I was made to rise above it The closer the days got to the fated journey of the dam to more Timber felt she needed to roam. She couldn't stay in one place too long, her mind racing and barking at her that she needed to do something but most of the guild stores had been refilled and she felt lost on what to do with the extra time. She dreaded these moments and how it left her mind to wander. No matter how hard she tried her thoughts always drifted back to her past and how her heart had once thrummed with joy and now it beat for the sake of just keep her blood pumping.
In an attempt to keep her head busy she traveled through the valley, acquainting herself with more of the land. If everything went right this could become the home for her guild and it would be in good faith to know the terrain. Her paws carried her along a trail that still held the scent of deer though she wasn't interested in hunting, but it would do well to now for the future. She kept her head down as she walked along the trail, ears pricked forward but she wasn't really listening for much, not thinking that there could be a possible danger out there for her. |

 DIRE SANGUIS Loner I AM A STONE, UNAFFECTED, RAIN HELL DOWN ONTO ME He missed clams. The lakes of his homeland had the biggest he had ever seen, and they had been a tasty and beneficial addition to the diet of the wolves of Fire Valley. Every now and again he had found some along his travels, but they would be so puny that he wouldn't even bother to break them open. It brought him to wonder if there was any to be had in this valley, but he doubted it, as finding sustainable water was a challenge in itself so far.
The rustling of footsteps through dry leaves broke Dire of his reverie. He turned with perked ears to focus in on the sound. The dark beast had parked himself along this game trail earlier that morning, having caught the scents of activity, and deciding to wait in ambush behind a girthy hazelnut shrub. It wasn't the best cover, granted, but hiding a mass like his own wasn't exactly easy, so it would have to do. And it seemed his patience would be rewarded - the noise was coming closer, nearly upon his bush already. Dire shifted his flank so that his powerful legs were tensed and ready to spring forth the same moment that a black nose of an ungulate came into view.
He launched himself forward, a snarl ripping from his opened maw with the surge of his heavy body, and within seconds he collided with his prey, slamming it hard to the ground with forelimbs pinning it down, his fangs just barely sinking into fur before the scent hit him - wolf.
The man sprung back the moment he realized his mistake. Stunned into silence, he loomed to the side, gazing down at the poor victim with his thick brow furrowed. He had learned to attack swiftly so that the prey wouldn't have a chance to flee but rarely had he attacked the wrong creature entirely. He wasn't sure what to think. A small pang of guilt touched him as he realized that he must have crushed the wolf and left them terrified. But should he even bother to apologize? They would likely scramble to their paws and bolt within seconds. And so he stood with his ears back and tail down, feeling awkward and confused. A strange demeanor for the monstrous man but, all he thought he could do was wait and let the wolf make the first move.

I was made to rise above it Everything moved too quick, so quick she could hardly get a thought through her brain when a black mass came hurling at her, her only ability to respond was by her muscles tensing just before she hit the ground with a hard thud, the wind whooshing out of her lungs as stars dotted in and out of the corners of her vision as she gaped like a fish. She had no idea what was happening, waiting for some kind of painful blow but instead she felt the weight that had crushed into her lift away and her lungs were able to fill.
It took her longer than she had wanted but finally she was able to push herself to her feet, swinging her head as her lips pulled back to reveal her teeth, ready to fight or to at least give the offender a piece of her mind...until black fur filled her vision and a memory clenched her heart, sinking in its claws and holding on tightly as fear worked its way into her throat, trying to claw its way out but she kept her mouth shut.
Myax. He's come to finish the job.
Those were the first thoughts that came to her as she stared at the black pelted man with piercing yellow eyes that were so much like her ex mates but...as she stared at him, chest rising and falling quickly as memories tried to beat their way to the front of her mind. She did her best to fight them back, focusing on the man and the ways that he was not Myax, he was far too large and the scent was nothing like him and...Myax is dead, I found his body. A voice of clarity of cut through the memories and anxiety, bring her back to the present as she realized she had just been standing there...and so was he.
She managed to clear her throat, "what the hell was that for?" |
