[googlefont=Maven Pro:400,700,900] louder than bombs i break The slowly ascending moon over the distant tree line cast a dull golden tint across the land, deepening the shadows and aiding Eden’s endeavor to remain hidden as she traipsed along. Her body felt heavy. Each step hurt. She found herself in the open plains, in a territory she was vaguely familiar with, but she was too tired to respect it at the moment. She was hoping she could make it to the tree line before collapsing from exhaustion but she still had a long way to go, and she knew her legs wouldn’t hold out much longer. So instead she changed courses towards a small, shimmering pool of water nestled in the thickets of bushes a closer distance away, intent on hunkering down and also utilizing what she could to cool off.
Approaching the miniature pond she walked in, wasting not a second as she began rolling in the mud threshold between the water and dry dirt. Mud baths, unlike open plains, were among Eden’s favorite things. They cooled her off, masked her scent, and helped her blend in — especially at night. Ensuring she coated almost every hair on her body she perched up, glancing around for security, before flopping back down onto her belly where the sludge could reach her skin the easiest. It was working, to her satisfaction, and her eyes lost hold of their characteristic edge as she simply melted away into the serenity of the darkness, given only a sliver of yellowish light by the moon. Nearby the crickets and frogs sang, providing her a calming soundtrack to lull off to. She deeply hoped she would not be bothered by a pack wolf but she also knew the idea was naive. Regardless, she did not much care.

[nospaces] [attr="class","letgo"] [attr="class","text"] [attr="class","scroll"] Storm-grey eyes blinked open to greet the shadowed night. Little Helva slept curled into a ball. All of her pieces tucked tightly in place. Something had awoken the ash-speckled pup from her gentle slumber. Forgotten dreams of another life. A fervent wish for the impossible. Raising her scruffy head to peer out at the gloom. The moon reached across a starry sky, a mirror to her own coat. Stretching, she yawned. The night was yet young. It was the time for little pups to sleep and regain their energy for another day's adventures. But Helva had other plans. [break][break] Throwing a cursory glance around, she trotted casually past the other sleeping zeroes. She didn't know if any patrols ran at this time of night, but she didn't suspect they did. Pushing through the undergrowth, she exited the den of the zeroes and entered the main den site. Adult wolves lounged in various areas. A few still remained awake at this hour, but cared little to pay attention to the wanderings of a small pup. The snowy zero peered across the river that separated the main dens from that of the highest ranked wolves: the Suit and her Aces. Her parents rested in that unreachable place. She wondered briefly if she might someday reach that place. Helva shook her head roughly, banishing the thoughts from her mind. To do that meant to become Ace or Suit. It would be treason. [break][break] Turning around, she trotted out of the dens into the greater territory. Breaking through the tree line, she studied the glistening, yellow moon handing in the sky. A faint smile graced her features. It was a fine night to stroll the Sanzin' vast plains. Studying the plains, a faint glint caught her interests. As she neared, it became clear what the source was. The moon's light reflected off the surface of a small pool of water. A surprising find, but a welcome one. [break][break] Helva's advance slowed as she neared, stopping altogether when she arrived. The grey-eyed one thought herself alone, but was soon proved wrong in her assumption. A shadowy figure formed out of the still night. Small and, surprisingly, covered in mud. A foreigner and an unknown. Helva was loath to approach the other party. She hadn't come out here for trouble. By all appearances, the figure was asleep, she could leave now and pretend she never saw them. But she'd come all this way, it would be a waste to leave now. Studying the shadow, they didn't look like much of a threat. As long as things didn't dissolve into a fight, she didn't mind the company. "Who are you?" she called into the night, breaking the steady silence, "What are you doing here?"

[googlefont=Maven Pro:400,700,900] [attr="class","edentablebombsquote1"]louder than bombs [attr="class","edentablebombsquote2"]i break [attr="class","edentablebombstan"] Cheshire[attr="class","edentablebombstext"]Big ears flicked but there was only silence filled by the summer night chorus. Eden tensed for a moment but relaxed right after, melting into the cool mud that clung to her fur like a cold heavy blanket. They flicked again, and again, and by the fourth time, the young girl’s head finally perked up out of annoyance, only for her body to seize upon seeing a pale shadowy silhouette standing not far from where she lay. She immediately wanted to respond with anger but paused before any words could slip out. It wasn’t like she had anybody else to blame for her choosing to rest here, in occupied territory, and this figure was likely a pack member. Small teeth clenched as irked eyes watched them intensely. They were quite small. Another pup? The dim light made it difficult to distinguish.
A voice came, asking Eden who she was and why she was there. She could only respond with silence, at least before a deep and irritated sigh left her mouth. “Are you blind?!” Admittedly it came out a little more forceful than intended, it even caught her off guard for a split second, but she wasn’t so willing to stutter easily in the presence of this newcomer. “I-I’m—” Words got caught in her throat due to the welling of anxiety that pooled in her stomach, causing her to tense again, as her skin heated up. But she cleared her throat in an attempt to play her nerves off. “I’m s-s-sleeping.” Her skin burned hotter. So much for suppressing the stutter, but Eden huffed. “Well, trying.” A pointed jab at the curious newcomer.
“‘M not… leaving.” She would make that perfectly clear. “Tattle i-if you… you want. ‘M not worth the effort.” Her chin involuntarily lowered back down, resting on the cool sturdy surface of the mud. “Just wanna ssssleep.” |

[nospaces] [attr="class","letgo"] [attr="class","text"] [attr="class","scroll"] Irritation. Annoyance. Neither emotions were unfamiliar. Everything was always a little tense in the Sanzin. When infighting and insults were commonplace, one developed a thick skin. Helva's expression was unaffected by the forceful jibe. If this rascal wanted to get a rise out of her, they'd need to try harder than that. Settling in place, she waited for the interloper to answer her. It wasn't entirely unexpected if they didn't. Helva was used to the uncooperative. [break][break] The snowy Sanzin was unmoved by the needles coming off the other wolf. They had answered half of her questions at least. Why they would chose to sleep in the territory of the most violent pack in the lands though, that was a mystery. If they didn't know, that was a different case. She didn't think anyone who knew of the Sanzin' reputation would willingly chose to bed here. "Alright," she said, "I won't tell." Good luck to them if someone less accommodating finds them. [break][break] Whoever this was did have some courage or maybe recklessness with how comfortable they were making themselves. "But," she added, "Only if you tell me who you are." There'd been a rather large number of uninvited guests recently. All of them young. She couldn't help but wonder if they were all connected somehow. A bunch of unwanted pups with no one to watch or care for them. Here she was thinking only the Sanzin were so cold.

[googlefont=Maven Pro:400,700,900] [attr="class","edentablebombsquote1"]louder than bombs [attr="class","edentablebombsquote2"]i break [attr="class","edentablebombstan"] Cheshire[attr="class","edentablebombstext"]The snowy stranger said she wouldn’t tell, at which the Magnum stared blankly, her suspicion palpable. Yeah right, she thought grimly, scruffy silver brows narrowing as she continued speaking. She was fully expecting her to run off and tell her superiors about Eden’s presence in the territory. Her lips pursed at the thought. But, she would deal with that when the time came. In the meantime, it was just her and this persistent girl, who was clearly much younger than Eden, but, in all likelihood, stronger. Strong enough that she could probably deal with Eden, herself if she so wanted. It was not like the Magnum had a size advantage.
The scent that clung to her pale fur reminded her of someone she met not long ago, on a beach. Another young unorthodox girl, who was a lot touchier than the one that stood before her. Eden squinted, her lip quivering as small canines peeked from under white lips. Were all of these pack pups weird? It was a hypocritical thought.
Perhaps giving the girl what she wanted would make her leave Eden alone. She could only hope. However, she was reluctant to give her name. She felt no obligation to. Then again, she was a member of the Mercurior. Technically, she had a right to be in claimed territory. But a contract meant nothing to a wolf who would not uphold it. Would this pup even know about the contract? Or even who they were? She decided it was worth the chance.
“Eden.” She paused to take in a breath. “Of the Mercurior guild.” Her voice was slightly mumbled as her chin remained on the ground. She felt glued to it, suctioned down by the mud, and had no more of a will to move. To prove her point, though, her shoulder rolled, parting the long fur that draped over it to reveal the red lines of the Mercurior insignia. All the while, dark honey eyes remained fixed on the stranger, as if daring her to do or say something off. |

[nospaces] [attr="class","letgo"] [attr="class","text"] [attr="class","scroll"] This mud-slathered pup didn't appear to believe Helva's words. Well, it didn't change anything if they didn't. Ironically, even if Helva was lying and did seek out the pack's adults, she doubted they would actually do anything. It was all for one in the Sanzin. The adults couldn't be trusted. [break][break] Eden stated their name and affiliation. Unfortunately for them, they were only met with a quizzical look and a tilt of the head. The reveal of the red mark meant nothing to Helva as well. She only peered at it with a blank expression. The fact that this foreigner had shown it to her meant it was important in some way, but the speckled Sanzin had no idea why. "Mercurior?" she echoed, "Who are they?" [break][break] Helva was only aware of the Sanzin, Vertok, and Au'Dar. As far as she knew, they were the only packs in the valley. Had a new pack been formed? Would they be taking the neutral lands? Surely not. The adults may have been selfish and unreliable, but they weren't going to allow invaders into their lands. She turned a suspicious stare on the other pup. Maybe they were actually dangerous and she should report them.
