The effort required to descend the mountain in this state was significant for Hawk; and undoubtedly even greater for his packmate, such that the ghost was thoroughly impressed and truly inspired by the willpower demonstrated by the injured man. The process of aiding him was cumbersome, awkward, and time-consuming. By the time they had managed to descent from the mountain peak, the light of day was beginning to wane. Although not as nice as it would’ve been, the view of the setting sun was still nothing short of magnificent, the sky beginning to morph from aquatic blue to various shades of pink and red. He made a point during their descent to glance to it as often as possible, still as mesmerized by it as he’d been the first time he’d seen it.
Upon reaching more level terrain, Hawk opted to step away from his companion slightly, as it didn’t seem his assistance was needed quite as much. He made sure to keep a close eye out though, and did not miss the assuring smile that crossed the other’s countenance upon the ghost posing his question. He did not learn conclusively one way or the other, if Maxem had known his name, at first. But it was good, at last, to finally know who he’d been aiding this entire time. The other offered a small bow to go along with his introduction, a gesture which Hawk often used himself, and mirrored. ”It is good to meet you too, Maxem, though I wish it’d been under better circumstances.”
Maxem was certainly correct in his take, even admitting that there were still several wolves he didn’t know, although it did little to actually ease the pang of guilt Hawk felt at that. It felt especially important, as a Knight, to know all of these things, and he made a silent promise to himself to do better. Perhaps he needed to spend less time patrolling, and more time socializing.
”I believe, unfortunately, you are correct. It’s.. easy to get so wrapped up in our jobs, that we forget the true purpose behind them.” Which was supposed to be, as Maxem had stated, all about the familial aspect at the end of the day. Tilting his head slightly, he posed a subsequent inquiry. ”What is it that you do for us, Maxem? Are you a Rook?” At this point, his lack of knowledge had been made clear, but he could at least hope to make up for it a bit by getting to know Maxem, now. He seemed like an amiable fellow, the sort Hawk would have enjoyed conversing and interacting with under ordinary circumstances as well.
”Hopefully, Athena won’t be too hard to find. Most everyone should be.. going back to the dens or settling in by now.” Hawk spoke in an attempt to remain hopeful. His packmate looked utterly exhausted and probably desired nothing more than to sit down and rest for a long while. They weren’t too far away either, themselves, and the journeying was much easier now. Even if he ended up having to go fetch Athena himself, though, Hawk hoped his companion could manage long enough to arrive at a decent shelter. Better yet, make it back to the main caves, for the ghost still did not desire to leave the other if he didn’t have to.

Maxem
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo
Once Hawk stepped away, Maxim stumbled a bit but caught himself, seeming to catch a second wind of energy that allowed him to keep himself up right. There was still a slow burn in his injured leg but his lungs didn't feel as labored in their breathing efforts. He focused on keeping himself up right though his ears were still perked in the direction of his savior as he spoke. It was a bit reassuring to hear another agree with him on his thoughts of how easy it is to over look the others.
The Vertok always seemed busy. Each wolf with their own goals and work to do in their positions that it was easy to forget that they were supposed to be family, and with such strict ranks sometimes wolves thought themselves better than the others just because they were lucky enough to have useful skills. It almost seemed like their pack was a machine rather than what a pack was supposed to be. Just thinking about it made his head-and his heart hurt, but what could he expect? His own lack of talents is what drove his immediate family to look down on him as if he was a burden than a brother or a son.
He paused at Hawks question about his rank before shaking his head, "No, I am a Pawn," he said, figuring that after this Hark wouldn't want anything to do with him but then again, Hawk-despite the name-seemed rather down to earth than other wolves of their generation, "but I do help scout for hunts, but that's it. I'm not strong enough to take down prey." If he put himself down then no one else could. There was no use in making himself seem more important than he was.
At the mention of Athena he wracked his brain of what he knew about the female. "She's usually the last one to turn in, she takes her time making sure that everyone is accounted for." He said, wondering if she was already looking for them.
When it comes to bringing in Athena I'll probably just include her in my posts for Maxem, so I don't have to post multiple times in a row.

Maxem gave his head a slight shake before replying to the inquiry about his rank, and what he said came as a bit of a surprise. His packmate was a Pawn? The ghost found that a bit difficult to comprehend. Certainly, he did not believe there was anything wrong with that; there were lots of Pawns, all of them useful and important to the Vertok in some way. Or so Hawk believed, anyway.
In the case of Maxem, though, for the brief time he’d had to observe the other before the situation had gone awry, Hawk had been impressed by the fluidity and agility present in the other’s movements. His build was definitely suited for that of a Rook, trim and quick. He’d just had one unfortunate misstep. Maxem added that he did help scout before hunts, but that he wasn’t strong enough to take down prey.
”I see. Scouting is important work, and you deserve thanks for your aid in feeding all of us.” Hawk wondered how many times he had benefitted from the actions of his companion, how many meals he’d shared with the others, not knowing Maxem had a role in obtaining it, too. He was going to have to do better in paying attention to others.
”No one of us is enough, on our own, for the larger prey. But.. I think, you’re more talented than perhaps you know. I saw how you moved on those mountains. With a little.. conditioning, you could be working with the hunters before long,” the ghost offered, hoping to provide some sort of encouragement for his packmate. Maxem clearly didn’t need training. He already had the natural abilities of a scout, and the build to let him run and chase things more easily than Hawk ever could, even with the training he’d had since birth. With a little bit of work to refine those skills and build a bit of strength, Maxem could easily be an effective hunter.
As for Athena, though, his companion stated that she was usually late to turn in, taking the time to account for everyone before she did. Hawk hadn’t known that, but he could believe it. Such was a duty he eventually hoped to establish for himself, too. ”Perhaps she’ll find us before we get back, then,” the ghost mused aloud. Maxem seemed somewhat familiar with the stoic Knight, and Hawk couldn’t help wondering if there was anything between the two. He would not pry when it came to that, though.
--I don't blame you there, sounds fine!

Maxem
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo
Maxem was taken aback for a moment and how positive Hawk was about his revealing of rank. At first he had paused, which made Maxem nervous. He was ready for some kind of scoff or excuse for Hawk to leave, but instead he thanked him. Maxem stared at him for a moment, wondering he he was imaging this whole thing. He often felt overlooked for his task, many rushing past him to thank the hunters, not seeing Maxem as anything necessary, writing him off as having given this task just to keep him out of the way. He was at a loss for words from Hawks thanks and praise that for a moment he was silent, then it clicked to him that he should speak.
He cleared his throat. "You think that if I train I can be like one of the hunters?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "When I was young my Dad tried to teach me, but I couldn't keep up. I always get tired." He glanced down for a moment. "I try to run as fast as a I can but I always run out of steam and my Dad got impatient, I tried an apprenticeship but that didn't pan out either." He shrugged a little. Before he could respond to Hawk about Athena a voice spoke from behind them.
"Of course I'd find you, a blind pup would be able to follow your steps." A teasing voice said as a silky grey wolf, like smoke, came from between some trees, though the didn't come too close to the boys, raising a brow when she saw Maxem leg pulled up against his belly. "Oi, what happened to you Maxem?" She asked, wondering what kind of trouble he could have gotten in that brought about Hawk to be his aid. She turned her gaze to the other male, figuring Maxem would come up with some kind of fib to make himself look better.

There were a few moments of silence, where a slightly bewildered-looking Maxem just seemed to stare back at him. Hawk wondered, at that, how often the darker male was given any kind of thanks, compliments, or gratitude for his skills and services. If Hawk was to take the blank look as an indicator, it would appear the answer to his question was not often enough, and that would be shameful if it were true. He sincerely hoped it wasn’t.
When Maxem did speak again, it was to ask a question, one the ghost nodded in response to without hesitation. ”I do,” he affirmed, harboring a sincere belief in that. Hawk listened attentively as Maxem elaborated, finding his expression morphing into a bit of a troubled frown. His father had gotten impatient? That, too, sounded like an incredibly sad and shameful thing. The ghost almost could not comprehend it, raised as he’d been. His parents had been nothing except patient and supportive of he and his sisters. Even in things that hadn’t worked out, he couldn’t recall his parents ever getting impatient with them; rather, simply guiding them in another direction.
Hawk blinked, tipping his head slightly. ”Perhaps... if you practice, don’t run as fast as you can. Set yourself at a steady pace. With dedication and practice, speed and stamina will come,” he spoke, sucking in a contemplative breath. He was prepared to continue, but a different voice beat him to it. A familiar one, at that. What was wholly unfamiliar, was the facetious edge to it.
Hawk’s brows rose in surprise at that, quickly turning about to spot the smoky grey Athena sauntering towards them. Her steps were quiet, graceful - and the opposite of his, apparently. He’d never known her to be a provocateur, even in jest, but at that, he felt one corner of his mouth pull upwards into a slight smile. ”A blind pup,” Hawk repeated contemplatively, sorely tempted to reply with some kind of joke, about how maybe he was big and kind of loud but he was all muscle, though ultimately he decided against it. Such things never seemed to go smoothly for him anyway, so he settled for a soft, ”Huh.”
The bit of humor did not last long, though, as Athena dutifully inquired about their injured companion. Her gaze lingered on Maxem for a bit, but ultimately settled on him. Casting a quick glance towards the other, he then shrugged. ”A hunting accident. His leg got caught between some rocks. We were hoping you.. might be able to help, see what’s wrong with it.” Discreetly, Hawk almost added, but he was fairly certain based on earlier conversation, that the smoky female would already know that. There didn’t seem to be any use in deceiving her, anyway.
For some reason, he was pretty sure Athena would see right through that.
—- I did not expect that quip from Athena at all. That was good!

Maxem
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo
Maxem was about to blurt out some kind of excuse when Hawk came in. He came up with a way better excuse than what he could have thought of though under Athena's scrutinizing gaze he began to wonder if maybe even Hawk couldn't fool the smokey woman. He started to feel a little antsy as her calculating gaze swept between the two until giving a nod.
"That's unfortunate." She mused, it did seem likely of Maxem to try to go off on his own in order to try to prove himself through some kind of showing off method. "And you want no one else to know about it, which means Hawk here can be deemed a friend." She said, under regular circumstance she couldn't think of a way for the two of these boys to have a reason to interact with each other. She didn't know Hawk well, but had heard of his serious ways and Maxem, she had practically grown up with him. As pups they would sneak off and play games with the others-until her father would get mad and drag her back to his brainwashing trainings. If only then she had known what she did now. Maybe she could have saved her brother from their fathers poisonous ideas.
"I swear Maxem, sometimes you make me think that I should have became a Bishop." She said, her tone turning teasing as a smile pulled at her coal like lips and looked to Hawk, her solemn expression softening a bit. "Thank you for helping him." She said, not wanting to think of what could have happened if Maxem hadn't gotten some help. "You are free to join us with the healing process or you can go on your way." She said to Hawk, though her voice was calm, she wouldn't mind if the ghost decided to come or not.
Maxem looked over at Hawk. "Don't feel obligated to come along, you've done a lot for me already." He said with a smile.

Athena seemed to study the two of them for a few moments, and when she did respond, it was in a rather deadpan tone. The situation had been unfortunate, but the way she said it, almost made it seem like it wasn’t a surprise. What was spoken next caught the ghost even more off guard, a brow shooting up at that. While the first part wasn’t particularly surprising - the grey Knight was fully aware of Maxem’s desire for discretion, the latter part was. He could be considered a friend?
Not quite sure what to say, Hawk simply issued a nod at that, happy to be labeled a friend - though it further concerned him for Maxem. Such a statement also seemed to confirm that the pawn did not have many friends amongst the pack, which was truly shameful, and it seemed like something that needed to be addressed.
He flicked an ear at the next statement, Athena mused that she should’ve become a Bishop rather than a Knight. Between the teasing remarks and everything else, it was certainly starting to seem like these two knew one another better than he’d realized, and it made him wonder again if there was something more than just friendship between them. They did seem closer than that.
He did not have long to contemplate the subject though, for at the spoken thanks, Hawk offered a humble bow. ”I am glad I could help. I.. would like to stay with you both a while, in case there’s something I can do, something you need, or maybe just to learn a little. But, uh..” he trailed off for a moment, resisting the urge to look down at his paws while preparing to speak on the incredibly awkward subject.
”I also.. don’t want to.. um, intrude. You know, if you two would prefer to be left.. alone,” he finished awkwardly. If the two were close like he thought, perhaps they would prefer time to themselves, away from everyone? The ghost did not want to go along with them if they really just wanted to be left alone, but were too polite to say something.
--c: it was good! Please forgive Hawk’s cluelessness regarding relationships too

Maxem
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo
At Hawks mentioning of the two of them wanting to be left alone both wolves had very different thoughts. Maxem, on one hand, didn't see a problem with all three of them hanging out. Sure he was still going to be embarrassed by his unlucky fate but to him, he was just happy to have more than one wolf to call his friend. Athena, on the other hand, looking between herself and Maxem before looking to Hawk once again, getting the hint that he was thinking of something happening between herself and Maxem-something that was almost laughable to her. Maxem was like a little brother-and it was nice to have one brother she knew wouldn't try to kill her.
"Of course you can come Hawk." Maxem said before Athena could speak, his tail swinging behind him lazily. He was starting to feel more comfortable around his ghostly companion, though having Athena here-and not hating Hawk-helped that. She was his pillar of strength and support. She was a great friend.
Before Hawk could respond Maxem walked away, though he didn't head for the caves, he went back into the forest.
Athena took the brief moment of she and Hawk being alone to step closer to him, tilting her head as she analyzed him. "You can come, Maxem likes you, which means a lot. He may be goofy but he doesn't trust many, so if he trusts you then I do. Though I won't let anyone hurt my friend. He's dealt with others that don't deserve his love and loyalty." The smoky wolf paused for a moment. "He's the best friend a wolf could have, trust me on that." A slight smile pulled at her maw. "So get used to it, he tends to get stuck to you like glue." There was a glint of laughter behind her eyes before she turned and trotted after Maxem, though paused at the forest edge, casting a look at Hawk before slipping between the brush and heading deeper into the forest, but it wasn't far before the trees thinned into a small clearing where Maxem has laid down next to a moss covered log, tilting his head back against the bark-it was starting to grow soft from age and moisture.
Lol I like his cluelessness, it makes things fun!
I know I always come and go But it's out of my control

Maxem was rather quick to respond, inviting the ghost along seemingly without a second thought. Hawk nodded to that, determining the words and expressions of the other to be genuine, though his fellow Knight regarded him with a gaze that was more analytical and dissecting, and it appeared as if she had some idea of where his thoughts had been. Athena remained as Maxem turned away from them, heading not towards the caves, but in a different direction altogether - deeper into the forest.
Once he’d disappeared, Athena remained and offered some clarifying - as well as sobering words. The two were just friends, but close ones, at that. The ghost could not keep himself from looking dismayed as Maxem’s situation was further elaborated on, and he did not bother to try to disguise the troubled frown that crossed his face since the wolf in question was no longer in the immediate area. ”Thank you, Miss Athena,” he murmured, nodding contemplatively as the implications of what’d been revealed turned over in his mind.
”Hurting Maxem is the last thing I’d ever want to do, or see happen. You don’t need to worry about that, I promise you.” The ghost spoke with certainty, formulating his words with care as the two of them turned to trot after their companion. It was both concerning and frustrating to think that Maxem had been hurt, quite likely by members of their own pack. The Vertok were supposed to be better than that. Someone needed to put a stop to it...
The fact that each of them trusted him meant a lot to the ghost as well, and it was not something he ever intended to betray. It didn’t take the two of them long to find Maxem, resting in a slight clearing, against a mossy fallen tree. He looked far more at peace than Hawk had seen thus far, and a quick glance around revealed the three of them were pretty much alone. Even so, the ghost took it upon himself to circle the clearing once, just to make sure of it.
He trusted that Maxem or Athena would call out to him if they needed anything. Otherwise, he would just be content to sit back and observe.

Athena
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo Athena took gentle steps around Maxem, lowering her head and reached out with a paw, hooking it around his injured limb and pulled and pushed on it. Every movement making him grunt as pain shot from the injured limb. She observed each reaction and kept prodding, even though Maxem was starting to protest.
"Hush, unless you want to run around with only three legs." Athena huffed at him. Though her words seemed to help for the brown male fell silent, squeezing his eyes closed. "Seems sprained, thankfully nothing more." She said, casting a look to Hawk. "You're going to have to talk it easy Maxem, there isn't much I can do, I can give you some herbs for pain relief but it'll make you sleepy." She explained, poking her head into the log that her companion was laying against, the inside hollow and packed with the girls only supply of medicinal herbs, she didn't like taking from the Bishops-they were always so nosey about what she needed them for. As she pulled out herbs she got suspicious of Maxem's silence-it was a rarity, then a snore reached her ears. Of course, she shook her head and focused on picking the right herbs and mashing them together with her paws.
"Of course he would choose now to fall asleep." She said dryly, turning her gaze back to Hawk. "Though I suppose he's had a long day. Are you hurt at all?" She asked.
Figured I'd watch over to Athena for a bit ^^

Once the ghost was satisfied that the immediate area was in fact clear, he returned his focus and gaze to the others, to find Athena carefully massaging and prodding at Maxem’s injured limb. He studied the action carefully, although he didn’t really have any idea what she was doing. Was that supposed to make the limb feel better, or just to diagnose the injury? He would’ve liked to ask, but opted against it for the moment.
Maxem bit back grunts of protest as, although he fell silent as Athena admonished him, though shortly thereafter stating that the limb only appeared to be sprained. ”That’s good to know,” Hawk murmured, daring to venture a few steps closer to his companions, at that. There wasn’t really anything that could be done for a sprained limb aside from resting and herbs for pain, though, he did know that much. At least the recovery time would be much shorter than if the limb had been fractured or broken.
Athena took a moment to reach in and grab at some herbs she’d had stored away in a hollowed out portion of the log, an action that prompted a curious arching of one brow. Maxem, though, had managed to fall into slumber without the herbs, an indication of just how tired he’d been. He did look far more content, now, Hawk noted - glad now that he was here to watch over his resting packmate. After what he’d learned, the ghost decided he would not venture far from Maxem, until the other man had recovered.
Hawk let out a soft snort of amusement at the comment made by Athena, glancing to the grey female while he settled himself down upon the ground. ”I am fine, but thank you for asking,” he commented, noting that whatever had been going on with his shoulder seemed to have mostly faded. It was a bit stiff, but nothing he couldn’t deal with.
”Is this.. something you do often?” He questioned gently, gesturing with his nose to the log, and then the herbs Athena had in her possession. If she’d had them ready he had to assume so - though perhaps the smoky female just preferred to be prepared.

Athena
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo "Good, I don't think I have enough herbs for another clumsy wolf." She teased, allowing herself to smile once the task at hand was finished. She had her answers as to what was wrong with Maxem and didn't feel it necessary to worry, unless his leg got worse for some reason, she wasn't going to burden her brain with worry that wasn't warranted. She sat back on her haunches, tail sweeping around to cover her toes as Hawk spoke.
Her gaze flickered to his, holding for a few seconds before drifting up to the sky, watching as the tree branches bounced slightly in the light breeze. "Well, growing up my father had us spar and he didn't want us to rely on anyone else to take care of us, so I learned some basic healing skills." She said, her voice dropping slightly and the mention of her ostracized father and brother. Her heart burned with a slow anger as their faces conjured before her eyes. All she could see was the hatred in their eyes when they had tried to dispatch her to her mother in the great beyond. "I wanted to be a Bishop," she added with a wry smile, "but that wasn't an option, so I took whatever excuse that I could to continue my education."
"Then," she briefly looked back to Maxem before looking back to Hawk, "I met that dork and he gets hurt more than a pup learning to hunt." She joked, though her claws flexed down into the dirt. "And I guess we both needed a friend." She said a bit somberly, thinking of all the harsh words she had heard their pack mates say about Maxem. It made her want to rip out a throat or two, but there was no use on turning on each other, all she could do was support her friend.
Athena went silent for a moment, ears pricked forward, listening as the brush rustled before slowly laying down. "I like being out here anyway, the caves make me feel a bit claustrophobic."
But you see, it's not me, it's not my family In your head, in your head, they are fightin'

Athena seemed like the sort that, like himself, tended to keep her emotions and expressions in check. So to earn another wry smile, along with more good-natured teasing, was probably a rare event. Hawk blinked again, opting to respond this time, where previously he had not. ”I’m big, and my steps are loud. But I.. might surprise you.” Now, he surely did not have the potential to be as agile as someone like Athena or Maxem. But training had done wonders, providing the ghost to at least move with sure-footed confidence through most of the lands he encountered.
The other adopted a seated position, explaining that her father had us - he wondered who that meant, aside from Athena - spar a lot. And he hadn’t wanted them relying on anyone else. Certainly an advocate of learning and independence, Hawk nodded, deciding that all sounded quite sensible. Athena’s mindset was, too. In spite of being unable to, for whatever reason, pursue the role of a Bishop, she’d continued to learn. ”That’s clever of you to do. Your family sounds like the sensible sort. Are they still around?”
It seemed the most logical question to propose next in the progression of things, the ghost being completely unaware of the stigma surrounding such a topic. He might’ve met them, and it would be nice to know if he had.
A soft chortle of amusement escaped him at the next comment, though Hawk was indeed quite glad nothing too serious had occurred, today. Athena tacked on a slightly melancholy-sounding comment towards the end there, prompting the ghost to tip his head slightly. ”One good friend, I think, is worth more than a hundred fake ones. And I hope, between us, we can help him have something better.” He certainly wanted to help Maxem, whatever it took. Undoubtedly, Athena did too, and that meant something.
There was a slight rustling in the underbrush that caught the attention of both Knights, although a quick scan didn’t reveal anything out of place. A glance back to Athena revealed she’d settled herself down too. The caves evidently made her feel closed in, as well. Hawk nodded his agreement to the expressed sentiment. ”I came from a place that was mostly.. open fields and plains. Not like this at all, so I.. understand that feeling. It serves its purpose but, I think I’d rather be.. outside, as much as possible.”
Unless maybe there was a blizzard or a storm, or if he was worried about some kind of threat invading while the pack slept. The former was when he liked the caves, though his family had survived such things back home, with far less. The shelter was like another luxury he enjoyed sometimes but didn’t want to grow terribly accustomed to. The possibility of growing too cozy in there, and thus becoming lazy or soft, was also something to be avoided.

Athena
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo "I'm big and my steps are loud. But I..might surprise you" His words made her smile a little, it was a good reminder to expect the unexpected and she was glad that he could take a joke. In her younger years when she tried to joke around and have fun she was often met with the snap of teeth and a terse response threatening a fight. She had learned back then to keep her remarks to herself, though now she was letting a little bit of humor slip out here and there.
Her family. She wanted to laugh. Those brutes weren't her family, they were evil. She still thought of the chance of seeing her father and brother again. She imagined exacting her revenge-until she remembered that wouldn't change a thing, though her rage roared at her for the spilling of their blood. "Oh, they are far from sensible." She said, casting a glance at him. She was a bit relieved that he didn't know the story, so many didn't trust her because of it-even though she was a victim. "But yes, they're still around, though not in this pack anymore."
She listened to Hawk speak, nodding about his comment on friendship, she agreed whole heartedly. At the rustling she looked around, tensing for battle but when nothing else came she settled, tiredness creeping over her mind and she couldn't help but yawn. "Maybe Maxem has the right idea to sleep right now, I do feel a bit worn out myself, even though I didn't have such an adventurous day like yours." She said, "I'll sleep out here tonight, I doubt there will be any threats ad this space is much more comfortable than those stone slabs we have to sleep on in the caves and besides, with everyone's snores echoing in those caves it's near impossible to get some good rest." Athena said and rested her head on her paws. "Will you be staying out here with us or will you venture into the caves?" She asked, though part of her hoped he would remain under the stars with them, it was nice to have extra company.
But you see, it's not me, it's not my family In your head, in your head, they are fightin'

Although no further words were exchanged after the joke, the two of them shared a smile, and in that short moment, the ghost’s thoughts wandered a bit. Athena was indeed a very pretty individual, that he was already intrigued by. Her name even, sounded nice in his mind. A part of Hawk wished he’d inherited more of that outgoing side from his father so that he might’ve been able to make some kind of comment on it, and do so in a way that didn’t sound awkward or misplaced. But he hadn’t, and he certainly didn’t need to risk looking like a fool, so that was that.
Soon enough, anyway, the nature of the conversation shifted from light-hearted to something far less pleasant. There seemed a hint of resentment there, as Athena spoke of her family again, claiming they were anything but sensible. Her curt glance toward him further suggested anger and a particular sensitivity surrounding the topic - and though he was indeed curious to know more - such as why they were no longer in the pack, he did not intend to pry.
”I see. I’m.. uh, sorry.” Hawk offered, for whatever good it would do. The two of them certainly agreed as it pertained to Maxem and the topic of friendship though, and shortly thereafter Athena proclaimed herself tired, too. Hawk couldn’t bite back one final soft chuckle at the snoring bit, something he’d noticed before but wasn’t sure he’d been particularly bothered by. If anything, it’d been one of the more comforting factors, to know he was with so many others. Especially on the days when he found himself missing his family - but maybe, knowing these two now, would help with that.
”I’ll stay with you two, I think. If you’d like to rest, I.. can keep watch for a while, just to make sure it’s safe.” Here in the heart of Vertok territory, Hawk was all but sure his pack-mate would be correct. He very much doubted there would be any threats, but it was in his nature to make absolutely certain of that. Perhaps one more quick patrol around the area, once Athena had fallen asleep, would do.
