E r i s Summer - or nearly summer, Eris had long ago lost track. She thought the word with a weak sneer, dark face tilted up to where the sun peeked through the canopy overhead, dry leaves rattling and clinging to their branches while the season still permitted. Was it always this... unsurvivable?
She was a stranger here, and everywhere else for that matter, but even so Eris would have never guessed it would be so hard to find a damned drink outside of her homeland during these hotter months. She glanced around at the surrounding forest, her thoughts drawn back to when she had first entered it a few days prior. Wariness had struck her at the mere size of it, and her tall silhouette had lingered at the border for what felt like hours, grappling with the idea of being so enclosed. But with the heat beating down on her smoke-colored back, warming her far past the threshold of comfort, she ultimately decided it was worth it. A trade: one form of suffocation for another. Now, with only pillars of trees and dusty earth surrounding her as far as the eye could see, Eris was starting to question that decision. Maybe, she thought, this was her beginner's luck running out.
Her throat was dry and rattled with an itch she couldn't scratch. It is misery, and she doesn't even have the energy to care. She cringed at the way her muscles felt weary and sore from walking with each step, but despite everything, she refused to let herself stop now. After coming so far, surely water had to appear soon. Just a few more feet could make the difference, and she'd come upon a stream, or maybe even a whole lake, filled with clear, glistening water that would cut through her melted insides like a merciful knife. The thought was so pleasant she started to feel woozy... or maybe she was just going to pass out?
Eris watched the trees before her go fuzzy around their edges, tilting her head curiously, before a painful feeling gripped her chest and made her stagger with the shock of it. Okay, passing out it was. This was new for her. She stumbled to the side, just barely catching herself against a tree with an unceremonious grunt.
Sleek muscles of her legs flexing with effort, Eris tried to gather enough presence of mind to stay upright. A snarl of frustration left her lips. No, this didn't have to happen now. Eris was a survivor. And while sure, she hadn't been feeling great the past... several days, this was entirely too dramatic for her liking. She collected what was left of her strength and made to stand, collapsing almost immediately.
It had knocked the wind out of the lone wolf, and as if that were the last straw, a thought crossed her mind: It seems your punishment is upon you.
A ghostly image of a familiar face passed over Eris' glassy eyes. She tried to mutter the name, but in that very moment the last of her will left her, and she slipped easily into unconsciousness, weight melting into the uneven forest floor. Her body was just one dark heap out of thousands in this great hell, and she'd always known since that day a few months ago that'd she die alone, and without honor. Eris wasn't often wrong about these things.
She let herself slip into darkness and felt the relief of it's embrace.

Even with the uncomfortable heat a robust male trotted his way through the drying forest, branches and pine needles snapping under his rock like paws. Each paw lifted and fell like a horse though each smack of his paw pads announced his approach, but he didn't care. Milo was humming along to his own tune, not a care in the world. The heat was keeping most wolves away, residing in the shadows where they could get some relief and he was taking advantage of it. He didn't have to worry about someone from his past spotting him. Thought of running into someone he knew made him stumble, stubbing a toe against a rock, making him yelp from the sudden pain. Mile stopped in his tracks, licking at the superficial wound before continuing on his way, except this time he had more care in his steps.
Above him, hopping from branch to branch were a few sparrows and chickadees the whistled above, the heat not seeming to slow them down as the went ahead of Milo, until they came to a sudden stop, peering down at something under a tree. Milo spotted them them and paused, tilting his head. Maybe there was some carrion he could snack on. His tongue snaked out, licking his chops as he approached, but as he got closer he saw long legs and fur sticking out in different directions as it rose and fell. He raised an eyebrow before a panic seized his chest.
It wasn't a long dead piece of carrion, it was a living creature-a wolf none the less! Without a thought he lumbered towards the female collapsed on the ground. He came to a stop above her, not thinking of the danger he was putting himself in by being so close to an unsuspecting and sick wolf. "Oh dear," he said softly then cleared his throat, "miss? Uh miss? Are you...are you okay? Oh yeah, great question Milo, of course she isn't okay." He chided himself, shifting from one paw to another anxiously. What was he supposed to do? Calm yourself Alesso, think first. His mothers voice sang softly in his ears and for a moment he felt a pressure on his back but the next second it was all gone. He shook his head. My name's Milo. Alesso is dead. He thought, looking down at the slumped figure in front of him.

E r i s Seconds could've bled into minutes, and minutes into hours, and Eris wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. She was swimming somewhere just under the surface of consciousness, limbs weightless as she floated just below the glittering, water-like divide. It was peaceful, somehow. Quiet and so unlike the suffering she felt waited for her on the other side.
Where even was she? Was this a dream, or death? Eris tried looking around to make out anything that would help her decide, brows furrowing, but there was only darkness. Somewhere above the water she heard a pained groan... Was that her own voice?
And were those birds? The more she tried to focus on the noise, the closer the surface of the water got. A sudden panic gripped her chest and Eris gasped, trying to scramble backwards and away, but her limbs wouldn't move and the invisible force pushing her upward did not relent. Reality around her went fuzzy and her thoughts scrambled into pieces in spite of her trying to keep them all together.
She groaned again, her cheek pressed against something scratchy. Managing to pry one eye open, Eris saw the birds, different shapes and colors that she didn't have names for. They perched overhead on a branch, looking down on her and twittering away. God, could they shut up? Her head was pounding and... what happened anyway? Eyes squinting closed she let out a whimper as a violent cramp seized her stomach, the sound dry and wheezy in her ears. Oh, right.
She laid there for a few moments, cursing her own body for not just letting her stay passed out. Eris was never one to give up so easily, but here in the deserted forest, all alone, she let herself think weak thoughts. Her tall ears pressed back as a strange thumping noise grew louder and louder, and she wondered if perhaps it was her heartbeat. But no, it was a different rhythm entirely. Her nose twitched and then a shadow passed over her face.
It blocked out the remaining light and she hummed, pleased. But then the shadow spoke.
A gasp tore out of her throat and she scrambled backwards, blurry vision trying to make sense of the swimming colors before her. The voice was deep and gentle, it's words completely unintelligible but clearly trying to be soothing, which only bristled Eris' fur further. Lips peeled back into a weak snarl, she blinked furiously, eventually able to make out the figure of a large male wolf standing over her.
Soft, plush brown fur covered his bulky frame, different hues of it smattered across him and lightening up towards the features on his face. He was older, she could tell, and probably larger too, had she been standing up to compare, but he made no further moves towards where Eris laid on the ground and although that was good she hardly found it comforting. Scrambling backward until Eris felt the tree trunk against her back, she kept her vibrant orange gaze on his. It was too late to tell what he said, so she decide to only assume the worst.
"Any closer and I'll kill you," she croaked, the words painfully dry to speak. She tried to stand, but struggled, having instead to slump miserably against the tree. Her gaze dared the male to come any closer, but even she could tell her façade was weak. Bracing her legs against the ground, Eris started panting, having to look away from him as she dry heaved. "Or not," she muttered weakly, mostly to herself. If anyone was doing any killing here, it would be him. She peered back up at the kind-faced stranger, wary and her teeth still exposed in a feeble sneer despite appearances. He could be anyone, or anything. Well, until he decided to lunge or lash out, perhaps this big man was her ticket to some answers. It seemed as good a next move as any. Swallowing around the pain, Eris looked him up and down. "Where am I?"

Milo
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Razza
The air seemed to grow still when the she wolf didn't respond to his questioning. Uncertainty bubbled in his chest, Gods, what if she was dead? Why was death following him around like a sick shadow? What if someone were to find them? He could only imagine someone stumbling in to see his massive form lumbering over a unconscious woman. He wanted to turn tail and run, but the thought of her still clinging to life left him rooted in place. A flicker of movement caught his gaze, her chest was rising and falling still-that was a good sign. For a moment he regretted not taking the role of a healer, perhaps if he had gone along that path his life could be happier. Hell, by this time he would have felt the love from a mate and children. His mood turned somber in mourning for the life he believed he would never have. He was so consumed by his thoughts that he missed the twitching of legs and the opening of burning eyes until the once incapacitated female pushed herself up-though there was a struggle-seeing her force herself through pain made Milo want to shoot forward and give her support, though he knew better, there was a wildness in her eyes that would lead to unpredictability and the man didn't want a fight.
Instead of rushing to her aid, he took a step back, giving her space as her chest heaved and teeth were bared. He responded with a tilt of his head, ears twitching back. Her threat sounded like she had come straight from the desert and at that moment it clicked. She was dehydrated! He didn't find that very surprising, this season was odd. It was like the God of Fire had brought his fury down upon everyone and Milo didn't know why. Zarmir was drying up the river beds and the creeks were all but gone while the lakes were shrinking. Finding something to drink was getting harder day by day-Milo could feel the dryness in the back of his throat. His eyes perked up when he solved the puzzle of what was wrong. "You'r e in the Southern Forest," he finally spoke, though his voice revealed his excitement of knowing what was wrong, "I won't hurt you, don't worry about that," he said with a big smile. "in fact, stay right here, I can find just what can help you." He said, ears throwing themselves forward now. His paws rose and fell from the ground like little hops before he turned and ran off, the smattering of birds following after him, swooping through the tree branches.
Milo trotted between the tree's, nose low to the ground, nostrils flaring as he tried to pick up a familiar sweet scent with his tail high in the air like a flag until finally he found the bushes he was looking for. He shoved his snout inside, grabbing a branch loaded with berries and breaking it off with a precise snap. He grew up snacking on these treats, though back then they had been bigger, he swore it, though they would still work for his plan. Sure they weren't direct water, but they had some in them and could offer some energy to the weak female. He hoped that while she ate these he could run off again in search of water, though that would mean finding something that could work as a bowl, though he could always carry her on his back. He mulled over this idea before running back through the forest with the branch held high, careful not to lose too many berries on the way, but when he got back to her and saw her expression, something told him she wouldn't agree to being carried. He would figure something out, he had to.
Milo crashed through the brush like a freight train, though he didn't notice, trotting right up to the woman and dropped the berry branch in front of her then sat back with a big smile. "You can eat these, I know they aren't water, but they can help." He said, tail sweeping back and forth.

E r i s If this strange man was the killer she'd feared him to be, he was an awfully considerate one. Eris stared at him with baited breath, her expression turning a mixture of thankful and confused as he took a lumbering step back, like he was aware of just how intimidating he could be. Wary eyes watched her back, and she could've sworn there was some genuine concern in there somewhere. Strangers... weren't this nice. What was this guy's deal?
Lifting up a reddish paw, Eris swiped away the dry leaves and dirt that clung to her cheek. "You're in the Southern Forest." His voice riddled with excitement, Eris glanced back at the male. "The Southern Forest?" She repeated, emphasis on the first word. Was that some sort of vague statement, or the proper name of a place? She wanted to ask, but was promptly beat to it by the man. Hardly contained enthusiasm was practically leaking from his pores now, and Eris was beginning to worry that it wasn't a killer who had found her, but some sort of psychopath. "I won't hurt you, don't worry about that. In fact, stay right here, I can find just what can help you."
"Uhhhh," came Eris' reply. She watched in shock as he trotted away, birds parading after him. Quicker than she could process he was out of earshot and eyesight, and the idea that maybe he was some sort of hallucination crossed her mind, but she could smell where he had been, and where he would apparently be returning. Eris huffed. "No thank you." Her words were strained, spoken aloud only to herself while that man was off doing - whatever it was he was doing. "You're crazy and I'm out of here."
Mustering the strength to stand, Eris took one step forward, and then a second. Her toned legs shook underneath her but she concentrated with all her might to keep them supporting her weight. Sticking her tongue out in a pup-like gesture of focus, she made to take another step but was interrupted by a loud CRASH and the rustling of leaves. Eris gasped and felt her front legs give out, paws sliding in front of her until she was in a humiliating, wobbly sort of play-bow.
She threw a glare over her shoulder at what she knew must've created such a start: her big, bumbling hero had returned with-
"Berries?" Eris perked up. Righting herself, she glanced between him and the branch that sported several glistening bundles of color. He grinned and she squinted. "You can eat these, I know they aren't water, but they can help."
Eris didn't question how quickly he was able to find them, or how he seemed to know exactly what she needed. She was too busy staring at his catch, licking her chops. He was right, they weren't water, but... Taking a few weary steps forward, it took everything in her not to lunge forward and devour every juicy little morsel. She cleared her throat and looked up. Not to offer thanks, or ask permission, or even give this strange, generous man a smile. With all her willpower, she pushed the branch back towards him with a challenging stare.
"I don't know who you are or what you might be getting at, so you first. This could be poison for all I know." She jutted her chin down and then back up, wondering how he'd react. "So prove me wrong."
It wasn't paranoid if it was plausible, she reasoned to herself. She'd suspected he was some kind of sadist from the start, and seeing her suffer a slow, toxic death would be a real treat for someone like that. But Eris was desperate. If he wasn't going to kill her, and just walked away now, because of her thanklessness, she knew she'd end up eating the berries out of sheer desperation. Proof or not. Spying his wagging tail, her instincts nagged her that she might have it all wrong, but ever the realist she forced herself to be patient and see.

Milo just stared at her, his big eyes blinking as she challenged him about poison. Poisonous berries? Who would give that to someone in need? The thought made his blood run cold as he continued to stare at her and her defiant gaze. He had been in such a rush to find the berries that he hadn't noticed she had moved. His brows furrowed as he stared at her, putting two and two together. How she was able to get up and take a few steps were behind his comprehension, though that was brushed away to replaced with concern. She shouldn't be pushing herself to move when in such a condition, but these thoughts didn't make it into words.
"Prove...you...wrong?" He repeated slowly, dumbfounded. They were berries! Really tasty berries and now that he thought of it, his was a bit thirsty and a few berries would hit the spot. "Well, okay." He rolled his shoulders in a shrug and ducked his head down into the branch without a second though, snatching a few berries between his teeth and lifted his head, snapping the fruit from the branch and for lack of better words, wolfed it down, some of the berry juice dribbling down the brutes chin, but he didn't mind. His tongue snaked out, catching the sweet liquid.
When he was done he took a step back and swallowed, giving the dame a big smile. "That leaves less berries for you, but those were good." He announced, lifting his head and shaking out his fur. With some extra sustenance he felt energized, but also he felt a little hungrier. Was there ever a time he wasn't hungry? The thought made him snicker a little. No, he was always hungry and had little self control-hence the change in his body type. But even with the extra weight he felt happier. Sure his knees ached sometimes and he got out of breath if he walked uphill for too long, but he was happier than he had been before. "But, I know where to get more if you want more." He added with a big smile, though his teeth were still smattered with remnants of berry flesh and juice.

The man was put out by her hesitation, which was good. It was more comfortable if the both of them were confused and a bit wary, thought Eris with a twitch of her ear. She watched as he paused to think, her expression cool as steel. Shortly after, he shrugged two large shoulders and leaned down, seeming happy to take a few berries between his teeth and start chewing. Eris was like a hawk, watching and barely waiting for him to swallow before jumping into action. Something finally snapped in her. Ravenous like she'd never been before, Eris couldn't devour the berries fast enough even while acutely aware that she was being watched. She heard the man say something from above where she crouched over the branch like a feral beast, but the words were completely lost to the sound of her own chomping and contented grumbles, her manners nowhere to be seen. Her mother would've been humiliated. Eris quickly banished the thought and instead let herself revel in the sweetness of the berries, which barely dulled the blades of thirst churning in her stomach, but it was enough for now. The man and his words would have to wait until she was done. After all, any embarrassment she might or might not've felt was nothing in comparison to how much she hated herself for allowing this situation to happen in the first place. These past few days Eris hadn't cared if she lived or died, and that carelessness is what led her to this point. Now, thanks to this stranger, she didn't have to live with the consequences of that weakness. Without Dysnoma she truly was pathetic... a nothing. All her purpose died that same day her sister had. After several minutes of eating Eris righted herself again, standing and licking her own chops clean the same way she'd seen the stranger do. She couldn't quite bring herself to meet his eye, let alone express gratitude, but she did manage to give him a nod. It was as close as he was going to get to a "thank you" from her. The branch was picked clean and mangled at their paws. Clearing her throat Eris looked around, at anything other than the man. Somehow the forest seemed a little less suffocating, now. "So... is it always this dry around here?" she asked, low voice sounding gruff even while making awkward small talk. "I mean, you must be a local. Since." She jutted her chin down towards the berries. He knew the area, and it's name, so it wasn't hard to guess. Eris gave him a glance out of the corner of her eye, judging his next move. Bri

Milo
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Razza
The way she tore into the berries made Milo take a step back. For a moment distain crossed his face but when he recognized that emotion he pushed it away. Alesso felt that, not Milo. He was a good man now and this woman was just hungry. Of course she would eat like this and it wasn't his place to put her down for her actions while she was starving. The expression was gone as soon as he made the realization and he sat back on his haunches, gaze turning towards the sky, tracking the birds as they tracked back and forth between the tree branches, singing their songs to each other. It made him smile. The son was still burning down on them, but he imagined that the heat it poured between his shoulders belonged to his former partner.
Her words pulled him from his little day dream were Valorie was alive, scampering between his paws and ready to fight even though she had no scary qualities about her. Back then she was so annoying in his eyes, now he thought of her with endearment. "I am a local," he said with a nod, though he didn't want to go back into detail about where he really was from. The name of that land brought too many bad memories and was too complicated to explain to an outsider.
"Normally it isn't this try, this is something..." he paused, the words leaving his brain like ants marching from their hill until he caught it again, "this is something that hasn't been seen before. It's kind of concerning." He shrugged, having confined himself to dealing with the pain of the heat and constant company of a sore throat. The weather would change eventually, right? He looked at this new wolf, tilting his head. "I guess you aren't from here...sorry this isn't the best time to do be here. Usually the valley is much more plentiful and welcoming. I'm Milo by the way." He introduced himself, figuring that was the natural course of action.

Eris
Eris noticed that the man had turned his head away at the sight of her savagery, either uncomfortable or polite, she couldn't tell. Deciding that it didn't matter, she huffed, taking a seat where they both lingered under the protection of the trees overhead. She watched him and thought he looked pensive, until of course her question snapped him out of it. But even as he answered, he did seem more subdued. "I am a local," he nodded, Eris staring at him intensely. She was stuck somewhere between trying to figure him out and if or why she should even care. "Normally it isn't this dry, this is something..." Jutting her chin upwards, Eris started wondering if he lost his train of thought entirely, but it eventually came. "This is something that hasn't been seen before. It's kind of concerning.""You don't say," she deadpanned, but immediately shook her head a little. This wasn't his fault. "I guess you aren't from here...sorry this isn't the best time to do be here. Usually the valley is much more plentiful and welcoming. I'm Milo by the way." She released a short breath. "Well usually I'm not so easy to kill off. Looks like times are changing." "I'm Eris," she added, finally managing to meet his eyes again and giving him another little nod. Milo, then. Milo the local. Eris thought for a moment, forelegs already straining with the effort to keep herself upright. Actually, maybe the time for thinking was over. It was time for her to go. She stood very abuptly, wobbling like a tree in a storm. "Well, Milo. Your help has been appreciated, and I'll keep all this in mind, but-" she went to take a step and nearly faceplanted, but recovered quickly. In her voice, little cracks let on that something wasn't right. "I need to keep moving." She took a few more shaky steps before hesitation forced her to stop, and glancing back at him, she frowned deeply. Her eyes squinted like it pained her to ask for anything more... but maybe it just looked like she wanted to bite his head off. She had to ask, though. "The nearest water source. Where is it?"An impolite end to this meeting no doubt, but between Eris' embarrassment and lightheadedness, her judgement was beginning to cloud. You're better on your own, go find somewhere to rest. That was her best option, surely. Bri

"Well usually I'm not so easy to kill off." The statement made him chuckle a little. He remembered a time he was that confident...and all the trouble that came with it. But this girl seemed more than capable of taking care of herself-when not dehydrated and hungry. He shifted a little, about to speak when she made herself stand and he watched, tensed and ready to step in the moment she fell. He almost went forward when her face almost met the dirt but last minute caught herself. He frowned, rising to his paws-though his joints protested against his weight, but in the time it took him to get up, Eris was already trying to walk away. It was like watching a fawn learn to walk and it took Milo a lot of self control to not rush forward and help.
Her next question made him laugh. "Water source? Good luck," he said the last few words with some sobriety, "with the heat nearly everything has dried up. Rivers are becoming creeks, creeks are just cracked mud and fish bones, even ponds and lakes are starting to disappear." He said with a shake of his head. "I've been surviving off berries lately while trying to find something. I heard from the birds that there's a remnant of a lake far ahead and if that doesn't pan out the last resort is trying to find the swamp lands and that can be precarious. There are three packs here, from what I've heard all are struggling for water." He thought of the Au'Dar, despite everything he hoped they were alright, but even if they were unscathed they wouldn't open up their home to those dying of thirst.
Milo shook out his fur and took a few steps towards Eris, gait relaxed, tail lowered. "I don't think it is wise to go it alone." He said then his eyes lit up with the most perfect idea. "I know what, we can look together! Two sets of eyes is way better than one, and sometimes the birds help me by telling me where to go." He looked upwards, a few song birds staring at them from the branches above.

Eris Glancing over her shoulder, Eris saw Milo and his reaction to her struggling. Slowly and steadily he stood, bending each limb while they protested like thick branches on a great, old tree. He frowned at her, looking as though he was biting his tongue, and Eris in comparison felt like a brittle leaf caught in the wind. But then he laughed at her question, and strangely enough Eris didn't crumple at the sound. Instead something inside her lifted. She thought she could find the most minute inkling that he, too, found something about all this frustrating, hidden in the grave tones of that laugh. A hint that she wasn't the only one struggling here, which was a comfort she hadn't known she needed. "With the heat nearly everything has dried up. Rivers are becoming creeks, creeks are just cracked mud and fish bones, even ponds and lakes are starting to disappear." Eris stopped trying to make her feeble escape and listened. He shook his head while describing how the berries were what he used to stay alive, and how... birds were relaying information to him. She pulled a face at that bit but decided it was a question for another time. "There are three packs here, from what I've heard all are struggling for water.""Three?" She said, just short of astonished. Not one, not two, but three packs nearby? And all of them thirsty, too. She could imagine with great detail what kind of conflict conditions like these would breed; three packs in an area would already be at each other's throats over control of prey herds and land. Now with water sources more valuable than ever and the herds thinning without reliable watering holes, this place must've been taunt with tension. She was beginning to wonder just what kind of hellscape she had found herself in. "I don't think it is wise to go it alone."Milo approached her, clearly being careful, which Eris could appreciate. She watched as he contained his excitement to the glittering pair of eyes he regarded her with. "I know what, we can look together! Two sets of eyes is way better than one, and sometimes the birds help me by telling me where to go."Eris followed his gaze upwards, where a small flock of birds watched them with (admittedly intelligent looking) small, black eyes. Trying to gather her thoughts, Eris turned back to Milo as if to say something, but no words came at first. The most recognizable part of her mind colored her thoughts with frustration. She was sick, and tired, and this onslaught of enthusiasm and bad news only made her long for a solitary hole to crawl into. But there was a smaller part there too, planted deep inside her, that Eris could not ignore. It reminded her that she did not want to die, and she did not want to be alone. That she would be a weak fool to decline Milo's strange, undeserved kindness, and if there was a chance to make it out of this alive, she was honor-bound to take it. Expression mirroring her weakening resolve, Eris dug her claws silently into the earth. Dammit, fine."Okay," she conceded, hating how pathetic the word had sounded in her mouth. Looking back at Milo, she tried again. "I suppose I don't have much choice. Lead the way." She looked to him, wondering if he would start walking or maybe, perhaps, climb up a tree and strike up a conversation with the birds. As soon as the unkind thought crossed her mind, Eris felt guilty for it. Her face contorted into something unreadable, and before she realized it she was holding out a shaky paw, signaling him to wait just one more moment. "And uh, Milo... your help... it is appreciated. I don't understand why you're doing this, but..." She set down her paw with a small thud and seemed to gather herself. "As soon as I am better, I will repay you somehow. Just name your price."Bri

Milo
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Razza
Seeing her claws dig into the earth, Milo was sure Eris was going to use what was left of her strength and lash out at him, telling him she didn't need him, and though he was used to unpleasant words, he knew they would sting. He braced himself for the backlash, but instead he agreed. Such words almost making him fall back on his oversized rump in shock and for a moment he felt doubt. What if he couldn't find what they needed? What if she just ended up weaker and it was all his fault? He tried to brush away the thoughts, he could do this. He'd been able to support himself so being able to help someone else shouldn't be a problem. He was about to stop forward when she stopped him and he was ready for her to change her mind, tell him to leave her alone but he was proved wrong again.
He listened to her apology and smiled at her. "Sometimes it's better to not understand, it makes things hard to process." he said, though it was better said than done. "And you don't have to repay me. I'm just doing what is right." He added, though by the look in her eye he guessed that she wasn't someone who would take no for an answer. For a moment he saw his younger self in her and he hoped she wouldn't have to suffer like he did. "Besides, what I want isn't possible." he added as above a few of the birds twittered their songs and launched into the air, making him furrow his brow. "We should probably get a move on, we're a bit close to a pack and sometimes wolves like to got outside their territories." He said, a bit of worry creeping into his voice as the thought of seeing an old pack mate entered his mind again. He took a few steps towards Eris then past her, though paused and looked back at her with a kind smile. "If you need to take a moment to rest though, don't think twice before telling me." He added, not sure how far they would be going today, normally he went as far as his paws would carry him, but now he had to think of someone else and he'd have to hope to come across more than just berries for them to eat, maybe he'd have to try his luck with actual hunting, a task that was easy in his youth but now....well, he wasn't the most elegant man out there and his stamina wasn't up to snuff, but he would try if he had to. Luck was still out there and he was hoping it would be in their side.

Eris Eris waited for Milo's reaction to her apology, and unshockingly, was met with a smile. "Sometimes it's better to not understand, it makes things hard to process," he brushed off. Seemingly so calm and happy-go-lucky, he would be the type to say something naïve like that. Not that she thought he was actually naïve. Something told Eris that a man of Milo's size, age, and demeanor, would have seen a thing or two. Still, she couldn't agree with this take, but she held her tongue. He was just trying to make her feel better. "And you don't have to repay me. I'm just doing what is right.""Tsk. I pay my debts." Milo's good intentions or not, the thought of letting him get away without the chance to even the score made her fur prickle. "Besides, what I want isn't possible." Eris glanced at him at that comment, her teeth clenching in familiarity. Before she could sort out her thoughts to argue further, though, Milo turned a focused brow up to the birds and quickly changed the subject. She let it drop without further insistence. Once her strength had returned she'd catch him a hare or two and let that be that. Milo mentioned that they happened to be close to one of the three pack's territories, and that it was wise they move on. The thought of being found by a patrol party in her current state egged her into standing and following him with a few shaky steps, brushing past him with a grumble at his insistence she didn't push herself. "Let's get moving."And so Eris focused on walking, pushing forward in the direction Milo had started with trust that he wasn't far behind. Each step sent a trembling jolt of unease through her body like a lightning bolt, but after a few minutes her pace fell into a steady rhythm. When she could finally break her concentration enough to focus on something else, her mind started wandering back to the conversation her and her new babysitter just had. "Tell me more about the packs," she said, turning to look at Milo now that the movement wasn't going to send her toppling over. "You seem eager to get away from this place - the one that lives here must be territorial?" Eris' dark, tufted ears flicked in curiosity, wondering what Milo had to say. She silently hoped he would wipe that concerned, paternal look off his face as well, knowing it would only make her irritated after a while. Everything would be fine if they just kept walking, she told herself, but it'd be a more convincing sentiment if Milo would fix his expression to agree. As it stood, him and his big dumb face were all she had. Bri

Milo
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Razza
Milo had expected for the she wolf to brush past him, a smile quirked his maw as she did just that, instructing him to keep moving. She hardly knew him and yet she was ready to take the lead-which he didn't mind. Sometimes following someone else was a break in and of itself, though he knew that he would have to stay aware, using his knowledge of the world around them to ensure their risk of running into others remained low. He walked with Eris, his long stride matching hers, though he chose to shorten his steps, staying closer to the rear of their two wolf group. He kept an eye out, perhaps for a rival wolf or to be ready incase Eris lost her strength and fell again. Her pace seemed good for now, but he kept his guard up, just in case.
At her question of the pack they were nearest to being territorial, a grimace crossed his face, but like everything else negative in his life, he pushed it behind him and hid it with a kind look on his face, though the trouble still floated in his gaze. "There are three. The one we are closest to are the Au'Dar, they will kill any outsider they come across without question." He said rather firmly, though he was chastising himself for allowing him to be so close to his old home. Sometimes nostalgia guided him instead of his thoughts. "Then there are the Vertok in the mountains, they are friendlier, that's for sure and then there are the Sanzin. Blood thirsty brutes, each and everyone one of them." He said the last sentence with a bitter taste in his mouth. His hatred for them was bred into him, out of any group they posed the most thread from his understanding and hearing the horror stories about them only made him feel sick to his stomach with malice. When he had been young he envisioned himself slaying these heathens, but he had never gotten close to the sentiment.

Eris As Eris walked she tried to focus on the forest floor, how the ground was cool but felt oddly like dust beneath her pads. It was a disturbing contrast - almost as disturbing as Milo's presence looming by her flank. She wasn't used to this. Even with his assurances still fresh in the air, her mind just kept repeating "why." With the weight of his gaze practically on the back of her head Eris felt her fur prickling, though she kept her gaze trained stubbornly forward. With that she didn't get to see Milo's reaction to her question, but Eris decided that as long as he answered, she didn't care. And answer he did. Her ears pointed back to face him, and by the set of her jaw it was clear Eris was listening intently. Her tactical nature urged her to remember every detail Milo could give her, so she repeated names in her head as he spoke them. Au'Dar, Vertok, Sanzin."Blood thirsty brutes, each and everyone one of them," Milo tacked on, making Eris glance over, finally. "I've heard that a million times. And it sounds like the Au'Dar aren't much better." She'd heard it about her own home, in fact, but that felt like a different lifetime. Eris licked the pair of scars across her lip, looking fierce but feeling uneasy. To be caught in the crosshairs while so physically defenseless was a nightmare come to life, and at least back home she'd had her family, her status, and her unmatched strength. Out here she was weak and defenseless and no idea what to expect. She wouldn't have come here even if she was in perfect health, actually, a thought which in turn made her wonder... "Why are you here, and not closer to the mountains?" She looked at Milo with suspicion. "Are you a fool, or do you have a death wish?"A small flock of birds fluttered overhead then, making Eris flinch. A few twittered, and as Eris stared up at them with disdain she could almost describe the sounds as angry. "Hell, that one is glaring at me, I swear," she muttered to herself in reaction, but quickly refocused on walking. Maybe some of Milo's crazy talk was starting to rub off. Bri
