[googlefont=Cinzel Decorative] REVAN Sun won't shine down here in this valley The land reeked of various wolf scents, but Revan wasn't sure how near they were, and he wasn't sure that he cared, either. So long as they left him alone, he was content to ride out the day at the edge of the forest that ascended up towards the mountains. He had come here seeking the cool breeze of the higher elevations, and as far as he was concerned, he had found the perfect spot, pack territory or not.
The lithe figure of black, red, and white lay neatly along a horizontal branch shooting off of a long-since fallen oak. It stretched out towards the thin treeline, overlooking the gentle slope of rolling fields towards what looked like a mountain spring, humbled by the abnormally dry weather. At least, Revan thought as he lay on his stomach, his hind legs tucked under himself and tail slung over the side of the branch, he would have water nearby to relent the hot air. Until then he fully intended on letting himself relax in the shade of towering pines and let his crimson eyes sweep over the golden-tinged grasslands that stretched below. And most of all, let his mind wander, for better or worse.
Until, at least, something would catch his eye, and his pointed ears would perk, watching it silently like some panther in the trees.

I know I always come and go Once again Maxem was dismissed from the pack to scout out the forest for potential prey while the hunters went off on their own course. He couldn't deny that he had wanted to go out with the group but knew that it would be a cold day in the underworld before that ever happened. He was an accessory that was only used when deemed necessary and put off on his own when his value wasn't apparent to the pack. He was glad to be of service but he knew that deep down if he were to disappear no one else would notice or care except for two friends he held in high regard.
So, with these thoughts whirring in his head he trudged through the forest but his heart wasn't much into searching game trails for those who wouldn't be thankful. Maxem was so wrapped in his thoughts that he almost didn't notice a thick shadow looming ahead of him, bringing him to a pause. Something was in a tree but it wasn't a bird. Slowly his amber gaze slid up into the branches and due to the others pelt coloring it didn't take him long to see who was casting it and his eyes widened with wonder as his heart jump started with excitement for up in the tree was another wolf. One he didn't know but it didn't matter to him, it was another wolf who could climb!

[googlefont=Cinzel Decorative] REVAN Sun won't shine down here in this valley So, his suspicions were correct, the dark male thought as he eyed the figure, it was a wolf. One of mottled browns and lean figure, and seemingly just smaller than himself, from what he could tell at a topside view. He watched them amble along the woodline, nearing his perch amid the trees, and then much to his dismay, pause just below him. He remained still, maybe they wouldn't see him...
Revan's scowl tightened as amber eyes followed his shadows upward and locked with his of red. His entire body stiffened under the stranger's gaze, and his claws dug into the bark of the old tree. Why were they looking at him like that, with such wide eyes? It made him wary, and for a moment he was about to ask if their face always looked like that, but quickly changed direction.
"Can I help you?" His rich, gruff voice asked, rather bluntly. To say the least, he wasn't meaning to help them at all, less it be directions to the quickest way to leave him alone.

I know I always come and go "You're in a tree!" Maxem exclaimed the obvious, his excitement growing, causing him to shift from paw to paw as he stared up at the stranger, not thinking that as a pack member he should be trying to scare off this other wolf that he had never seen before but he couldn't bring himself to do it. "I've never met another wolf who could climb before!" A grin full of excitement was on his face and questions started to fill is mind, where did this other learn to climb? Did they climb a lot? Did they have any techniques he didn't know of? Every question came and went like a dragon fly flitting above a pond and it became harder for him to contain himself.
Maxem twisted in a circle, focusing on a tree near the one Revan was perched in and leapt up onto the nearest branch, which bent under his weight but didn't break. Maxem reached up to the nearest branch and pulled himself up, this one sturdier but still it flexed but Maxem didn't let that stop him until he came to a branch parallel to the others and stood there, peering at Revan with a mixture of curiosity and wonder. "Who taught you?"

[googlefont=Cinzel Decorative] REVAN Sun won't shine down here in this valley "You're in a tree!" Red eyes narrowed at those words. Revan had figured that was kind of obvious, was it not? He couldn't for the life of him understand what was going through this wolf's head. Shock? Curiosity? Excitement, it seemed? But...why? "I've never met another wolf who could climb before!" Wait...seriously? This took Revan aback, and his sharp brow furrowed with confusion. "Is it not a common practice?" He asked, his tone genuine with his own curiosity. To be fair, he thought, he couldn't recall ever meeting another wolf in a tree either, but he had always figured that if he could do it then surely others must as well.
The perplexed man watched as the stranger turned, and before his own eyes scaled the branches of a tree like it was nothing. Impressive...Revan himself mostly stuck to climbing fallen or leaning trees. His intrigue was not enough to mask his wariness, though. As the wolf climbed to his level Revan sat up with haunches taut beneath him. He may have what he proclaimed to be 'perfect' balance, but even still he wasn't about to be trapped in a tree should this male have ulterior motives. It wasn't that far of a jump to the ground... nothing he couldn't handle, at least. But only if it should come to that. For now, he remained still, watching the stranger with keen eyes.
"Who taught you?" They asked, eyes shining in youthful awe. Revan shifted his weight under the gaze. Even with his bad memory, he could easily say no one had ever looked at him with such... wonder. And all for climbing a tree? Tsk, surely that was the most menial of his skills. It made him curious, just how sheltered was this guy? "I am my own teacher," Revan responded in few words. He wasn't sure how to navigate this, really, and so he decided to get straight to the point. "I fail to understand your excitement. Do wolves not commonly climb trees?" Had he been doing something wrong this entire time? This earthy man sitting before him amidst the branches helped him feel some relief. At least if he was doing something so unnatural, he wasn't the only fool.

I know I always come and go For a moment Maxem stared at him when the other man asked if it wasn't a common practice. Was he from a place where climbing was more common? That idea filled him with more excitement and for a moment he wanted to believe that he had somehow been switched at birth and brought to the wrong back but luck didn't smile upon him like that. "No, I'm the only one who climbs here." His voice lowering a little in disappointment.
Maxem watched, eyes widening slightly at the way the other sat up and kept balance like it was nothing. Even with his experience in climbing and feeling more at home in the trees than the forest floor he still found himself swaying slightly and tensing to keep his balance at times.
"Your own teacher..." He repeated slowly before a grin broke out across his face, "I taught myself too," he said, his tail swishing slightly in the breeze, "like I said, no one else climbs here so seeing someone else is just exciting." As he spoke he began to wonder if perhaps he was being too much and for a moment his thoughts went back to his pack and how they would stare at him like he was some kind of freak before finding use for his skills, the memories making him deflate a little.

[googlefont=Cinzel Decorative] REVAN Sun won't shine down here in this valley "No, I'm the only one who climbs here."
"Not anymore." The dark man stated. It could have been meant as a hubris jest, but it fell flat leaving his blunt tongue. His mind went back to his previous thoughts then. When it came to anything aside from social cues, Revan was sharp, and put two and two together quickly. What this fellow mentioned about being the only one to climb around here made him recall being in pack territory, and sure enough, after a terse sniff, the jumbled smell of pack wolves was even more pungent in his presence. Interesting, how come he hadn't been demanded to leave yet? Surely, his skill wasn't quite that remarkable. ...but then again, it was his skill, wasn't it?
"You must be a resident of the local pack," Revan thought aloud, quirking one sharp brow to punctuate his assumption. "I must say, I am...impressed to see another so proficient at climbing, as well. Your pack must value you." Was tree climbing something of value? He wasn't sure, but if it indeed was as rare as this man made it seem, it made sense that it would be. Perhaps it could be used for hunting roosting pheasants or ambushing prey. Revan hadn't ever thought of that before, and he had to admit, he was intrigued. But before he asked any questions he would assess introductions, after all, who was he if not an exemplary gentleman? "What do they call you, tree-lover?"

I know I always come and go Maxem's ears perked up when this newcomer said he wasn't the only one who climbed, he may have been lacking a but on the intelligence side but he wasn't going to let himself think that for some reason this other man would be hanging around the pack lands, as far as he knew the Vertok hadn't accepted any new members and it seemed like he almost hadn't realized that he was in the realm of a pack until now.
Even though the other male seemed to be connecting the dots Maxem straightened a little at the praise, not used to hearing something that seemed more genuine than he had heard before. "My name is Maxem, what is yours?" He asked, not wanting to think too much about his place in his pack. He was just an accessory to the wolves whose ranks actually mattered, he reminded himself to count himself lucky to be even considered useful to his pack for finding a role for him with his skill. He hated it sometimes, how even with his talents and ability to find them prey, he was still treated like dirt beneath their paws but he found that with anger it didn't get her much of anywhere so what was the use?

[googlefont=Cinzel Decorative] REVAN Sun won't shine down here in this valley Even for the socially inept like Revan, it wasn't hard to notice the way the smaller man puffed up at the recognition. A sharp brow raised only faintly. Perhaps this fellow truly was valued after all, and just maybe he let it go to his head... Ah, how Revan hated those types, even though he was certainly guilty of having his own ego, the hypocrite.
The man introduced himself per Revan's request. Maxem. Maxem, Maxem, Maxem. It was certainly unique, surely he could remember it. And, typically, this Maxem asked for introductions as well. "Revan." The dark man answered curtly.
And...now what? Revan certainly wasn't the one to rely on when it came to carrying a conversation, but it seemed for the moment it was his responsibility. He shifted his weight from one paw to the other, racking his brain. Should he ask another question? What? He didn't have much else to say, seeming that his suspicions of this Maxem being a pack wolf were indeed factual, should he even bother to ask more? He had never been one to waste his breath if it wasn't necessary. But, if he didn't, there would just be awkward silence between him and this stranger until one of them thought of something to say or simply left. As he gazed -- steadily yet expectantly -- at Maxem, he thought that perhaps the latter would be the best. Truly, he was horrible at interactions.

I know I always come and go Maxem was too consumed with his thoughts to notice the raised eyebrow on the other mans face, he was too involved in his own warring thoughts of his pack, who he was, and how it seemed like those two pieces couldn't fit together without some discomfort. Sometimes he wondered, or hoped, that had he had been adopted or somehow dropped into the wrong pack. The feeling of not belonging was too strong for him to believe that he really meant to be there.
Revan. The single word response looped Maxem back into the present moment and he tried to commit it to memory but as he turned his attention back to the new man his nose twitched as he took in his scent, nothing on it screamed back or even the scent of another wolf, signaling to him that this man had to be a loner, or maybe, part of that new guild he had heard whispers and speculation about, not that he really understood its purpose or what it exactly was.
With the silence hanging between them Maxem shifted from one paw to the other, causing the branch below him to creak with uncertainty. His ears perked but it was no no avail, in the moment he was about to move back, closer to the trunk of the tree where the limb was thicker it had decided to give way with a crack that seemed to echo. Maxem's eyes widened at the sudden feeling of nothing under his paws, his brain registering only the thought of 'oh shit' before he was falling towards the ground, body knocking against lower branches, slowing his speed but not enough to keep him from landing on his side with a thump, knocking the wind out of his chest and what-if any sense he had-out of his skull, leaving him laying there as he tried to regain himself on solid ground.

[googlefont=Cinzel Decorative] REVAN Sun won't shine down here in this valley And gaze on he did, still hoping that this Maximus fellow would either carry on the conversation himself or leave. Preferably the latter, to Revan. But after a minute of basically staring, he did notice that the fellow seemed lost in his thoughts. Something Revan could at least relate to, but did he really have to do his brooding here? In Revan's brooding bubble? Red eyes squinted if just slightly, almost as if trying to read the lad's head to figure out if his thoughts were even worth trying to understand. Probably just picturing himself as some heroic tree hugger for his pack, and--
A creak. Revan's eyes dropped to the branch below Maximillion just in time to catch it bending and splintering beneath him, and to no surprise of his own, snapping under the weight of wolf. Sharp brows raised with widened eyes as Revan simply watched the man fall and bounce from limb to limb like a squishy ping-pong ball, eventually landing with a dull thud. Huh... he wasn't quite sure what to make of this, but one thing he was sure of? It was fucking hilarious!
"Hah!" The dark man guffawed, a sharp, derisive sound. He lowered himself back down to his stomach, once more comfortable with having the high ground over this stranger, and gazed down at the man with an amused, toothy smirk. A royal looking down on a peasant jester. "Tell me, Maxon, how did the ground taste?" He taunted with a flick of his rust-tipped tail. Perhaps any other wolf would leap down to make sure the guy was okay, at least, and not impaled by some branch in his fall. But, Revan was not any other wolf. He was an entire asshole, and all he could see was an unfortunate fool. Could he be blamed for at least getting a chuckle out of it?

I know I always come and go For a second Maxem laid on the ground, his chest heaving as it struggled to take in air, it scared him for a second that he may have broken a bone but as he felt his chest inflate he was sure he was going to be fine. Now as for the taste coating his mouth? His lips peeled back as he lifted his head, tongue scraping at what dirt had managed its way in before spitting it out with a hacking cough which, of course, made his chest burn with more pain.
"Maxem," he responded, "I wish my parents had named me Maxon, that sounds like a real name." He said with a huff, trying to get the last of the rotting taste out of his mouth. Besides his lack of talent he had been teased relentlessly for a 'weird' name like his but he did his best to ignore it like the rest of their jabs because, really, what could go wrong if you bottled up every negative emotion?
"The ground tastes like dirty plant." He responded, pushing himself up so he was sitting, craning his head back to look at that red toned wolf, "hope you enjoy the view from up there Reeevan." He made sure to drag out the e, eyes narrowing but glinting with playfulness.

[googlefont=Cinzel Decorative] REVAN Sun won't shine down here in this valley That amused smirk fell to a more neutral frown as the clumsy fool corrected his name. Typical on his behalf, and it just reminded him how his memories were always slipping from his grasp. Recent and minial ones more than anything. But this also confused him. Maxon– no, Maxem wasn't pleased with his name. Why? Was it not a real name? Either way, it couldn't be that difficult to resolve. "Why do you not change it, then?" Revan asked as if it was the simplest and most obvious thing. Maxem is his own man, he assumed, so surely he could change anything about himself at his will.
Dirt tastes like dirty plants. "Shocking." Revan deadpanned. He watched as Maxem sat up from a fit of coughing, before drawing his pointed ears back at the strange drawl of his name. Was he making fun of his poor memory? Revan wasn't sure how to take that, but if he knew one thing, it was that he wouldn't bow to any teasing. "Yes, I always enjoy looking down at those beneath me, Manson." The dark man retorted. Perhaps sounding like an insult, but his tone lacked the acidity that would usually come with one. This was, as far as strangers go, the most lighthearted his grave voice could sound.

I know I always come and go Maxem's head tilted when he asked about him changing his name. That wasn't a norm that he knew of, or even an option he had considered. He was already the odd one out of his pack and he didn't need to separate himself more. "Change it? That's not something I think my pack would condone, I don't need to be more of a pariah." He scoffed, not wanting to think more about how...different he was.
"Apparently not too shocking since you're the one who asked," the earthy wolf quipped back to the one above him, eyes narrowing but there was still a playfulness glinting behind them, more alight when this Revan character continued with this misnaming game. At least he assumed all of this was being done on his part intentionally. "Well Rueben you have to come down eventually and we'll be on equal ground...unless..." He looked up at the tree he had fallen from, either he didn't learn from his lessons or he was a gluten for punishment as he leapt up to the nearest branch determined to see how high he could go...even though he risked falling again but he hadn't broken anything...yet...and wasn't going to stop.

[googlefont=Cinzel Decorative] REVAN Sun won't shine down here in this valley Revan, being an intellectual, always did appreciate the use of new or uncommon words, finding them both beautiful and refreshing. Pariah was one of them, and he hummed to himself more than anything upon hearing it. Perhaps this fellow was more intelligent than he looked. And that was saying something because from Revan's view, he really did not look it. Although, the appreciation of the word didn't keep the carnelian man from thinking about what Marshall had actually said. "It must be quite a draconian pack if they deny you the rights to your own identity." He didn't hesitate at all to speak his mind, but his tone remained unimpressed. He would waste no time in being defensive over some clumsy stranger. His name was his choice, as long as he didn't whine about it.
Ruby eyes blinded beneath a furrowed brow. This time the man's teasing flew right over Revan's head - an impressive feat considering the height that he held over him at the moment. "I was being sarcastic." He corrected flatly. He thought he had made that quite clear, but perhaps his sullen voice had failed to relay the message. Hmph, no matter.
"Rueben--?" Revan repeated with a twisted expression of disbelief. He tossed his head with a roll of his sharp eyes, scoffing at the absurdity. His inability to remember names was always bothersome to him, but he had rarely had it turned back on him like this as if it was some intentional joke. Well, two could play at that game. "Doubtful. You appear quite puny in comparison, Marvin. I don't believe we would ever be on level ground--" Wait, what was this idiot doing now? Revan watched incredulously as the earthy man, yet again, set to climb the nearest tree. Well, perhaps he had been too quick to judge the fool as an intellectual. "Your mother must have dropped you from a tree as a child."
