Soralai
Against her best efforts, even Soralai succumbed to boredom every now and then. She'd been keeping her days as busy as she could manage, as usual, but knowing so few people in this new place meant there was a lot of exchanging names, wishing-wells, and then moving-on-her-merry-ways. Perhaps that's why she was back into the forest, where she knew her fellow guildmates - what a strange concept, for her to be affiliated like that - were more likely to lurk. Not to mention the young trees offered her some respite from the beating sun, though it would be dark again soon. Wandering aimlessly, she eventually came upon a familiar sight: a red mark, dried into the trunk of a thin tree with the earth upturned at it's base. A Mercurior store, she reminded herself, raising a brow. Leaning over she picked up what was undeniably Timber's scent, though faded. She huffed and slumped down, leaning her own red mark against the side of the wooden pillar. She'd take even the boss as company right now, but even that didn't seem like it was going to happen. Leaving the store alone, she instead picked up a stray branch and took to absentmindedly stripping the bark off of it, sharpening her teeth while staring out into the distance. Perhaps it was time to accept that night would fall uneventfully once again. Jay

RUKA The newly initiated Magnum spy had been busying to and fro most of the day, bouncing from one end of the forest to the other. Carrying out a mission he brought onto himself in order to acclimate to the new land quicker, he was scouting out all of the guild’s stores as he went, occasionally marking passing tree trunks with simple claw marks to track his progress. What a peculiar idea, those stores branded with an identifying symbol. It was a clever one—a move well played by the guild’s leader—one he wouldn’t mind taking full advantage of as he settled more into this new lifestyle. Fortunately, most of the stores he encountered were full, or at least adequate enough that his moving on wouldn’t be of any consequence should an authority figure catch his lingering scent. Ruka moved with swiftness, his singular objective on his mind as he wasn’t very present elsewhere. At least before a certain scent reached him, causing him to stop as his heart fluttered with a rush of excitement. He was no longer alone in the area. Had this presence always been here? He hoped it was another guild member but he had not yet learned their scents. Just as quickly as he stopped he began forward again, moving faster as he frantically searched around, but tried to not look too desperate. Squinting past the descending rays of sunlight, a streak of red caught his eye, and through the foliage he pinpointed the laid down figure of another wolf gnawing on a branch. He stood still for a moment, feeling his skin warm with embarrassment. It was one of those moments where it was probably too late to retreat since he was easy to spot, but he also didn’t know if he should make any advancements. It likely seemed as though he had been stalking her. That was the opposite impression he wanted to give. Instead of reacting instantly, he looked at her before following her gaze out towards the horizon, but upon realizing she wasn’t looking at anything in particular, he looked back at her, pulling a sheepish smile. What did he have left to lose? From the brush, he took a few steps forward. He gave the woman another glance over but took an immediate interest in the red mark on her shoulder. Guild member, indeed! He felt even more obliged to introduce himself. But what was he to say? “Uh—” he croaked. His throat cleared and he winced. “H—Hi,” he said after a moment. “I hope I’m not bothering you—you seemed occupied,” he gestured delicately to the branch in her teeth. It was evident he was nervous, noticeable through how fast he was talking. “I, uh, I was just passing by. I can leave if you want.” He gestured to the side this time, preparing to take a step back should the woman react suddenly. “But… my name's Ruka. I’m a guild member.” He gave another smile, one more genuine as he extended his wrist to expose the brand near his dewclaw. “A spy.”Was… that a smart move? To reveal his trade? Even to a fellow guild member? He had not a clue. He realized he was giving mixed signals. Did he want to stay or not? He also hadn’t a clue. He supposed his answer would depend on the woman. Razza

Soralai A minute could've slid by or a year- the only indicator of the passing of time for Soralai was the progressing nakedness of her tree branch. Her sharp fangs made easy work of it's skin, and she enjoyed the woodsy taste of it flooding her mouth. Earthy, grounded, and familiar. Sticks seemed to taste the same no matter what realm she found herself tangled up in. With the passing of those minutes the sounds of the late evening forest weaned away into a warm, lulling hum. She could easily fall asleep here; could curl up around this silly twig and forget everything for a while. She'd look like a lost little orphan pup, and although the thought was terrible she couldn't help but giggle to herself. A little too spot on, Sora. She took a breath and leaned further into the tree, perhaps only imagining that her laughter had echoed back at her in the quiet, ear twitching as the lull continued on in it's aftermath, uninterrupted. And then her ear twitched again. And again. Her muscles tightened on their own accord. Prickling at the edge of her awareness was the distinct feeling that she was being watched. Rather than fear however, Soralai felt a jolt of anticipation run through her. She straightened up, subtly trying to tuck some of her cheek fur back into place as to look more presentable before she taking a sweeping look around. How funny would it be if she accidentally summoned Timber with her thoughts, like some kind of devil? Ah, but no, it indeed wasn't her. It was someone entirely new. Someone she'd never met. Another face to greet. Soralai smiled as their eyes slid back to her as if they'd been looking away in the distance. Then her observer drew near like a dark, sinuous wisp of smoke. Looking a bit timid, as well, though she couldn't imagine why. She'd made not a single move in hopes that they would! “Uh— H—Hi. I hope I’m not bothering you—you seemed occupied,” he said, waving a dark paw down to where she'd forgotten about the stick entirely. With one final, resounding snap, she crushed the remains of it in half and then turned back to her new muse, not daring to interrupt as he wove together a sweet introduction. He was quite young. Ruka, was his name, though he'd offered to leave before even revealing that much. He stuck out a paw and Sora could feel him try out a smile towards her as she looked down and saw his mark. "- A spy."Soralai's eyes darted back up. "Please don't! Leave, I mean!" She corrected her hastiness and smiled back, allowing only a single moment for herself to be embarrassed. Heavens, how much lonelier could she get? The first sign of common ground and she's ready to throw herself down and beg for the kid to talk to her? She shook her head and chuckled, hoping some self depreciation would soften the blow of her eagerness. "Sorry, I was just hoping for some company, and now here you are. I wonder if these brands give us some kind of telepathy." Although he'd clearly already caught sight of it Soralai tilted her shoulder up so he could get a better look at the red mark. "Im Soralai, but you can just call me Sora." Lifting a brow, a humored, knowing look crossing her features. "A spy as well."She didn't worry too much about the reveal. The Guild didn't have that much of her loyalty yet, that she'd jeopardize instant gratification for protecting it so fiercely. Ruka, however, still looked in doubt of everything going on here. Sora watched his cedar-colored eyes flit around, tilting her head. She straightened up then calmly used a paw to try and direct Ruka's gaze to the tree they were by. It clearly wasn't the first thing he went for, but maybe if she offered him a distraction he would feel a bit braver. Sora's expression was soft and curious. Kind. "Are you here for this, then?"Jay

RUKA The young male was on edge, not necessarily because of his company, but rather because of himself. He caught the glimpse of a smile from the woman, and as he stood there awkwardly waiting for her response to his clumsily woven together introduction, he instinctively gave her another glance over. She was pretty, with soft, curly red fur and striking golden eyes. She was also quite older than him, but not by too much. He wondered what trade she was in; where in the guild she stood. But he couldn’t wonder for long because once he caught her gaze again she spoke with urgency. Don’t leave? Her hastiness brought an immediate small smile to his lips. She chuckled, probably at herself, which allowed Ruka’s smile to grow by a hair. "Sorry, I was just hoping for some company, and now here you are. I wonder if these brands give us some kind of telepathy." she said, tilting her branded shoulder towards him so that he could get a better look. He did — it was just like his. Not that he was expecting anything more or less, but to have haphazardly come across another with the same brand was… reassuring. Maybe there was something about them that was special, as she had mentioned, and the thought pulled a little chuckle from him. The woman introduced herself as Soralai, or Sora, and the first thing that came to his mind was how their names rhymed. He thought it to be amusing and before he could comment on it, she disclosed that she, too, was a spy. The reveal caught him off guard, indicated by his widened eyes. Ruka returned her knowing look with one of momentary puzzlement before the realization finally struck him. Quickly wiping the dumb look off his face, a smile replaced it. His heart continued to race and his nerves still jittered. Social situations were never his strong suit and introducing himself the way he had certainly did not help things on his behalf. But the woman, Sora, waved a distracting paw and as his eyes returned to her, he caught her gaze again. It was nothing but kind, which was able to remind him to try and get a hold of himself. He believed he had been hiding his nerves well, but he was not, since she was able to pick up on his nervousness. With ease she was able to redirect Ruka’s attention to the nearby tree. Am I here for that? He blinked blankly a few times at it before understanding what she was implying. He wasn’t here for the store necessarily—not that he was here for any real reason, other than curiosity, or maybe loneliness. But he wouldn’t pass on the opportunity for an evening snack. “Yeah!” he blurted quickly, realizing he hadn’t yet said anything despite being already halfway there. He approached the mark, stopped, and stared at it, before looking down at the base of upturned soil. It was then he began to timidly dig, pulling away experimentally at the dirt and slowly uncovering what lay underneath. He was expecting it to be empty but to his surprise, it wasn’t! There were some hares and squirrels, not too stale but he wasn’t picky. Gingerly grabbing whatever his teeth touched first he stood and began to pack the soil back into place, with little to no technique. A little squirrel hung in his jaws, dangling by the hair of its tail. Backing away from the store he decided to lay down, his jittery nerves completely gone and almost completely forgotten about, when he drew his attention back to Sora. “Thank you,” said Ruka, perhaps a little out of the blue. Timber had been the only guild member he’s met, so to have met another who had an amiable air about them—and the same trade no less! He felt compelled to express his gratitude, if not at the woman, then at least at how fate had led him here. “Other than the boss you're the only other member I've seen around here. Not that I expect to see many of us passing through.” Ruka chuckled, maybe a little ungainly at his attempt to start another conversation. Try as he might, he had no clue how to do that or even how to keep one going. He just didn’t want to fall into an awkward silence. Razza
