Briar
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Tag Another long afternoon of training and Briar was finally retired to go enjoy some time alone as to not strain herself. She could feel the ache in her paws and the muscles of her legs as she made her way to the mountain spring. The walk was long and it made her feel more exhausted, but the view and the relaxing sounds of the water were worth the protests of her body. The words of her mentor still echoed in her head.
"Briar, yes you are strong, but you can't push yourself so hard. You're bound to break if you keep going like you are at this rate. Go. Training is over." Ryv's voice was stern as if if he was still speaking in her ear now though he was far back at the training area with the other Rook Apprentices. Being her elder Briar had to listen to him, though she still huffed under her breath as she walked. If she could push herself so far why stop? It would only make her stronger, that's how building muscles worked from her perspective, but she couldn't argue and so she left.
At first she was going to find her own clearing and continue training on her own, but as she walked she felt a tiredness take over and changed her mind, setting her sites on the spring, she could hear it now, her ears pushing forward and directing her. Though she knew the location it was still easy to get lost if one didn't pay attention.
The sound of rushing water ran to greet her as she cast her gaze up, releasing the breath she hadn't realized she had been holding when she saw the spring. She moved a few few closer, finding a spot underneath a raised rock that kept the ground beneath void of snow and laid down, finally relaxing her body, though the task made her wince and release a groan. "What a day." She muttered to herself.

Winter. Oh, what a grave time of year. At least those were the thoughts of the dark shadow that lurked through the snow-coated forest. Revan couldn't stand the winter season - it was cold, hunting was even harder, it brought tormenting memories of his past...and yet, here it was again. It was always the same for him, every winter. He would wander, starve, fall into a pit of depression, freeze, all until spring finally came and he could be free again. Slightly more free, at least.
He sighed, the breathe from his nose forming a cloud of mist. His stride, though usually brisk and uptight, was slack in a steady rhythm. He didn't have the motivation for his usual pace, to say the least. As he thought, it wouldn't get him anywhere. Everything looked the same - trees, snow, rocks, dead grass. Sure, it was just typical things in nature that wouldn't bother anyone else, but he wasn't anyone else. When everything was snowbound, all he could picture was the scene of his deceased mate, surrounded by typical nature and snow, just like this. Revan scowled deeply, shutting his crimson eyes as tightly as he could. Something has to be different...something, anything.
His ears pricked. Over the few chirping birds and creaking trees, he heard a soft gurgling. A brook, he assumed, unfrozen in this desolate winter wonderland. That was new, and different from the memories that haunted him. Eagerly, his long legs quickened into a slow, bouncy trot. Maybe a refreshing drink would relieve his brooding mind a bit. It wouldn't hurt for some rest as well, seeing as he got minimal sleep earlier that morning. Winter really was quite hard on him, he thought. He was starving, tired, cold, and worst of all clouded with dire thoughts. But he was a fighter, he would make it through this winter alone, just like any other. He was determined to.
He tried pushing the thoughts away for now, for he could hear the gently flowing water growing louder in his ears. Revan slowed his pace, those eyes of deep red taking in the scene as he finally came upon the stream. No matter what mood he was in, or how little motivation he had, he never trusted a new area. Paws placed carefully as to not make loud noises in the snow, and a last glance around, he stooped to lap at the cold - freezing! - water. The icy chill nearly gave him a brain freeze, but the break was much appreciated. Perhaps here he could relax - it seemed peaceful and, best of all, no one else was—
"What a day."
Uncontrollably, Revan let out a low gasp, flinching away from the sudden voice before freezing in a crouched position. Quickly his wide eyes picked out a figure laying under an overhanging boulder. He stared, unsure of what to do as well as silently scolding himself. Even if they blended in well against the natural stone, even if he was unobservant in his state of mind, he should have seen that wolf right there. Idiot! he thought to himself. He glanced around desperately, he really didn't want to interact with anyone...but there was no cover he could scurry to, and he was a black and coppery red, tall, and spiky wolf for heaven's sake - there was no doubt that in this stark snow, he was as good as spotted. A low growl edged his sigh as he decided to confront the wolf. He wasn't one to run away after all, this is what he got for being so incautious.
Straightening his posture, he cleared his throat, audible enough to be heard. He wasn't sure how to start a conversation, in fact he wasn't sure how to interact in general. He couldn't even remember what they had just said, and he didn't want to speak. Well, this was awkward.

SKITS As he trudged up and around the rocky terrain, he kept his nose pointed to the ground. The Bishop was on the hunt for the illusive...parsley herb. He knew it liked rocky type terrain, but the plant didn't last very long in the snow. "I may get lucky. It would be awesome if..." He started mumbling to himself. He stopped and pushed some snow away with his nose exposing the ground beneath it. Nothing. It was only a bare twig, lost of all life. He looked out and let out a huff sending a puff of steam into the air. As he scanned the area, snow collected on his back but he didn't even notice. He was built for this type of weather. He ear flopped as he turned his head as he spotted two others that stood out against the snow. As he approached, he recognized one of them laying under the rock out of the snow. Without noticing the other wolf's unsure nature. Skits expresses cheerily, "How are Briar? You're resting out of the snow I see. Wouldn't the rock ground be just as cold as laying on the snow? At least the snow is softer."Without blinking an eye and with the same level of enthusiasm, he turns to the other, "I haven't seen you around? Are you new? Do you need any help with anything?" NOTES: I hope y'all are ready for this question freak. Bri Burn

Briar Briar let her mind wander to the thoughts of the future. She had it all planned out after all. She was nearly complete with training and on the day she would graduate from her apprenticeship and become a Rook she planned on making an impact. She didn't want to necessarily be in a leadership position in the pack, rather she wanted the reputation of being reliable and trusted enough to lead hunts on her own and the way to do that was to work harder than anyone else, at least that's what she believed. She imagined herself making a name for herself as she went on every hunt possible, outrunning her hunting partners and playing key roles in taking down prey. There was nothing more important to her than the role of the Rook
Sure Knights were important, they defended the pack and the Bishops kept everyone healthy, but the Rooks were to supply food! Sure everyone could hunt on their own but by dividing ranks like this there were higher chances of larger prey being taken down by bigger groups of skilled hunters. Because of the Rooks no one would go hungry! She wanted to be one of the reasons that the pack thrived, not just survive. She wanted to feel the pride in her chest of taking down an elk and bringing back to her wide eyed pack mates and she wanted to feel the comradery she saw in the hunting parties. They all seemed like such close friends, which of course they would be! How could you work in such a tight knit unit and not have some sort of friendship? She dreamed of those bounds, but as her mind wandered into its day dream she was oblivious that others approached, until a throat cleared.
Her eyes snapped open, landing on a slim legged and spikey black and red wolf. A color combination not common in this land-it made her curious as she eyed him. Briar didn't move right away, keeping still as she evaluated the new commer. He didn't smell of a pack and he definitely wasn't a Vertok, she would have remembered him. But if he didn't fall into these categories than just who was he?
Just as she was about to open her maw another wolf appeared, though she knew these floppy eared wolf anywhere. It was Skits, the Bishop full of questions and sure enough he started talking as if he hadn't walked into an awkward situation-a thing she was grateful for. Briar wasn't the best with breaking the ice so having Skits here was a nice back up. She half smiled as he started to talk and slowly rose from her spot, though her body protested. She ignored the urge to lay back down and stepped out from under the rock. "I'm alright Skits, just got done with training," she said kindly, "and I laid under the rock because I didn't feel like getting wet." She said, though the Bishop did have a point, the snow would be much softer than the hard packed ground. She looked between the two, deciding to stay quiet, there was no need to add on to Skits many questions, though her eyes did burn with curiosity.

R E V A N
Black nostrils took in a brief, alert sniff of the air, absorbing all the information they could get. The resting wolf, whom Revan determined as a young female, hadn't even noticed him until he had cleared his throat. Another thing he scolded himself for - maybe he could have slipped away undetected after all. But it was too late now, for deep pools of crimson red had locked with those of amber. He was, as some may put it, screwed.
Revan was on edge, now, and certainly wasn't the last to catch attention of the crunching footsteps in the snow. Great. Those red eyes darted to another wolf, and a rather strange looking one at that. Of course, Revan didn't care much for anybody no matter what they looked like, but in his own opinion, he had never seen such a curly coat, or a curly tail on a wolf, before. In fact, was this fellow e en quite wolf? Something just didn't seem right, but it seemed as if the male himself had enough questions for anyone's curiousity.
"How are Briar? You're resting out of the snow I see. Wouldn't the rock ground be just as cold as laying on the snow? At least the snow is softer." The strange one addressed the other wolf. They clearly knew each other, and as the long legged loner took in another whiff of scent, he caught the strong smell of a pack on both of them. He glanced to the ground for a moment, calculating. In his distant brooding, he must have missed the territory markers completely, and now he could be in trouble of trespassing. Oh, well, he thought, these two looked easy to handle if worse came to worse, anyone did in his arrogant perspective.
"I haven't seen you around? Are you new? Do you need any help with anything?" The spiky male looked back up, locking his glaring eyes with the green of the other males. He titled his head just slightly, aloof. Did the fellow - what did the other wolf call him, Blitz? His name was Blitz now, since Revan forgot already - mean if he was new to their pack? He wasn't quite sure, but if that is what "Blitz" meant, then it could be his ticket out. "Indeed, I am." Not exactly a lie, he was indeed new to the lands around here, and if they thought he was new to the pack then maybe they would let him go without question. His wit had worked before on other imbecile packs, after all. "I request no assistance, I was simply exploring the area." His voice was low and gruff as he stood straight. His red eyes glanced between the two wolves steadily, warily. Whether his chicanery worked or not, he didn't trust either of them, and kept a rigid, still form next to the creek, as if a shadow cast from a still form.
