I don't wanna live for nothing Silver was left a bit bewildered by Leo's sudden departure. As she watched his retreating form she wondered if she had said something wrong, a bit of nerves gripping her heart. She had thought that the two were getting on better terms but maybe that was her own mind playing tricks on her. Her gaze turned troubled and she remained standing there, wondering what she had done or said wrong. She hadn't heard the embarrassment in his voice, her anxieties still insisting that she had done wrong.
"I suppose I can try." She whispered to herself even though she was utterly alone. She turned away from where Leo had gone, making the long trudge back towards her den. Perhaps her day could get better with a nap, at least that's what she called curling up in the back of her den to avoid the world for a moment until the voice in her head shut up.

I don't wanna live for nothing For a moment Silver thought, as Leocadio had lifted his head, that he would be able to speak to the crane but as quickly as his head was up it was back down and his voice came out in such a way that it made Silver's own throat tighten and then...he was gone. The snowy dame stood there in shock, she hadn't expected him to run away, leaving her there. If he had snapped at her and stalked off she probably could have handled it better than she did now, stuck there in place.
"Leocadio..."She said softly, breath on a soft breeze as she stared after the direction he had gone. She was about to turn and go to her den or perhaps look for Wynd when the voice in her head snapped at her, asking if she was really going to abandon him when he ran off. Just because he came off stoic and gruff didn't mean he didn't feel and she, as the Anima, no as an empathetic creature, shouldn't just turn and leave him to be. All those soft traits her brother Onyx had ridiculed her for came to mind, making her jaw clench.
No.
She wasn't going to leave things be and run away from it all. The Anima shook out her fur, as if shaking off her anxieties, and darted after her momentary companion. She wasn't as agile as Leocadio, her frame crashing past the brush as she kept her head up, scanning for him, wondering if he was going to stop...when she finally spotted him and slowed to a stop.
"Leocadio..." His voice came from her again, but her voice wasn't as soft, raising enough for him to hear her as she approached, unsure of how he was going to react to her following him. "Is Iro alright?" She asked, wanting to skirt around what had just happened and finding their talk of the Tafa as good neutral ground...with the exception of certain cranes.

A million dreams are keeping me awake Briar nodded slowly, wondering how they could manage that. What if someone was born and there was no Tafa? It was all so fascinating and the curiosity was burning inside of her to know more. "Not knowing is like torture!" She said with a little whine, "I wish there was a way we could know...like...like someone gets picked from each pack and they swap places for like a season to learn and then they go back to their own pack and share what they know." She was spit balling and wishing for a perfect world where something like that could ever be possible.
Maybe this secrecy was something that the Au'Dar relied on to make themselves seem more intimidating, if so that was a clever idea. It was all such a wonder to her and her young mind.
"Oh I don't know about knowing best!" Briar laughed, shooting him a lopsided grin, "I'm still an apprentice, my mentor would know best...even though he yells at me for running outside of practice all the time." She snickered a little, she couldn't help it, she needed to burn off energy and she wanted to be the best hunter when it was her time to join the group. She wanted to be the best hunter ever, which mean she needed to do a lot of practice. "Wait," she stopped in her tracks, suddenly feeling nervous, "are you saying they could raid us like...right now?" Her gaze darted back and forth as if they were going to be accosted right at that moment. "What do we do if that happens?"

I was made to rise above it This whole interaction had thrown Timber for a loop as she fought back laughter that was threatening to spill over. She did her best to keep her expression at a neutral as her olive eyes followed after the muddy brute as he walked away from her. She could chase after him or she could stay in her place, letting him go. It was a crossroads she hadn't been ready for and still remained rooted in place. "Where are you going?" The words finally escaped from her maw as her feet worked into gear, catching up to him after a few lopes.
From their meeting she assumed that this man was a loner, perhaps a dispersal from another pack and wondered what his goals were, if he had any or how he was surviving out here on his own.

I was made to rise above it "You do have an image, a stinky one." Timber continued to tease, if he didn't want to hear her true thoughts she'd resign herself to making jokes to placate him. Maybe one day he'd see otherwise.
"Well if I've never seen you not covered in mud I guess I can't make a solid judgement." She shot back to him when he challenged her about knowing if he was ugly or not. "And if that's the case then how could I walk away?" She asked, tilting her head at the man before him, wondering what had happened to make him like this, everyone had their stories and whether she was going to learn about his or not could only be told by time.

Athena softened when he said they were family, glad to have Maxem included, he was like the brother that she sometimes found herself wishing she'd had growing up with. "Of course, it's just...hard to have to think about things like that." She said softly, looking over at Maxem then at Hawk. "I think doing something fun would be the best idea right now as well." She agreed, wanting a moment to forget what was hanging over their heads.
Maxem perked up a little, telling himself he needed to let this go and not worry. "Alright...fun, that doesn't include climbing trees." He said with a grin at Hawk, he wasn't sure what they were going to do but he knew that it would be worth it before Hawk had to leave.

I was made to rise above it Timber cocked an eyebrow as Jethro argued with her, she didn't find anything wrong with him speaking his mind, even though she didn't agree with him she could appreciate that he was ready to voice his thoughts. Her other eyebrow raised as he berated himself, wanting to leap into an argument but she kept her mouth shut. In her younger years she would have leapt down his throat, telling him how wrong he was and that kindness could be a learned trait and that he had more worth, but time and experience told her to be quiet and let him speak.
His experience told him all these things were true and she couldn't rush in and just change him, hell no one could be changed. In some cases only actions spoke louder than words and this seemed like one of those times. If she pushed him farther...she could already see him running away and she didn't want that to happen. She made a move to brush him again with the branch, leaning forward until his protest reached her ears.
For a moment she stood there, staring at him but then opened her mouth, dropping the branch between them. She didn't huff, as much as she wanted to, but instead bowed her head to him politely, "fine then ugly little runt man be covered in mud and smell like dead fish all you want. I suppose it adds to this image of yourself in your head." She told him before lifting her head, tone teasing as a smile pulled at her lips, "call yourself all you want and make your choices as I do. I don't see you as an ugly little runt...but I do see you as a stubborn man with a nauseating odor."

"Don't say that." Maxem's retort came only seconds after Hawk voiced his worry, jumping to the conclusion that this someone could be Hawk. He didn't want to lose his friend, that was clear, he didn't even want to think about that being an option and it was like if it was said out loud it would become true. He didn't care about the other wolves going on this quest, he didn't know them, didn't consider them family, they simply didn't matter. The only wolf whose return he'd wait for would be Hawks.
Athena shook her head, "just...be careful Hawk." She said softly, not wanting to play into this feeling, perhaps it was denial speaking but she refused to accept the idea of harm befalling her beloved and if anything did happen, as awful as it sounded, she hoped that if something bad did happen it would be to someone else and not the man she had given her heart to. Briefly she wondered who the Sanzin would bring, her stomach churning at the thought that her brother would be there...if he was she hoped Hawk would use his senses and avoid Ares.

I don't wanna live for nothing "And that's a fact." Silver laughed, hearing the tales of how other wolves had met their Tafa's was something the Anima loved to hear, each story more unique than the last...plus it amused her when others asked for her story and were left staring at her in shock when she explained how Wynd had acted upon their meeting. To her it showed how everyone could take different paths while making their way through life.
She tilted her head thoughtfully, "sometimes it will...I do believe that's why they say...choose your battles wisely? I think that applies to verbal ones as well." She said with a hint of a smile, about done with the serious conversation, feeling like that meant to be discussed had been done so...now all she had to do was hope that if Alesso, for some idiotic reason, did come back, Leocadio would think twice...and if not hopefully she'd be summoned in time-even if she didn't want to spill the blood of someone she had once taken pity on.
The second he had taken a step back Silver realized she may have done too much, even if she hadn't thought before reaching out to him she felt a brush of panic and readied herself for some kind of negative reaction. She wasn't sure what he would do but she knew she'd deserve it. Silver eyed him from the side, noting how Iro seemed to shake and Leocadio turned his head away but when he finally spoke she released the breath she didn't realize she had been holding. "They only know falsehoods." She replied softly, looking away as to not make things anymore awkward, "and paint themselves in a negative light."

I don't wanna live for nothing Silver remained quiet, contemplating what he said. Her own heart was wistful, full of wanderlust for the great unknown that often made her paws pull her to the borders of the territory in times where she was left free. It was dangerous, she knew that well but even the threat of being seen or encountering an enemy didn't sway her from her adventures when she pretended she was nothing more than a wolf exploring the land...something so simple that she knew in her heart she could never be.
She could only nod her head when he mentioned sealing off their borders. Silver understood the order, why it was in place, but still she thought of the freedom...and what their pack was missing out on from being so cut off. Surely things were happening beyond the forest that they could learn from. Was she truly the only one not driven crazy being stuck in this land with nowhere else to go? It's why the idea of expanding was so enchanting to her but she had to be realistic...knowing that such an idea would not be followed unless absolutely necessary. "We can only hope." She said softly, continuing to walk even with the sound of feathers, a normal sound in their land but when she glanced over, noting an absence of her commanders paws the stopped, looking back to see Leocadio frozen in place and his eyes mirror ice.
The silvery woman followed his stare, gaze landing on the Crane, her chest tightening as realization hit her. The Crane was elegant, even with her broken wing, head held high as she continued on with her life, a sigh that always left her in awe. Silver bowed her head to the bird before slowly turning and taking place at Leocadio's side in silence, unable to comprehend the pain that was working through him but could imagine enough that it made her heart sink and feel as if needles pricked it from every angle, sinking deeper with every apology he uttered.
"Leocadio," she finally spoke, voice soft, "if you are sorry...look into her eyes when you tell her that." It wasn't a reprimand, not even an order, she was gentle in the way she spoke to him, "but..." she trailed off with a little shake of her head, it wasn't her place to give her opinion.

It's all so close and yet so far With the way she drew herself up Zero was sure there was going to be a fight, his nails dug into the dirt with promise as he steadied his shoulders, staring back at her. He didn't speak as he stared at her, his brain working back to those training with his teacher, bringing up all the possibly moves he could use but the longer he stared at her the longer...nothing happened, all she did was ask another question.
"Yes," he lied to her, trying to keep his voice steady. He had been following his nose this entire time, trusting it to lead him the right way and so far he could tell it was with how angsty this girl was being about him getting past her.
He was ready to force his way past her, taking a few steps but when she didn't move to block him he continued, but did stare at her from the corner of his eye. "Shut up," he grumbled to her, "I don't need you bothering me anymore."

A million dreams are keeping me awake Any sense of her being too much for her companion went right over the young dames head. She was having a good time talking to someone new, such a good time that she almost forgot that her goal had been finding a place to run.
She did, however, notice the way that Ramir seemed to perk up, making her shift from paw to paw as her blood seemed to buzz in her veins. "Exactly!" She agreed with a nod, "I wonder how they find their tafas and how they take care of them too! Do you think they can talk to each other like we can?" She asked, the possibilities seemed almost endless but almost as soon as the excitement was in Ramir it disappeared, making her shoulders droop a little but she still remained optimistic. "Maybe some day they'll open up to us." She said, that would be amazing, to meet new wolves and learn about them!
"Vertok are the best," she agreed, returning his smile with one of her own. Sure she may have been biased but from the reputations of the other pack how could Vertok not be the best? They had the best land, the best leaders, and everyone got the chance to show what they were good at and some day she'd be able to do just the same once she became a true hunter. "It probably isn't easy, but the challenge would make it more fun! You'd have to learn how to zig zag through the trees and keep your eye on the prey," she said, already thinking about how she'd have to pivot and dip to miss the trees while at a high speed. That was challenge enough on its own but factor in chasing something like a deer or rabbit and it would be a real challenge that made her blood already start to pump.

I was made to rise above it Everything moved too quick, so quick she could hardly get a thought through her brain when a black mass came hurling at her, her only ability to respond was by her muscles tensing just before she hit the ground with a hard thud, the wind whooshing out of her lungs as stars dotted in and out of the corners of her vision as she gaped like a fish. She had no idea what was happening, waiting for some kind of painful blow but instead she felt the weight that had crushed into her lift away and her lungs were able to fill.
It took her longer than she had wanted but finally she was able to push herself to her feet, swinging her head as her lips pulled back to reveal her teeth, ready to fight or to at least give the offender a piece of her mind...until black fur filled her vision and a memory clenched her heart, sinking in its claws and holding on tightly as fear worked its way into her throat, trying to claw its way out but she kept her mouth shut.
Myax. He's come to finish the job.
Those were the first thoughts that came to her as she stared at the black pelted man with piercing yellow eyes that were so much like her ex mates but...as she stared at him, chest rising and falling quickly as memories tried to beat their way to the front of her mind. She did her best to fight them back, focusing on the man and the ways that he was not Myax, he was far too large and the scent was nothing like him and...Myax is dead, I found his body. A voice of clarity of cut through the memories and anxiety, bring her back to the present as she realized she had just been standing there...and so was he.
She managed to clear her throat, "what the hell was that for?"

I know I always come and go Maxem did not respond until he was almost high enough in the tree to be equal with the other brute, taking his time to test out the branch, pressing down at it with his paw to ensure it was sturdier than the last before settling on it and turning his attention back to Revan, a smile tugging his lips up.
Draconian, the was a word he wasn't familiar with that was for sure but it didn't seem like a positive word by the way he said it. He shrugged his shoulders in return, "I have my own identity, it's just not that...appreciated." He knew that wasn't that great of an explanation but it was as far as he wanted to go. Though he wasn't treated well the Vertok was still a place that allowed him a home.
His eyebrow raised as he was called puny, he couldn't deny that and besides it wasn't like he was wrong, he knew he was small in stature and could only do so much. "she probably did Romeo but obviously that doesn't stop me from climbing. Not everyone can get me when I'm up here and you seem cemented in place."

It's all so close and yet so far
Like his peer Zero was silent, jaw clenching together even after a dull ache set in. This was frustrating, he wanted to throw something, bit something, do something instead of just stand there as the adults talked over them as if they knew better. If it wasn't for them treating him and his friends like babies they would have been able to defend themselves! That's what his mind thought at least. The only thing that caught his attention from the rage building inside of him was smelling...then seeing Kai carried around like the baby that Zero loathed to be thought of.
Could he even consider Kai a friend? He had run away after all. Zero's thoughts were like a kaleidoscope but each color was an emotion that just made him feel even more confused but ultimately angry.
Without much of a choice Zero turned and followed after the Rook with the funny voice but, stole a glance over his shoulder at the woman with the face that looked bloody. Where someone would admire all he could think about was that one day he would be stronger than here and he'd show them all he wasn't meant to underestimated at any age. That day would be soon, he swore that to himself as he faced forward and walked back to the pack that he was starting to loathe. I was made to rise above it
After the lynx was gone things seemed to move fast. Timber remained steady and stoic as the two men sorted out the pups, her nose wrinkle just a bit at the clinging stench of urine but her heart softened. The poor boy must have been terrified and ran instead of facing down danger.
It caught her attention, considering how different choices were made in the face of the same obstacle and she couldn't say much to chide any of the pups. Of course facing down a lynx as a child was a foolish idea but she couldn't ignore how brave of a choice it had been either.
She was ready to find Cinders then continue on her way when a little voice cried out, making her ears perk as the feisty little pup called for her. "Cinders," she sighed, "I told you to stay put child, it's dangerous out here, whatever am I going to do with you?" she frowned at the little girl...at least she had come back with an adult instead of on her own, an act she wouldn't put past her but was still frustrating.
Timber shook her head, glancing at the man who had brought back the rust colored pup and had been followed by her charge. "Thank you for your help."
