He was content, even more so than he had been for a very long time. There were still a lot of daily tasks and duties to attend to, so the Knight had ventured out early that morning as he so often did. Although he hated to leave Athena, and certainly would've preferred to spend the day lounging with her or laughing and joking with Maxem, he could not. Thankfully, for most of the morning, things had been quiet, and that’d made his job relatively easy.
Though by now the sun had fully risen, once more baking the Vertok’s homelands in its almost unforgiving heat. Unusual for the area, likely, and for someone that had come from and was built for far cooler climates, that meant it was time to find shelter and have a rest or risk overheating.
A task that was relatively easy, given the numerous caves dotting the hills and mountainsides. All he had to do was duck into one and he was out of the direct sunlight. Tempted though he was to venture further in and explore the dark passageway, that was not his goal, for now. Instead, he settled a few paces in, facing the mouth of the cave to keep a lookout for anything, or anyone else that might happen to be passing by outside.

[googlefont=Quicksand:400,700|Poppins:900] [attr="class","dantepinkorangetitle"]dante [attr="class","dantepinkorangetext"]It was quite a daring decision to idle along the borders of pack territory after the goings-on with the lynx attack, but one Dante was not so ashamed of making. He maneuvered along the terrain, though as foreign as it was — he had never stepped foot on it before — the formation of the land felt so familiar. The rolling mountains and valleys felt like home and though he dared not to venture too deep into claimed territory, he felt he could admire the luscious scenery from a comfortable distance. He had more respect for pack lands than his actions likely let on, but he felt drawn to it. He could even notice how the mountains housed cave systems that he longed to explore, to feel closer to home, but he refrained.
Instead, Dante spent his afternoon looking for a different kind of familiar experience: company. He had realized that doing so in pack territory was probably a less-than-bright idea but some things were worth taking a risk over. Whatever or whoever he would encounter, he would greet with open arms; it had been his idea after all, and he would be the one to take accountability for it.
His autumnal fur felt warm over his skin but not in a dreadful way. Though built for high mountain elevations and cooler weather, he felt oddly comfortable. He passed numerous caves, pausing at almost each one to peak his head into and give a quick search out of pure curiosity. He wondered what secrets lay behind the veil of darkness but sticking his nose in areas it had no business being in was not the best idea… too bad it was his specialty. There were many in this area which prompted him to keep moving forward, almost prancing along as he basked in the sunlight. Dante passed one cave, then another, and another, for a moment forgetting why he had even set out in the territory. But, a pale silhouette marked by brown eyes caught his attention and he froze, staring back with his own russet ones blown wide with surprise.
Oh dear. He hadn’t expected to actually run into another wolf but he shouldn’t have been so shocked. Just… caught off guard. Were they hiding? Maybe, from the sun. Dante blinked dumbly before scrambling back from the mouth of the cave to give the other wolf more space. “H—Hi there!” he greeted, a sheepish smile finding its way onto his muzzle. They were definitely from this territory, he was astonished he hadn’t noticed the scent before. Not quite the way he wanted to run into another individual, but he hoped the other wasn’t as startled as him. “I hope I didn’t startle you. What are you doin’ in there?” @[attr="class","dantepinkorangetag"]Molo enjoy my dumb son <3 [newclass=.dantepinkorangetag a]color: white!important; font-family: quicksand;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetitle]text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 50px; background: linear-gradient(to right, #f5b0bf, #f6c5b1); -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent; -webkit-background-clip: text;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetags]padding: 0 3px 0 0; background: linear-gradient(to right, #f5b0bf, #f6c5b1); -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent; -webkit-background-clip: text;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetext b]font-family: poppins; background: linear-gradient(to right, #f5b0bf, #f6c5b1); -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent; -webkit-background-clip: text;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetext u]color: #ccc;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetext i]background: linear-gradient(to right, #f5b0bf, #f6c5b1); -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent; -webkit-background-clip: text;[/newclass]

Though he was by now means fond of having to pause his daily duties to accommodate the excess heat, it was at least, swiftly becoming a part of his routine. Something Hawk could work with, and plan around. It was indubitably far better than someone else coming across him after he’d collapsed from heatstroke or some such thing. He couldn’t imagine anyone having to deliver that news to Athena, either.
That was a completely avoidable fate. Fortunately as well, the pause did provide him a daily opportunity just to sit and think. To gather his thoughts, which, at least to him, was important.
But he didn’t have a whole lot of time for that today. It did not come as too great a surprise to suddenly see the face of another staring in at him from the outside world. What the knight did not necessarily anticipate, however, was that it would be someone he did not recognize. That was not even part of the Vertok, if scents were any indicator.
It appeared as if the stranger, though, had been caught off guard. After only a few moments of silent staring the other shuffled back, away from the cave. That action prompted the ghost to push himself back to his paws and then saunter forth a couple of paces. Not enough to expose himself to the sun, but just to get a better look.
Hi there, the other offered, sounding perhaps a tad abashed. At the subsequent statement, Hawk gave a gentle shake of his head, allowing himself to mirror the smile offered to a degree after that. ”Good day. And you did not,” he returned the greeting courteously. ”I was just sheltering from the sun, for a while.”
All of the manners and embarrassment didn’t change the fact that a stranger was in his pack’s territory, though. The other most likely knew that, and while Hawk didn’t take offense at the intrusion, it did warrant a question. ”Is there something I can help you with? Someone or something you’re looking for, in our pack?” The inquiry was posed without annoyance or judgment. There was no need to be territorial or defensive, it appeared.

[googlefont=Quicksand:400,700|Poppins:900] [attr="class","dantepinkorangetitle"]dante [attr="class","dantepinkorangetext"]Dante stared at the ghostly stranger, listening intently to his words. Ah, shelter. That probably should have been obvious, but he had been too engrossed in his meandering—and startled—to conclude something sensical. At least, he was pleased to hear his appearance hadn’t startled the stranger, and he could tell his response was genuine. His demeanor was calm as he asked him a question that prompted the auburn man to actually pause and think.
He straightened his posture and rolled his shoulders to appear more presentable before offering the guardian another smile, one that touched his eyes. “No sir, I was only passing through. I mean you no harm, and by extension your territory.” He extended a pale paw towards the man as if in greeting. “Quite frankly, I am lost,” he chuckled. Not a full lie but not the whole truth. It was true he could no longer tell how deep into the territory he was (which, he hoped was not too deep), but he didn’t really want to leave. At least, not of his own volition. However, if he were ordered to, by this man for instance, he would happily find his own way back. After all, he wasn’t seeking an altercation.
“I was caught up admiring your land. It is very beautiful,” said Dante, continuing the conversation. He removed his red eyes from the guardian to look around. He could sense no malice from him, and so he would do the same. “It reminds me of home.” [attr="class","dantepinkorangetag"]Molo <3 [newclass=.dantepinkorangetag a]color: white!important; font-family: quicksand;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetitle]text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 50px; background: linear-gradient(to right, #f5b0bf, #f6c5b1); -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent; -webkit-background-clip: text;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetags]padding: 0 3px 0 0; background: linear-gradient(to right, #f5b0bf, #f6c5b1); -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent; -webkit-background-clip: text;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetext b]font-family: poppins; background: linear-gradient(to right, #f5b0bf, #f6c5b1); -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent; -webkit-background-clip: text;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetext u]color: #ccc;[/newclass][newclass=.dantepinkorangetext i]background: linear-gradient(to right, #f5b0bf, #f6c5b1); -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent; -webkit-background-clip: text;[/newclass]

The stranger appeared to be put a little more at ease, something the white knight was glad to see. Ever since his first chance encounter with them, he’d known the Vertok to be an open and accepting bunch - to most wolves anyway. While allowing trespassing wasn’t necessarily the custom he’d been raised with, he could work with it. This was why one went on patrols, after all.
In his response, the newcomer remained respectful, addressing Hawk as sir, and explaining that he meant nobody any harm. He was evidently lost. A very small portion of the knight, the always-on-guard and suspicious part of him thought that an all too convenient excuse, but he hadn’t been given any reason not to believe it.
”I see,” Hawk accepted the reasoning with a nod. ”Not to worry, either. We welcome anyone provided they mean us no harm. And I’ve no reason to believe you do.” Not only based on what he’d said, but by the stranger’s demeanor and presentation as well. But then there was another reason, a deeper one.
The other had been admiring their home. It was very beautiful, he said, and it reminded him of his.
”It is beautiful. We’re blessed to have it,” Hawk agreed with a smile and a nod, dark eyes briefly scanning what little of the landscape he could see beyond the stranger. ”I’d be glad to provide you an escort, and some company, if you would like to look around. And perhaps.. reminisce?” For that was a sentiment the white knight could surely understand and was sympathetic to, given this was not his native home, either.
