[googlefont="Shadows Into Light"][googlefont="Catamaran"] I AM YOUR PRIDE, I AM YOUR WAR Burning yellow eyes stared down the advancing beast, feeling that if they blinked, the monster would be gone - or rather, he would be gone, a victim to the stalking predator. Sitting frozen, it was as if his mind was blank, racing through each thought. What would he do? What would the boys do? What would this creature do? Would it attack? Would he-- "Ouff!!
A body impacted him with enough force to send them both tumbling to the side, away from the lynx. At first, only one emotion crossed Shepherd's face - anger. Who dare?! But as his legs were untangled from those of slender silver, he knew it was Zero, who now stood up tall against the ominous beast that still lingered. Zero had actually...saved him? But what about Kai? Was he safe? laying on his side, the scruffy boy quickly cast about for his smaller, helpless brother. He didn't see him! Not until a rustling of bushes caught his attention, and he barely saw that ginger tail disappearing into the underbrush. It was for that moment that Shepherd forgot about the monster and Zero, everything but Kai - Malakai.
That...coward! Had he really so eagerly abandoned his best friends, leaving them behind to save his own tail?! Even with all the teasing and minor bullying...he and Zero would have stood up for him, Shepherd knew they would, and yet this is how they're treated? Being left for dead? Did Malakai not care, or was he too weak to even think of being brave? Thoughts of betrayal burned through Shepherd like wildfire, fueling him. And what else fueled him was the courageous, the strong, the handsome boy who stood between him and the savage beast. Zero hadn't run, no, he had flung himself into danger's way to save him! Still, he stood ready to defend his friend, unlike that bastard Kai. Shepherd looked up to Zero with wonder, suddenly forgetting how girly he looked. Now, he was inspiring!
A wild grin spread across the fiery pup's face as he rose to his paws, bounding to stand next to his true friend's side. I won't tuck tail and run," He declared to Zero. He was more eager for a fight than he ever was to run. The cat advanced, elongated growls coming from between long feline fangs, it was ready, and so was he!
Foolishly Shepherd leaped to the side, circling the stocky creature as it moved in on Zero. Oh no, it wouldn't! Just as Zero had saved him, Shepherd would protect him! The boy dived in, his teeth sinking in around the cat's hind leg. Too weak to damage it, but plenty pokey to distract it. He tugged, snarling boyishly as he tried pulling it from his friend. He didn't quite realize how agile these things were, though, as a sharply clawed paw swatted by him, close enough to just barely tug his tangled fur as the monster turned on him, yowling. Shepherd released its ankle with a quick leap back, his short legs tensed and ready to bolt - but it never came, as a silver knife cut towards the beast in a blur, nipping and catching its attention once more. Zero managed to bolt back from any attacks, but the creature was focused on him now. No!!
Before Shepherd could even move in, a much larger, reddish-furred beast hurtled in front of the monster with a canine growl. a wolf! An adult one at that. He never would have believed it, but Shepherd was actually glad to see one at the moment. Now they definitely had an advantage! The boy was ready to strike alongside his friend and this new stranger, his lips pulled back to release a snarl - a snarl that sounded more guttural and threatening than he had expected. Was he growing into his voice? No, it was another wolf coming behind him in a calm stride, startling Shepherd out of the way. He didn't know this one, either, and with teeth still bared, glanced over to his heroic friend. How was it that some strangers would come to the rescue, but their own brother left them for dead?

Help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever It was a slow thing, Cinders life as of late, which was ironic since to most pups her life would be seen as incredibly busy. She and ma-Timber were traveeling to meet others and gather resources for the Not-a-pack guild she ran. But when she woke up hungry, Timber was usually just returning with food, and while water was scarce to nonexistent if it could be found it would be. Cinders knew that all of that was simply what most pups expected, but she had been so long on her own, and to relearn what it was like to be able to trust someone to care for you.....some jaded part of her soul began to soften.
Timbers work would not go unrewarded, Cinders would need time of course, but she had vowed to become the best future guild member ever in return!
Not that it was hard, as Timbers expectations seemed to lump her in with every other pup ever, like stopping every few hours to rest even when she tried to insist she could keep going just fine or at least climb up on the elder wolfs back! But before she could open her mouth to complain about the inevitable, Timber had gotten serious and said for Cinders to stay and hide while she went off, and while she was certainly going to argue that Timber was off before she could even do anything but whine after her.
She was just debating some rebellion, to run off after her secret mother figure and help, when a scent hit her nose that she had strangely never forgotten. It wasn't the blood, or even the scent of strange wolves, for oddly enough those were normal given her past - it was the single familliar scent among them that wasn't Timber.
Kai
Cinders had never forgotten him after their initial meeting, and indeed she wanted to see him again, and knowing how he tended to be the thought he might be alone amongst obvious danger immediately pushed any thoughts of Timbers seriousness from her mind as she followed his scent like she'd never followed any other in her life. Soon she was following his voice as the scent grew stronger, and then she could see him from where she emerged from the woods, but she knew without even trying to prompt him that he couldn't see her. Because she supposed this is what she must have looked like, having just managed to escape with her life from the pack that killed her family, and she supposed that was just as well because she knew exactly what he needed.
"Mother has gone to rescue them Kai, and meanwhile i'm here to protect you from anything bad, I will personally put myself between you and anything that dares to come out of those woods okay?" she wasn't really expecting a response, given his state she wasn't sure he was capable of that, instead she approached him gingerly and with gentle nudges to bring his legs in and tuck him against the nearest rock she took the other side and front bu laying against him and angling her head to rest atop his own.
"I promise, no matter what happens, I won't let them take you," Everybody wants to rule the world

His body was completely frozen in place, a permanent look of fear plastered across his face. It was as though every muscle in his body had been coated in ice, the only signs of life the consistent shaking. Wide silver eyes stared into the forest where he had come from and the strange wolf from before had disappeared into. He heard nothing, saw nothing.
What was he supposed to do? Would it have been right for him to stay? Was it right that he had ran? He had only done what instinct told him to do, what was the safest. He was a pup, he had no reason to think that he could truly face a beast like that, with or without his brothers by his side. Surely they knew that too, even behind all the bravery and fearlessness they put on? They were just pups…..against a monstrous cat with a muzzle coated in blood and adrenaline fresh in its veins from a hunt….what chance did they stand?
A small corner of his mind registered the sound of rapid footsteps to his side, but his body did not, nor did his nose. It was as though everything he heard was distant. He could hear a voice, a familiar one, but he didn’t understand what they were saying. All he could hear and see were flashes in his own mind.
Flashes of blood. Of bone. Of a contorted body. Of Shep dangling a piece of meat in the air. Of a large and looming shadow appearing before him. Of an open maw full of sharp fangs dripping with crimson droplets. Of branches smacking against his sides as he ran. And the snarling…..
Suddenly he felt gentle nudges against his legs and side, and at first nothing happened, his body completely rigid. And when his muscles did cave, they tumbled, crumbling beneath him. His legs hit the ground with a thud, but his eyes still trained forward. He could feel movement, he could still hear a voice, he even felt a gentle pressure press down on top of his head. But he didn’t feel like….he could feel them. It didn’t make sense, but his mind was not there to consider it.
Multiple things scattered through his mind. But, slowly, there was one image that appeared in his mind and it stayed: Zero and Shep, looking on at him in distaste, and turning their backs on him.
Tears began to well up in his eyes, his mouth just barely opening to reveal clenched teeth. His body taking in a tiny bit of life, he grew smaller, curling in on himself, and turning his head to bury his face into the fur of whoever was by his side. He still didn’t know who it was, who they were, where they came from, when they got there. But, right now, it didn’t matter. They were not the monster he had run from, and that was all that counted.
"Speaking." Thinking.

[nospaces][googlefont=Cardo:400,700|Quicksand:500,700] [attr="class","danteheader"]dante [attr="class","dantesubheader"]each night you hear the drums of war [attr="class","dantebodyscroll"]It was all a blur for the red and gold male to focus too clearly on one moment. The adrenaline of the situation switched his body to autopilot as he now stood as a barrier between the lynx and the pups, the rustling from around him closing in. He never flinched, his eyes like sharp lasers that held the fierce, hungry gaze of the feline. The scent of another wolf filled his senses and for a moment it didn’t register, but the snarl they released did. Before he could blink the figure the snarl belonged to emerged from behind the lynx. Dante couldn’t be certain but it appeared as though she was also pitching in to help, at least that’s the explanation his mind conjured. It would suffice as an answer as the flailing of the fiery pups drew his eyes away momentarily. The image of the ginger pup from earlier flashed through his mind, his own hackles rising at the notion that he had left him there.[break][break] Glancing towards the woman who had just entered the scene, Dante locked eyes with her. He noted the scars splayed on her muzzle but couldn’t focus too hard on them right away. He sent her a knowing, urgent look, one that implied he still had business to attend to. Without missing another beat he turned on his heel and bolted off towards whence he came. It was muscle memory, and before long the familiar edge of the forest came into view, along with the silhouette of the broken pup. And… another he didn’t recognize. Upon closer inspection, it was a young female pup nestled closely to the frightened one, seemingly in comfort. Dante immediately assumed they knew each other, which would hopefully make these next steps easier.[break][break] Dante approached carefully but swiftly, signaling early that he was coming. “Hey,” he whispered softly, his brow knitted with both concern and urgency. His head was at eye level; he knew that careless actions or words fueled by the underlying adrenaline would only deal more damage, so he tempered himself as best he could. “I’m here to help. Another adult is with his friends. The lynx is under control.” He was mostly focused on the young girl, his eyes pleading with her in hopes that she would allow him to get close to the ginger boy underneath. But he had a feeling she would understand the gist of what happened, and after a moment she reluctantly stepped aside, much to Dante’s internal relief. He saw the hesitation cross her face which only ignited his soul more. “We’ll protect him. I promise you.”[break][break] Ignoring the stench of urine that filled his head the male skillfully picked the boy up by his scruff, pausing to cast a glance to the girl. He had a feeling she would want to tag along so as he began off on the path he came, he fought every instinct to run with haste, so that she could keep up. He wasn’t walking, but going just fast enough that they would cover ground relatively quickly. They were going to be alright.[attr="class","dantetan"] Burn @euphie [break]Permission to powerplay Cinders granted <3 [attr="class","dantefooter"]awaken, awaken |

CALAVERAS Calaveras jogged along at a swinging pace, following his frequent patrol path, pausing at all the usual places to mark before continuing on up the slopes and down the ravines of the mountainous territory. Keeping an eye out for prey; watching for tracks, flattened patches of grass, snipped foilage, anything. But, with the worsening drought, the tracker's keen whiskey eyes picked up signs few and far between. Not good for the pack, he thought. To keep himself useful, he had taken to marking around the territory every other day on his trips to monitor the prey - or, lack thereof - and had grown more concerned each time. Should he inform the King and Queen? Was it his place? He had only been in the Vertok for so long, after all, and the southern man wondered if the mediocre changes were worth it, especially to the time of a king and queen, such ranks he certainly wasn't used to.
He paused by a stump to mark but instantly paused. Even amidst his thoughts, he noticed something was off - the birds had gone completely silent. Why? Surely he wasn't seen as a threat, and surely they weren't beginning to leave as well? He could have sworn he had been hearing them all day. Like a deer being hunted by a predator, Calaveras raised his head, dark ears perked and listening intently. He took in a big sniff, but the wind was to his back; only a gentle breeze tickling his askewed nape. Was that leaves rustling ahead? Then, a sudden and ferocious snarl that nearly had him jumping out of his pelt. Shit, there must be a fight in the territory. He recovered in seconds and, without a second thought, the rook lunged into action. Sturdy legs carried him to the disturbance, weaving through trees and ducking under branches until he came upon the source. Not wanting to jump straight into a fight, he slowed to a walk, glancing from just behind a young tree. Over torn leaves and dirt stood an earthy female and two Vertok pups that he recognized only from mere passing. Zero and...Shepherd? Yes, that little hellion that he heard some other wolves complain about before. Didn't they usually hang around another young boy, he thought? Fur was bristled and the small spot in the woods felt tense, but unbeknownst to Calaveras, the danger was already gone. He didn't want to assume the worst, but...
"Pardon!" The brown-hued man called out, walking out to approach them. His head raised slightly, but his posture held calm and his expression neutral, if not curious. With a nod of his head in greeting, he spoke to the woman. "These two 'ere I know from my pack, but I don't recognize you," He stepped ahead of the silver and charcoal pups, putting himself in front of them just in case. As if asking if they were alright, whiskey gold eyes glanced down at the two children, before returning to the stranger. He became aware of the scents accompanying the area; the pups, maybe another wolf? He quickly wondered if this woman was a part of another pack before he focused on the scent of another predator - a lynx. The man was good at reading the forest around him, an essential skill for hunters, and between the scents and stirred-up dirt, he thought he may understand, but awaited confirmation from the strangely marked woman nonetheless.
-
Beside Calaveras the charcoal and orange pup circled to stand by his silver buddy's side, his young face scrunched up in an odd mixture of anger, confusion, and determination. The other strange wolf had run off to the Divines know where, and frankly, Shepherd didn't quite care where. The lynx had run off (he didn't care about chasing after it, either, for as far as he was concerned he had done a considerably job at protecting his friend), the mildly scary woman had stayed behind, and now there was yet another adult, but this time one he faintly recognized; just one of the pack's stinky rooks. While he felt somewhat better knowing one of the Vertok adults was here now, the boy remained silent as the hunter spoke to the female, Shepherd's yellow eyes squinting as he glanced down at them, as if they were some helpless children! As the man's attention went back to the stranger, Shepherd's own went to the boy at his side. he cocked his head to the side - punctured ear sagging slightly - to see if Zero was just as offended by this as he was. Or, if he knew what was going on at all, really. |

I was made to rise above it Everyone Everything had seemed to happen so fast. One moment the air was full of rushed panic as the dame braced for a fight. She didn’t anticipate the lynx trying to face off but you never knew, assuming you knew what would happen was something that paved the way for destruction. One moment she was ready to rip the cat limb from limb for trying to steal the lives from the unknowing pups, pups that, for a moment distracted her. For the briefest of moments, the lines of reality blurred, instead of a silvery boy and one that seemed made of flame she saw her own children who had never had the chance to reach this age and she felt her heart shudder.
The scene stayed before her olive eyes for seconds that felt like years until like a rubber band pulled too tight reality snapped into her, reminding her why she was there in the first place and she turned the lynx that returned her gaze with a stern one of it’s own but something flashed behind its eyes and Timber knew this little beast wasn’t going to put up much of a fight, even after the male from before had excused himself and left to god knows where.
Timbers lips peeled back in a snarl that started deep in her chest and ripped through her throat, seeming to fill the clearing. As she growled she took strong, deliberate steps towards the feline that seemed to shrink under her stature. “Leave!” Her voice was deep, commanding, her body was braced to leap forward. The lynx stared back at her, leaning back with ears falling flat but with a low growl it turned, leaping into the brush, crashing through to make its escape but even with it gone Timber kept her gaze on the spot where it had disappeared until the crashing sounds became faint echoes and once she was sure it wasn’t coming back she turned to the pups, about to speak when another male called out to her, claiming the pups as those from his pack.
She looked at the man with suspicion, she didn’t respond for a moment as she collected herself, adrenaline slowly leaving her system.
“My name is Timber, I came to meet with your King and Queen when I heard the commotion and found these two with a lynx,” she explained then looked at the pups again, “are you okay boys?”
It's all so close and yet so far
Zero hardly noticed Shep come to his side, still dumb struck by everything he had just witnessed. Had he really tried to face and lynx like he actually stood a chance? As he stared a the grown wolves around them, eyes glued to the scarred female he realized how puny and weak he was, if it wasn’t for them he and Shep would have been lynx chow. Instead of being thankful hot rage licked up the back of his neck, his limbs stiffening under him. How could he be so stupid! There was no way he was going to be able to do anything, he was a weakling! His growls sounded nothing like the protective dames and his stature was nothing like hers. She was the embodiment of strength, a warrior, and God it made him want to turn tale and run to his teacher for more training.
The longer he stood there the angrier he got, especially when someone from their pack waltzed in like he could make a difference, his mouth turning down at the corners as he stared at Calavera’s with a steely gaze. Zero glanced over at Shep, his face pulled tight with annoyance. He didn’t even look at their so called rescuer when she asked if they were okay. “We’re fine.” He snipped at her, toes flexing and nails digging into the dirt, turning his head to look at Calaveras in front of them, jaw clenching as he imagined chomping into his ankle to make him go away and realize he wasn't wanted.

Help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever "I promise, no matter what happens, I won't let them take you,"
It was a sacred vow dammit, she'd make it in blood, later when Kai wasn't so catatonic as to be unable to hear her. It was clear now he was beyond sense, and that was okay, because Cinders had never felt so aware since the day her family was killed and she'd be damned if she let that story repeat. Kai would live on, to be mocked relentlessly by her for pissing himself over this incident, and one day this would all be but a memory because Cinders had decided this was not the end. It was a big vow for such a tiny creature, but it was not the first time she had done something far beyond her age group, and by god it would not be the last.
"You and me against the world Kai," she murmured softly, entirely serious, as he nuzzled closer to her and she accommodated the movement, doing her best to completely surround him with her tiny body. If she wasn't so strung out on protective instinct, the coziness of a good cuddle like this would have her napping, and in the back of her mind some of that desire to never be close to others again weakened and crumbled at this tender reminder of what it was like to have another so warm and soft around her.
Unfortunately duty calls....
Another male, bigger and stronger, came crawling out of the brush and what little ease had entered Cinders rigid frame drained out just as quick. She was not so naive as to think she could win this fight, but she would buy Kai time, fufill her promise to keep him safe and let him live on to be embarrassed by this....even if someone else would have to make him so. A sad thought, because she was extremely fond of him for how little she knew him, but a promise was a promise.
"He's fine, i'm protecting him, against the entire damn world if need be!" she snapped, traitorous tears springing to her eyes as she considered her poor charge, because for the first time in her entire life someone needed her and she would not disappoint. But her rational mind won out, that this adult knew better, and that the best thing for Kai's recovery would be for him to get back to his friends. So she relented, if barely, not truly parting from Kai ever but giving the adult space to approach while also still preparing for a betrayal.
None came though, Kai was carried and she followed, and nothing bad happened despite how she anxiously glanced all around as if it would suddenly fall apart. She hadn't known her long, but seeing Timber came with a crush of relief so strong she wanted to cry, and while she didn't dare leave Kai to approach her the words rushed out too fast for her to stop them.
"Mama!" Everybody wants to rule the world

He wasn’t going as fast as he could have been given the urgency of the situation, or the adrenaline he felt, but he didn’t want to leave her behind. It was evident to him how much the girl cared for the boy he carried. She was willing to stand up to Dante as he approached them. He was unable to smile at the time, too engrossed in safely picking up the ginger boy, to offer her one for her efforts.[break][break] The trio traveled for a short distance until the somewhat familiar scents returned to his nose and he slowed down. The young girl shouted to the older woman who had joined him in fending off the lynx. They entered the clearing where the others gathered. A new wolf joined the scene, an earthen man. He carried the same scent as the boy and he felt a wave of relief crash into him. Dante carefully set the pup down near the man’s paws, holding onto his scruff for a moment longer so that the boy wouldn’t immediately fall over, and leaving the girl enough space in case she wanted to return to his side.[break][break] Stepping back, Dante chuckled, catching his breath. “Are they with you?” He gestured to the boys nearby. His eyes lingered on them. “They’ve got guts, that’s for sure.” Although, there was a fine line between bravery and foolishness. Dante knew that well. At least, he could appreciate it. But if he or the woman hadn’t intervened when they had, he was certain the ginger boy would have lost a friend or two. It confused him. The boy ran, but those two stayed behind. Why was that? Did they tell him to? Or was he the first to run? He looked down at him again, his eyes softening at his stricken state now that he could get a better look at him. The man in front of him, he could also get a better look at. He was scruffy but there was a kindness in his eyes that eased his nerves a little. He smiled, “I assume he’ll be in good hands?”[attr="class","dantetan"] Burn[attr="class","dantefooter"]awaken, awaken |

CALAVERAS The Rook took the moment of hesitation as an opportunity to look the woman over, with the first thought coming to mind being impressive. Taller than him by a couple of inches at least with perhaps the same amount of bulk, but with red paints highlighting the scars that mangled what would otherwise be fine features. Calaveras hadn't seen many decorations like this before in his time, so he figured it safe to assume that this was a woman of power. No wonder the threat had been thwarted so easily, really. And then she spoke, introducing herself and stating her business. "Ah' see," he drawled. "In that case, yer welcome 'ere." By his standards, anyways. From what he knew, the Vertok were very accepting of strangers, and he saw no need to turn Timber away, especially not after she had just saved two of the pack's own members.
Before he could continue another wolf made themselves present, assumedly the one he had smelled briefly. This time it was a young man, cutting a handsome figure and a capable build, bigger than him if just by a margin. But what really caught his eye was the poor, dampened mess of rusty fur that the man carried in his mouth, and the slightly smaller (and dryer) ball of grey fur trotting at his side. That particular ball of fur shouted to the woman he'd been talking to, calling her mama (which Calaveras didn't exactly understand. Why would she bring her child on a business trip into pack lands? But, the kid did look quite young, so he reckoned that was all he needed to know). The earthen man watched as the new stranger set down the familiar pup close to his paws, taking honorable care to keep the little one upright. A scruffy brow creased with worry as Calaveras reached out a paw to stabilize him, placing calloused pads gently against his back. The poor thing couldn't even stand upright and didn't seem to realize where he was or what was happening. What could he have possibly seen? Was the attack that bad?
"Hmm..." Calaveras hummed, more to his own thoughts than anyone else. But he quickly came to, raising warm eyes to the fiery fellow. "'Pears they've fallen under mah responsibility fer now," He answered, giving a quick and scornful glance to the silver pup at his terse response. Prickly little fucks, reminded Cal of the small cacti that would grow in the prairies he was from. But they weren't his kids, and it wasn't his place to discipline them, so he settled for offering Timber an apologetic look before he turned back to the other male. "O' course. Ah'm a Rook - a hunter - of the Vertok, Ah'll take 'em home." he'd make sure the frightened pup would get home swiftly and safely, that was certain. He paused a moment as he held the man's gaze. "Thank yer, really. If 'Ah could help make up fer yer troubles, 'Ah'd be happy to. Dinner in the unclaimed lands, per'aps." He offered, alongside a kind smile that creased his eyes. He assumed that he and Timber were together, so he would ask for names at another time. He then turned to the woman herself. "An' I hope to thank yer by escortin' you to our King an' Queen. Yer pup is welcome, too."
With a last nod of thanks to the orange and yellow stranger, he bent to scoop the dazed child up with gentle jaws, his nose wrinkling only briefly as a rather unpleasant smell hit his nostrils. Poor lad indeed. He turned with a flick of his tail and a hard gaze at the two other boys; a silent command for them to get their butts moving.
-----
Shepherd had absolutely nothing to say to any of these wolves. No thanks or confirmation of his safety to the woman or the male, and no recognition of Calaveras's presence. His blazing yellow eyes may have widened slightly when he caught sight of Malakai, and in a strange state, he'd never seen his friend in before. But, then the boy reminded himself that friends didn't abandon you, so at the moment he wasn't sure if he could even call Kai that now. The livid disposition of his real friend flew right over Shepherd's head, covered by his own, much more important and infernal thoughts. Stupid lynx. Stupid Kai. Stupid adults! And he was no doubt going to be chewed out when he got home and his parents saw his ear. he considered stealing something from the herbalist's den, but let's be honest, he wouldn't know what to do with anything there, and he didn't think his mom would believe his sudden new interest in flower crowns. Hmph.
The annoying Rook turning was what brought the boy from his thoughts, and it didn't take much for him to stand and skulk along the trail back to the Vertok dens. Stupid Vertok. Shepherd thought he was ready to leave now more than ever - he didn't care how young he was or how "dangerous" everyone said it was. He thought he faced off against that beast pretty well, after all! He could totally hold his own. At least for a little while until he thought he could tolerate looking at another Vertok again. Right now, he wasn't so sure he could for much longer. |

It's all so close and yet so far
Like his peer Zero was silent, jaw clenching together even after a dull ache set in. This was frustrating, he wanted to throw something, bit something, do something instead of just stand there as the adults talked over them as if they knew better. If it wasn't for them treating him and his friends like babies they would have been able to defend themselves! That's what his mind thought at least. The only thing that caught his attention from the rage building inside of him was smelling...then seeing Kai carried around like the baby that Zero loathed to be thought of.
Could he even consider Kai a friend? He had run away after all. Zero's thoughts were like a kaleidoscope but each color was an emotion that just made him feel even more confused but ultimately angry.
Without much of a choice Zero turned and followed after the Rook with the funny voice but, stole a glance over his shoulder at the woman with the face that looked bloody. Where someone would admire all he could think about was that one day he would be stronger than here and he'd show them all he wasn't meant to underestimated at any age. That day would be soon, he swore that to himself as he faced forward and walked back to the pack that he was starting to loathe. I was made to rise above it
After the lynx was gone things seemed to move fast. Timber remained steady and stoic as the two men sorted out the pups, her nose wrinkle just a bit at the clinging stench of urine but her heart softened. The poor boy must have been terrified and ran instead of facing down danger.
It caught her attention, considering how different choices were made in the face of the same obstacle and she couldn't say much to chide any of the pups. Of course facing down a lynx as a child was a foolish idea but she couldn't ignore how brave of a choice it had been either.
She was ready to find Cinders then continue on her way when a little voice cried out, making her ears perk as the feisty little pup called for her. "Cinders," she sighed, "I told you to stay put child, it's dangerous out here, whatever am I going to do with you?" she frowned at the little girl...at least she had come back with an adult instead of on her own, an act she wouldn't put past her but was still frustrating.
Timber shook her head, glancing at the man who had brought back the rust colored pup and had been followed by her charge. "Thank you for your help."
