Maxem
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo
Another hunt down for the books, it wasn't too complicated, the herd of deer were more like sitting ducks and took only a matter of minutes for the hunters to take one down while Maxem stayed back in the shadows to watch, wishing he was strong enough to really help. Sure he helped by tracking down the herd, but anyone could do that, sometimes he felt like he was kept around just for the humor. He had tried to help prepare their bounty to take back to the main pack grounds but had been shooed off as if he was nothing. He had slunk off, tail low to the ground. They're only nice when they need something, other than that I'm useless. The thoughts made him sigh. Not even his own siblings, no grown, hardly acknowledged him. The dirty brown male had no true friends, just those who tolerated him and it wasn't like he could change anything. There was no way he could leave the pack and survive or find another group that would value him. His home was the mountains and to be part of them he had to remain a Vertok.
The soft grass of the forest floor turned hard as rocks became more abundant. The trees thinned as the foot of the mountain got closer. Maxem leapt up onto the nearest out cropping of rocks and made his way up. He took his time, the small rocks sliding under his weight, some with sharp edges that bit into his paw pads, but he pressed on, knowing that soon these tiny stones would give way to sturdier boulders. Not many wolves used this way to make it up the mountains, many stuck to the dirt and moss coated paths, but to be able to get the best view and find the best prey, this rough path was best. The mountain goats thrived here due to the pack not being able to make their way up and run as smooth as they could. Sometimes they were lucky and took down goat, but Maxem knew that if the pack could regain their comfort on the rough rocks like he had they could take down numerous goats and give the deer population a break. It had been getting harder to spot the deer as they moved from place to place but no one would listen to him for what did he know? His only job was to find the prey and lead them to it, nothing else. His opinion didn't matter. Sometimes it seemed like they forgot the goats existed at all, so maybe if he could bring one down he could convince them that further exploring the mountains was useful. Their ancestors use to do it, so why couldn't they now?
As he thought he continued to move upwards, the rocks smoothing away and giving better space for his paws to fit when a braying rang out from above, jerking the somber male from his thoughts. He looked up and standing on the ridge line was a single mountain goat, traversing with its back to Maxem. His ears threw forward and it was only seconds for him to make a decision. It was like the fates had aligned for this. With a push from his hind legs the thin male propelled himself upwards, claws digging into the rocks as he made chase for the goat. Hearing the claws scrape on rock made the goat panic, leaping away from the predator but Maxem was just as fast with a burst of energy. He was a few feet away from the goats hind quarters and he made a leap for it, though he could feel his muscles start to protest. At this time the rocks under him shifted and the loss of stability threw him forward at an awkward angle. He fell to the rocks, claws inches from the goat and was on his side, sliding down the rocks that gave way. Panic seized his heart as he scrabbled for something to catch onto but it seemed something caught him.
Pain radiated from his front right paw, having been caught in a gap between two large rocks and trapping it there, forcing his body to come to a stop. He tried with what might remained to stand but the rocks were more like gravel and kept giving away, forcing him to lay on his side, panting as his trapped paw throbbed. He pulled up his hind legs, trying to dig them in to support him but it was hard and they started to shake. He was stuck laying on his side with his hand legs gathered onto him. This was it. He wasn't strong enough to pull himself out, his pack would never find him here, maybe years from now his skeleton would be here, bleached by the sun, and someone would find it but have no idea who the remains belonged to. He released a shaky breath. "Idiot," he muttered between huffs, "of course I can't do anything right."
I know I always come and go But it's out of my control

Today had, so far, been rather decent and productive in nature. He had heard that the hunters had also been successful, and had witnessed a group of them heading back toward camp with a deer in their possession. It appeared many would eat well, tonight. Early patrols had also gone well, with all reports - at least that he was aware of - coming back favorable. Very little signs of activity had been present along the borders, which was encouraging as well as relieving.
As such, he had chosen to venture away from camp for a time, free of duties for now, unless he chose to travel along with an evening patrol later on. His free time was most often spent exploring or wandering, with the purpose of familiarizing himself with the land as much as he could. By default, almost, his paws had carried him upwards along an established but slightly less familiar path, higher into the mountains. The view from above the treeline was something he had yet to grow tired of, and he found himself pausing sporadically to admire it. Although he was not the most nimble of wolves, and navigating the mountains at times proved tricky, he was getting better at it. It would be a long time before he felt brave enough to go chasing after the mountain goats, though.
A fear that appeared to be completely absent or discarded by someone else. In the distance, across a couple of ridges, he could see two distinct figures. That of a pursuer, a wolf, and its prey, a goat. The wolf ascended and traversed the rocks and ridges with a sense of ease that he almost envied. Although Hawk noted oddly, that the individual appeared to be alone. Tracing back over the path he’d seen the wolf come from, he wondered where the other hunters were. His gaze faltered for just a moment and by the time he looked back up, the situation had changed drastically. The wolf must’ve taken a wrong step, or had the ground give way beneath them, for the figure was suddenly on its side, sliding precariously down the rocky slope.
Alarm and dismay set in, for though he immediately launched forth as quickly as he dared, he doubted he would’ve been able to reach the other in time even if he'd been on level ground. Panic started to set in; he was powerless, and perhaps was about to witness something terrible today. Thankfully, by the grace of someone or something, however, one of the wolf’s limbs abruptly became wedged between two stones, bringing the slipping figure to an abrupt and probably painful halt. Hawk let out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding, silently thanking the spirits above for it. The other was still very much alive, struggling, and unable, it seemed, to pull free of his current entrapment.
Sucking in another breath, he called out. ”Hey, it’s alright, I’m coming! Help is coming.” With as much speed as he could, not wanting to become a casualty himself, Hawk continued closing the distance between himself and the other. ”Are you alright, or does it feel like anything is broken?” Broken limbs or ribs could.. complicate things. Hawk wasn’t really sure if or how he could get the other back to the camp in that case, not.. without help, anyway. The first priority though was to get the poor guy unstuck and off that ledge.

Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo The muscles in his thighs began to tremble and shake as his claws tried to dig deeper into the rocky terrain but kept slipping. His trapped paw and leg were starting to burn, making tears threaten to fall from his eyes. The pain was starting to overpower all of his senses. How could I be so dumb? Oh easy, I am dumb. Not worth anything. Nothing meaningful to this damn pack and I just proved that I won't be able to survive on my own even if I tried. His thoughts mingled with the pain and he resigned himself to suffer this cruel fate as if it was punishment for his failure of being a wolf. His head slumped down, adding more pressure to his trapped limb and has his neck folded it became harder to breathe, but he didn't have the energy or want to even try to do anything to save himself. He was useless. What was the point?
The longer he laid there the sharper the rocks under his side felt, digging into his flesh, seemingly taunting him more. The bleating of the goats from the other side of the ridge reinforced the feeling of failure. He could only imagine them coming to stare at his body after he died and reveling in the cruel twist of fate, but then there was a voice.
"I'm coming! Help is coming."
Someone...was...coming? He slowly lifted his head, casting a glance back as another wolf made their way up the mountain towards him. A furrow crossed his brow. A stranger wanted to save him? He wanted to tell the other to just leave him but couldn't find the words, his throat suddenly dry as the stranger grew closer. A soft wind blew up, bringing the scent of pack to his nose.
The other was soon upon him and upon closer inspection Maxem recognized him from seeing him around the pack ground, but didn't actually know who it was. Perhaps fate wasn't laughing at him or it was just being cruel. Only a stranger who didn't know him and his worthless existence would come to help.
"No-nothings broken," he said with a sharp breath, "except what little pride I have." Despite the pain a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
I know I always come and go But it's out of my control

After the fright of seeing a packmate almost fall, Hawk hoped to steady his breath before reaching the other. As scared as he’d been at the thought of what he had been about to witness, it must’ve been far worse for the other to actually experience it. For the sake of his packmate, the white male hoped to appear as calm and assured as possible. As he arrived on scene, Hawk looked over the male and his ensnared limb, attempting to assess the situation as best as he could. What had saved the other wolf from continuing his fall was in fact his front right limb, as it had gotten caught between two rocks. The male had ended up on his side in a horribly odd looking and probably painful position, unable to stand or move thanks to his trapped limb. At least, though, the male confirmed that nothing was broken. He could speak, he could breathe. Hawk also couldn’t smell blood, which seemed like a good sign.
Even more so when the other responded with what seemed to be a joke. He looked tired, and in pain, but there was a smile and some humor there. It would be kind of embarrassing, Hawk thought, to go hunting only to end up being the one that got trapped. Goodness, he hoped the goat hadn’t done that intentionally. What if the prey animals were getting smarter, collaborating against them? He couldn’t fathom the thought and didn’t want to. Instead, he offered a small, and what he hoped was a reassuring smile. ”Good. We’ll get you out of this. Nobody else has to know, either. So you can keep your pride intact.” It didn’t hurt to play along with the joke, he thought. But there was a note of seriousness there, too. Hawk wouldn’t breathe a word of this to anyone if his packmate didn’t want him to. Not unless it was absolutely necessary to treat some currently unknown injury or something.
Studying the situation, Hawk tried to think of how best to extract his comrade from his present predicament, and to do so in a timely manner. At the same time, he tried to recall the other’s name. Hawk had definitely seen him before. He made a habit out of trying to track the movements and routines of others, looking out for as many of them as he could. It felt like he should’ve known it, like the name was right there on the edge of his memory. It was going to be incredibly weird if the other guy knew his name.
For now, though, that was going to remain a secondary concern. Tentatively, Hawk tested his footing, getting as close as he could to the other whilst staying on solid ground. Given his current predicament, there didn’t appear to be much the other could do to free himself, leaving just a couple of options. ”If you agree, and when you’re ready, I’m going to grab ahold of you and see if I can lift you out of there, or at least enough to give you the leverage you need to right yourself and pull your leg out. It might hurt, and be weird, but I... uh, I can’t think of any better way than that.” It was going to be incredibly weird, to try to lift a grown wolf like a pup, by the scruff of his neck. But this guy looked like the skinnier type, not too heavy. Hawk was pretty sure it could work - and beyond that, he truly couldn’t think of any alternatives.

"We'll get you out of this. Nobody else has to know, either." Maxem took some comfort in this mans words though deep down he didn't know if he could fully trust him. He wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt at least, he had come to his aid after all even though at any moment he could leave him. The thought of being left here alone made the fear try to claw out of his chest though he fought to keep the growing panic at bay. He took deep breaths, though his lungs began to ache like the rest of his body against the strain of this unusual and painful position. He did his best to stay silent but a few soft whimpers wormed their way from him, causing him to feel like only more of a weakling.
His eyes flashed to the others paws as he moved closer. "Careful," he said with a strained voice, "this side is looser than I thought it would be, seems the heavy snowfall from early in the season really weakened it." He took a few more deep breaths. "If you start to slide, don't panic. That makes everything worse, obviously." He laughed a little, though the action made his chest burn.
Maxem went silent as the other spoke and gave the best nod that he could. "Try whatever you think will work, the last thing I need is more of the pack to see this." He said a bit ruefully. He would never live it down if everyone else found out about this. The mountains were his one safe place and even know he was starting to question how true that statement was. "But if you do end up having to get help, go straight to Athena." He added, thinking of the storm cloud grey female. She wasn't the most friendly, but she did help when needed and seemed to not judge as much as the others.

There were a few soft, but certainly, noticeable pained whines and gasps coming from the other on occasion, making it evident that his circumstance was perhaps more painful than Hawk had initially been lead to believe. The breathing of his packmate also sounded labored, and with the way his torso was positioned, one flank buried in the rocks, it was no wonder. It was good that he was talking, though - with the first bit of information provided proving quite helpful.
”Got it,” Hawk spoke, carefully adjusting his stance and making sure to avoid placing his paws where instructed. The rocks on the other side of and just above the guy seemed solid and stable, which he’d need to hoist the male out. The other guy was right, too; the last thing he needed was to send himself, or both of them tumbling again. Once he was certain he’d gotten all four of them on solid ground, he glanced back to his packmate, who agreed to the plan as proposed.
There did indeed seem to be a note of.. was it, shame, there? Perhaps? Or hesitancy? He even went so far as to name someone he’d prefer Hawk to bring back in the event they weren’t able to do this alone. Perhaps there was more concern there than the initial wisecrack had implied. If that was the case, Athena did seem like a logical choice. She was dutiful, levelheaded, didn’t seem like the type to judge if that was a concern. Smart, too, from what he knew and had seen from working with her. She’d probably have been able to come up with a better plan to get their packmate out of here, but Hawk didn’t want to resort to leaving his comrade here unattended unless there was no other option.
”If I do, I’ll get her. Provided she’s not out on a patrol or something. But I think we can do this. Get ready.” He paused just then, taking a few deep breaths, and rolling his shoulders a few times to stretch, and in nervous anticipation. ”I apologize if I hurt you. If you want me to let go of you, just say so. On three, I guess?”

Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo
Maxem went quiet, focusing on his labored breaths though it was hard with his body begging for him to just give up and go limp, letting gravity take his life but with someone else here, he couldn't let himself give up and subject this helpful bystander to the trauma of witnessing him letting himself die. Many times these dark thoughts had entered his brain but time and time again he found a way to talk himself out of it, like now-or the multitudes of times he had convinced himself not to leave his pack.
Lost in his thoughts he almost forgot that Hawk was there until his ears twitched towards his movement on the rocks. Maxem strained his eyes to see him taking his advice and for a moment Maxem felt a twinge of happiness at someone listening to him, it made him feel just a little less worthless. He listened to Hawk, wishing he could nod along. He had a valid point, Athena could be on patrol. She always seemed busy with her work, but who could blame her? Maxem knew that keeping your mind busy often helped avoid ones problems.
"Don't worry too much about hurting me," he said in a strained voice, "I think anything is better than laying here to suffer. I'll be ready on three." He said, though really...was anything better than this Promethean fate that deep down he believed he deserved? He swore he saw a buzzard flying over head, or maybe he was hallucinating? He couldn't be sure.

The other wolf informed him not to worry too much about causing pain, which Hawk supposed was a reasonable point. Considering the amount of pain and discomfort this poor fellow was clearly already experiencing, to lift him out of there would probably alleviate more pain than what being bitten would cause. It was impossible not to notice the strained breathing and words, as gravity was clearly having an effect. Nodding to that, he sucked in a breath to aid in mental preparation. ”Alright, fair enough. Let’s do this.” He spoke, for his own benefit as well as his packmate. Goodness, Hawk hoped this was going to work, and that he didn’t end up getting the male even more stuck, or causing him greater pain. The other also agreed that they could go on three, and based on that agreement, it pretty much locked both of them into the plan.
He didn’t want to seem like he was hesitating or giving up, though, and supposed it was best to go forth while the other was still conscious and could still help himself, too. Hawk summarily leaned down to lightly, and at first tentatively, grasp a mouthful of his companion’s skin and fur, between his neck and shoulders. Once he had ensured that he’d only be grasping at and potentially biting or tearing fur and skin, rather than vital muscle or bone, he carefully tested his footing one last time before crouching, sucking in a breath.
“Aight. On three. One, two, three.” As soon as he’d finished uttering the word, against all of his instincts and ethics, Hawk bit down on the scruff of his packmate and tugged upwards. His front legs alone would not be enough to bear the weight for long, so he made an attempt to push back, attempting to shift weight distribution and use the strength in his rear limbs to pull his companion up and out. It felt like every muscle in his body strained to lift the other from his entrapment, and hopefully, it would be at least enough to let the other get his leg out.

Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo
No amount of bracing for the bite prepared Maxem. Feeling his scruff be put in another's mouth made him tense, all instincts screaming at him to lash out, bite, fight, do something but he focused on shutting those feelings away. He needed to remain calm and keep a level head- a skill he didn't have-so he focused on trying to summon all the strength he could for when the real bite and pull happened. He could hear the rocks shifting as his pack mate steadied his footing in preparation for the rescue. Maxem wished he could do more, he felt so helpless, so useless. Although, shouldn't he be used to that by now?
"Three." With every word Maxem focused on his strength, collecting whatever was left and imagining it filling his legs so he could be ready. He could feel red hot pain from his scruff but refused to let out a whimper or any sound of pain. Instead he focused on the feeling of being pulled up. His pack mate couldn't do this all by himself, Maxem had to help the best he could. As Hawk pushed back Maxem's feet scrabbled at the loose rock under him and pushed himself up. His trapped leg screamed at him as the rock scraped skin but he kept pushing and when he felt like collapsing again, his leg popped from between the rocks. The sudden loss of tension holding him down made him fall backwards against his savior, sending them both falling onto the rocks.
Maxem laid there for a moment, in shock that the plan actually worked before realizing he was practically laying on Hawk and quickly got up in a sitting position and shook his fur.
"Dang," he said with a grin, "that actually worked. Thank you! You're pretty much my hero." He said, looking to Hawk before the throbbing in his leg got his attention. He looked down at it, though his fur covered the damage. He could feel the sting of scrapes though and he hoped that even with his luck they wouldn't end up infected.

Goodness, this guy was heavier than he looked. Or perhaps he wasn’t, and Hawk had just overestimated his own ability. It did not help that instead of simply dragging the weight, he was trying to lift someone up. Although every muscle in his body burned and strained with effort, a stinging, stabbing pain that was much worse came to fruition in his neck, settling just above his shoulder blades - a likely muscle strain of sorts. But again he told himself it was nothing compared to what his packmate was enduring, so he continued. The other was also struggling, his three free limbs scrabbling at the rocks as he too fought to free himself.
Just when he started to worry that they’d never have enough strength to do it alone, and it felt like he was going to slip - suddenly, they were free - and he was falling. Thankfully though, the fall was not far, and it was on to mostly solid ground. Hawk released his grip on his packmate as soon as he was aware of it and sucked in a greedy breath through his mouth, quickly followed by another. Even after the other had risen, he remained on the ground for a moment, closing his eyes to catch his breath and silently thank the spirits above for this success. With each breath, the burning aches that had accompanied his strained efforts subsided, almost all of it except the one in his neck.
That would probably be there for a little while. A compromise Hawk was more than willing to make, though, to have freed his packmate. Once the other spoke, Hawk opened his eyes again, before slowly pushing himself up into a seated position. Although much more subdued, he was certainly just as surprised as the other appeared to be, that the plan had worked. ”Yes. Thank goodness you’re alright. Not.. a hero, though. Just doing what anyone would.”
Taking one more breath, Hawk gave himself a little shake, twisting his head back and forth, which seemed to help alleviate the lingering strain just a bit. He quickly settled on examining his companion, though. Specifically the leg, which didn’t appear to have fared too badly in the mix, and then where he’d had to bite to lift the other guy out.
”You are alright, aren’t you? Do you need.. or, uh, want, a bishop?” He questioned, studying the other with concern. Although it had seemed like the other guy hadn’t wanted anyone else to know, it still felt appropriate to ask. He’d mentioned Athena earlier, too. Hawk thought he could recall witnessing her aid the bishops on a couple of occasions before, and wondered if she still might be able to help, if the secrecy bit was truly a concern. Any kind of medicinal knowledge had to be better than his sheer lack of it. If only he’d given more time to that stuff before, but there was still room for improvement now.

"Just doing what anyone would." It was hard for Maxem to hold back an indignant snort, but he managed. This pack mate was useful, so he hadn't been subjected to the annoyed looks and being constantly ignored by those who were supposed to support them. He didn't have faith that any other decent rank wolf would have put forth such an effort to safe him. Maxem knew he was only good for one thing in the pack and that thing could easily be taught to another, he was sure of it. Something hot-anger-grew in his chest but like the snort, he beat it back. He didn't have the privilege's to get mad over something he was stuck in. At least he had a tiny bit of value within in the pack-for now.
His increasingly self loathing monologue was interrupted as the other wolf inspected his wounds from being pinned and bitten. He had almost forgotten about his neck. At first it had given him a searing pain but it had dulled to a faint throb. His leg was what was giving the most pain. Unlike his neck, the throbbing was getting worse. He tried to stand, thinking that would help, but as soon as the paw of his injured leg touched the ground what felt like a lightning bolt shot up, making him yelp. He pulled the paw up against his body. Damn, he was really hoping he could have avoided seeing any kind of healer but he knew that this wouldn't go away without some kind of help.
"I think I'm going to have to. I can't ignore this as much as I want to." Maxem said, looking back at his injured leg as if it had committed the worse betrayal. Now everyone was going to know of his accident and mock him for it. Just another day in the life of Maxem the Pawn.

--the new spring banner & colors look nice ^^
There wasn’t much of a response to be had from the other, as Hawk turned away the hero label. Instead, the other was reticent, where Hawk had perhaps expected a joke or some other form of light-hearted banter that the guy had seemed willing to engage in mere moments before, and that made the ghost wonder if he’d struck something with his comment, but it was impossible to tell. The other hid his thoughts or emotions behind a pensive expression, although there also seemed to be something else, there. Something almost somber, or wistful. Or perhaps he was imagining it? Shrugging, Hawk glanced around and then back to the path from which he’d come, hoping to start plotting a way down.
Hawk also mentally kicked himself for still not knowing the man’s name. He’d made it a point to try to learn and keep track of every pack member and to address everyone in the pack accordingly. It seemed he needed to do better in that regard, too.
The inquiry as to whether or not his companion would need medical attention seemed to break him out of whatever train of thought had encompassed him, as the sound of movement brought Hawk’s focus back to his packmate. The other was attempting to stand but did not get very far with his efforts. For as soon as he placed the formerly trapped limb upon the ground, he almost immediately retracted it again, a cry of pain accompanying the frenzied motion.
Although clearly in pain, the other guy almost looked more distraught at the notion of having to seek help than he was bothered by the injury itself. Hawk bit back a troubled frown, and instead simply nodded, sucking in a contemplative breath. ”We might be able to go to Athena, still. I think she knows a bit about.. medicinal stuff. She might be able to help.” That seemed like a reasonable place to start, anyway. ”If not, um, nobody has to know what happened. For all they know, we, or you, encountered a hostile loner. He caught you off guard at first, but you gained the advantage and drove him off.” He spoke with a small shrug, gesturing with his nose to the bite wound. It would be evidence to back that claim. Though Hawk was not particularly fond of lying, made clear by the hesitancy of his tone during the earlier suggestion, he’d made a promise to this man and it was something he intended to keep if he could.
”First, though, let’s see if we can get out of here.” This area felt far too exposed, and he was still reluctant to leave a companion in this state. Ignoring the twinge in his neck, for now, Hawk moved to align himself with the other, offering a silent nod of encouragement and a shoulder for support if it was needed.

--Omg thank you ^^
Maxem listened to his new companions story of what they could tell the others what happened, if anyone cared enough to ask. Though hearing Athena's name he knew she would ask-but it would be genuine. She always had something positive to say despite the hardships she had gone through. It was kind of inspiring, but then again she was lucky to have a decent rank in the pack where she could afford to be soft without someone trying to put her in place.
"Well, I think that's a believable enough story." He said with a small smile, trying to cheer himself up. He didn't need to be so depressing in front of someone new. "And we'll say that you stumbled upon the fight and were able to chase off the loner, I think they won't question it." He said, though hoped no one would question why his companion was unscathed. He was sure they could make up some kind of lie to cover that.
Maxem looked down the mountain, it was daunting, having to think about making his way down with such an injury, but it had to be done. He couldn't make the other carry him the whole way, he had to muster up whatever strength that he could, but as he thought that he felt a touch to his shoulder, looking over to see the other supporting him. Maxem returned his nod with one of his own and slowly starting making his way down the mountain, the rocks sliding a bit under their weight and Maxem had to lean on his partner, but tried not to do too much, not wnting to send the both of them tumbling down. Remembering the pain from before he made sure not to let his paw touch the ground as they made their slow way down.

The ghost’s packmate did not protest either of his ideas, which he took as an agreement to them. It remained puzzling, why the man seemed so tense and unwilling to seek help, to tell anyone what actually happened. It had just been an accident. Not something Hawk imagined anyone should be ashamed of. Even if it really was just a matter of wounded pride, though, he wouldn’t say anything unless he needed to.
His company seemed to cheer up a bit even, at that, proclaiming the story believable and proposing an additional aspect of it. The knight smiled a little at that, nodding. ”Alright. I heard what was going on, when the loner saw both of us, he realized he was outmatched.” It was a very believable sounding story, he thought. It would explain why Hawk had gotten out unscathed, at least visibly.
Carefully, then, the two of them began to head back down the slopes of the mountain. Despite his urge to rush down, Hawk resisted the temptation, remaining shoulder to shoulder with his packmate, for when his support was needed. Sighing a bit to himself, now seemed as good a time as any to address his last concern. ”I… umm, I'm sorry. I’m ashamed to admit it, especially now, after what happened, but.. I can’t remember your name. I’m Hawk.” Was it bad of him to hope just a little bit that the other guy didn’t know him by name, either? It felt like it. The ghost was going to feel terrible if the other guy knew his name already.

Maxem
Thoughts| "Spoken Word | Outside Speech | Molo
Maxem nodded, glad that they could agree on the story. Anyone would believe that someone had seen him and tried to attack. Maxem was a smaller male and didn't have much on him in terms of muscle and it was very obvious. The only big thing about him were paws, but those were only good for stretching over rocks while climbing, though in his state it was hard for him to catch himself as well as he could if he was in good health. The ordeal was taking a hold on him. He felt like whatever energy he had was being drained from him though he was determined to walk back to the pack, even if it meant collapsing into a days long sleep afterwards.
Maxem was thankful for his companions patience in supporting him down the mountain. He owed him a lot for this. It took time but eventually they made it to the bottom of the mountain when the other spoke. Maxem felt a bit embarrassed. He had told himself this man wouldn't know his name, but to have it confirmed outload just made it all the more real. He felt a small pang in his chest but offered a smile.
"Don't worry about it, there are a few oothers who don't know my name. It's Maxem. It's good to meet you Hawk." He said with a polite bow of his head then continued to speak, not wanting his new acquittance and potential friend to feel embarrassed. "Unfortunately it's pretty easy to not know each others name in the pack, there's quite a bit of us and we're in different ranks so it's pretty normal to not know each others names." He tried to reassure him. "There's still a few wolves whose names I don't know." Which was true, though Maxem tried to be friendly and act like things didn't bother him, he was hesitant to meet wolves outside of the ones he worked with. "Besides Athena, I don't really talk to anyone outside of the groups I work with and I think a lot of others are the same way, which is kind of unfortunate if you think about it. Living in a pack where most seem like strangers when packs are supposed to be like big families."
