Soralai Cutting silently across brown, sun-dried earth was a wolf, who danced between each branch of foliage that dared try and snag her with an easy grace. Orange like a sunset, with an unusual, dried mark of crimson painted on her shoulder, she had a clear destination in mind. Soralai broke through the tree line and into the peaking sunlight, a flurry of scattering birds announcing her arrival. Before her she spotted the lake, gleaming and tempting, made even more so by the dark rim around it's shore where water had dried up and promised to evaporate even further in the coming weeks. She crooked a brow at it and padded closer, tail whipping back and forth while her eyes darted about curiously, drinking in the view and all the information it presented to her. Slowly she approached and leaned over to steal a refreshing drink. Even now, however, with her head lowered and shoulders slumped, she was watching and waiting. This place was just as strange and new to her as she was to it. Flicking her ears, Soralai knew the slight movement would give away just how careful she was being to any peering eyes. For now, though, she found herself alone, and the movement was lost to the quiet space hovering around the lakeside like a fog. But only just, for now.

S H E P H E R D The loud snap seemed to echo through the silent woods as small canines bit down on a particularly audacious twig, it and all it's brothers trying to snag the fur of the young, scruffy wolf. Shepherd let out a strange growl that broke into a puppyish wine, knowing exactly what the adults of his pack would say if they could see him now. "Maybe if you ever groomed yourself," he said in a snarky tone, shaking his short, tousled pelt free of nature's grasp. The rebellious young male couldn't stand most of the adults in Vertok, who always tried to "teach him" while simultaneously insulting him. That's why he came here though, to a place he could always rely on to grant him some peace- the lake, not far outside of his home territory.
With just a hop and a skip over some dried shrubs, the young Pawn broke from the woods that encompassed the large body of water, pausing to take in the scene. At first glance his awkwardly large ears flicked back as he noticed the shoreline had grown further into the lake- a lot further than the last time he was here. He hadn't known that land could eat water like this. Upon a second take, his topaz yellow eyes caught sight of something different, and perhaps even more interesting; the figure of a wolf stooping over the bank. From where he stood Shepherd could only see the back-end of them, but even from that angle they didn't strike him as familiar. His ears twitched as he stood, uncertain of what to do. Typically, when he was with his pack or his friends, he was quite confident around strangers. But now he was alone, in unclaimed land, where anyone could do whatever they wanted. 'Well,' thought the pup, 'I reckon that means I can do anything I want, too.' What did he have to lose, after all?
Paws a bit too large for his body padded up to the wolf, sinking into the fresh mud as he neared. He took in their appearance as he walked around to see their side, and found himself particularly fascinated by their coat; almost as fiery as his, except for a lack in deeper reds.
"Hi," Shepherd greeted them. He seated himself on the shoreline just a few paces from the stranger, a female it seemed. The unkempt fellow eyed her with curiosity, though with one ear pricked forward and the other back in a lopsided manner, he was clearly hesitant as well, unsure of how they would take his presence.

Soralai As always, the evidence of someone approaching made Soralai jolt with interest. Head and ears perking up simultaneously, she poked out her pink tongue to lick away any droplets from her muzzle. Training her eyes on the tree line, she prepared her easiest smile. There seemed to be some rustling, followed by a loud snap, before, finally, they burst out of the shadows. Soralai was confused for a brief moment as there didn't seem to be anyone there until- gasp! Her gaze dropped. A baby!!!?!?! She missed a beat but quickly forced herself to recover. "Ah! Hello there, sir!" So rarely did she ever actually see children these days, watching him approach with a friendly wag of her tail. The closer he got the better she could guess his age, though it was still hard to tell. He was the color of a living flame, with yellow eyes that could rival hers and fur that could probably use a grooming, like most pups. "Hi," he said. A simple greeting, to which Sora titled her head as she watched him circle around to her side and settle down. He was brave, approaching an adult like this, though his face told her not overly so. Soralai, as it were, knew kids. She mirrored his actions and sat, gently looking the little one in the eye. One ear subtly moved toward the tree line, where she was certain his guardian would appear at any moment. "Let me guess," she started, tilting her head at the pup. "You've come here for a drink too, hmm?" Her eyes remained warm and posture relaxed, hoping to make the pup comfortable. He was, at the very least, curious. After a moment, she added. "Unless- hopefully I'm not trespassing on your territory, am I? I can assure you I come in peace." Soralai knew for a fact that this place belonged to no one long before she set paw here, but even so, it was good to stroke the ego of your new friends. Especially when they were children. A wave lapped at the shore beside them, and Soralai hoped she hadn't made herself seem strange already.

[googlefont=Krub:700] ✕ roselle ✕ With each step along the forest floor, Roselle felt the crumbling earth beneath her calloused paw pads. She walked in a deliberately slow manner, feeling each muscle in her body flex with the leisurely momentum. She inhaled, relishing the warm but crisp air flowing into her lungs, seeing the summer lands shift with the season. She felt invigorated, greatly anticipating the turn of autumn. It promised fewer herds to track but she was never above theft if her situation demanded it. Above all else, she enjoyed the fiery colors and cooler winds. And with hope, it would also bring the pervasive drought to an end. Fortunately for Roselle, she had been mostly unaffected by it, able to subsist expending minimal energy. She acted only when needed, and currently, the time to act was now. A slight dryness clung to the edges of her tongue as she ambled forward. She had been following the musty but welcomed odor of a lake about a mile back, and with each step forth it grew thicker. The distant babbling of a brook helped to guide her along towards her destination, constantly alerting her of any necessary turns in the path. The rowdy fluttering of birds drew her attention up as her ears perked, instantly curious about what had spooked them. The area it came from was farther ahead, and before long the objective to quench her thirst slipped Roselle’s mind. She quickened her pace, mindful not to exert herself too much should she have to engage someone. Nonetheless, she couldn’t deny the sudden excitement welling up at the thought of another’s presence. It had been a lonely few days and passing up an opportunity to socialize simply wasn’t in her agenda. Exiting the tree line Roselle entered a clearing, a massive lake in its center, just as she expected. It was grand, but lacking, its shoreline seemingly folded in on itself. Likely a product of the drought; she exhaled through her nose in displeasure at the probability. The morning sun peeked over the nearby trees, casting a warm, gentle glow over the area. Her autumnal eyes drifted to the far side of the lake where two figures stood. There. A tentative smile surfaced on her lips. With a fluffy ear twitching back she lowered to touch the water’s surface to refresh herself before analyzing the figures again. Both were similar in color but individually striking; a woman around Roselle’s age and a pup who, even from this distance, looked as though they could rouse hell. Intrigue bubbled. She had no clue who they were or what their motives for being here were, but she didn’t put it past them to be simply, innocently freshening up at the lake as well. Nonchalantly Roselle began her trek around the perimeter of the lake, her tail waving above her to indicate friendliness while her tongue lolled out the side of her mouth. Razza Burn

S H E P H E R D The female had greeted him with such enthusiasm, hardly what the young Shepherd had expected. It was nice, though, he thought, for someone to offer him a bright smile and welcome his company for once, surely it meant that this stranger could be no threat to him. He relaxed a bit, looking up into the lady's yellow eyes with the same warm smile that she had offered him, though he felt as if his lopsided smirk was awkward if anything.
"Let me guess," she was first to break the ice. "You've come here for a drink too, hmm?" Shepherd paused for a moment before shaking his head. "No," really, he never considered using the lake as the actual water source that it was when he came here, it was usually just the first place he thought of when he sulked off. "I'm just here to get away from my stupid pack." He explained with a little huff, glancing at the muddy ground between his paws. His oversized ears perked up upon the female speaking once more. "Unless- hopefully I'm not trespassing on your territory, am I? I can assure you I come in peace." The question urged his lips to curl up in an amused grin, exposing the tips of his little needle-teeth. He could tell she wasn't being serious, but the idea did toy at his mind. "I wish," he went along with it, "I mean, obviously I could have all the territory around here-" his short, bedraggled tail thumped the dampened ground as he looked up to the stranger, "-and you can stay." She seemed nice and hadn't tried reprimanding him yet. If this could be his territory, she'd be the only adult he'd let in it! The young fellow glanced around them with a wistful gaze, imagining what it'd be like if this whole lake could be his and only his, and all the territory that lay unclaimed and ready to be taken out there. He would take it, and then only he and his friends could-- wait, what was that over there?
He squinted at the figure moving along the lakeshore, coming right towards them. A whole nother wolf?! For a moment Shepherd stared with ears tall on his head, seemingly taken aback that there was more than one wolf in this area. All the confidence he had gained out here vanished as he stood, scampering to the other side of the sunset female and peeking around the front of her legs at the auburn stranger, amber eyes squinting with uncertainty. He hadn't even known this female for more than five minutes, but he knew the approaching wolf even less, so with his young logic, it made sense to take cover behind someone that might protect him. He kept silent, being used to letting the adults speak first and foremost, and not quite feeling his typical arrogance nor rebellion in a situation like this. He honestly wished his friends were here.

Soralai The youngling was easily warmed up to Soralai, smiling crookedly and surprising her with very candor answers to her questions. "No," he said plainly. "I'm just here to get away from my stupid pack."Soralai's ears perked up at once. Stupid pack? He was one of the pack's pups? What in the world was he doing all the way out here? While this new information registered with her, she remained careful in her expression as to not let on about how much she knew. Children were not as stupid as so many often believed, and she didn't want this boy to know that she immediately knew where he must be from and who his leaders were, even if it was the truth. "Ah, I've found myself a fugitive, then," she commented instead, smiling wryly. A look of recognition crossed over her face as she watched him toe at the mud, bright fur standing out starkly against it. "You're lucky I'm no snitch. When I was younger I snuck away a lot, too. Usually to avoid my drab training sessions." She chuckled at the memory, wondering if this was a similar case... and hoping it wasn't something more serious, as she saw all too often. But she shouldn't let her imagination get ahead of her. The boy perked up minutely at her next question. "I wish. I mean, obviously I could have all the territory around here..." - Soralai nodded and hummed an "of course" - "...and you can stay."She laughed happily at his zeal, allowing herself to bask in the refreshing confidence of youth. "Well," she said, turning back to him with a bright smile as her chuckles died down, "you still have a lot of life ahead of you. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be taking you up on that offer." Soralai's tail drummed against the ground in time with his, simply enjoying their conversation. Her new, small friend was looking around them with stars in his eyes, probably picturing himself in all sorts of strong, heroic poses amongst his future realm. She let the moment last for a while without interruption. But in that silence her curiosity began to nag again, and she felt the question bubbling up even though it threatened to sour the mood... "So, would anyone from that 'stupid pack' of yours be invited as well?" Maybe she could glean some more info about why he was out here from his answer. Meanwhile she went over what she knew of the closest pack in her head, which she could only assume was the pup's affiliation. The ones in the mountains. The Vertok. The sudden movement of the boy's head whipping around caught her attention next, however. When Soralai followed his gaze, she felt a momentary pang of shock to find a third wolf in the distance, approaching after having completely flown under her radar. Her eyes widened in surprise temporarily, but this did happen every now and then. What shocked her a little less was the pup deciding to use Soralai as a living shield, apparently already trusting her enough to press against her legs in a way that warmed her heart, a bit. Gathering herself, she chuckled, placing a reassuring paw on top of her small friend's head while turning to greet the still far-away newcomer with a smile. She guessed that this wasn't one of his packmates by the way he took cover, but if her earlier suspicions proved true... well, she only hoped a pup wouldn't hide so fully at the sight of his own packmate, even after venturing out past territory lines. "Good morning!" Sora called out, taking the change in stride and with a smile, as she practiced with every passing day. She sat perfectly still and calm as always, trying to squint against the morning sun to see who was approaching before they were on top of each other. It seemed that this was... a female? A well built one, too, with a friendly wag to her tail. Soralai tilted her head, wavy fur brushing against the pup by her side. "Looks like this lake is popular today, hm?" It was loud enough still to reach the ears of whoever was approaching, but casual enough in hopes to ease the pup's mood. Burn , Jay

[googlefont=Krub:700] ✕ roselle ✕ The female watched the two figures in the distance with interest as she rounded the lake, making steady progress towards them. Her tail continued to wave in the wind like a banner and as she drew closer her pace slowed down to a leisurely jog, taking longer steps. Roselle briefly considered her intrusion on the two but paid the thought little mind and had even less remorse. Intruding on others’ personal space was a specialty of her's, for better or worse. Her body held no visible tension as she came to a stop a few strides before the two, and up-close she studied them. The woman had reddish wavy fur and a peculiar marking on her shoulder — an insignia Rose certainly did not recognize, and the pup who had taken shelter, much to her amusement, seemed to almost glow in the light of the rising sun. However, his vibrant and unique coloration seemed to contrast with his bearing, she noted, as he cowered behind the red woman. She nodded in response to her ‘good morning,’ and replied with a casual “morning” before taking a seat near the shoreline. The sun beamed, peeking over the nearby trees and coloring the sky a pinkish-orange that never failed to fascinate her. "Looks like this lake is popular today, hm?" commented the woman. Rose turned to her, analyzing her movements, her wry smile peeking at the corner of her lips. “I do hope I’m not interrupting anything important, say, an assembly of minds,” she humored with a raised paw, flicking it towards them as she eased back on her haunches. Judging by how the woman had greeted her earlier, she was, in fact, not, but what fun was there in taking such social cues literally? Her gaze dropped to the pup and her grin grew. “You need not worry. I won’t move from this spot,” with a claw she motioned to the ground where she sat, her tone rich with amusement. Inhaling the crisp air, she continued, addressing the both of them, “a lonely morning it has been.” While it wasn’t a lie, she was more interested in exactly who these individuals were and from where they may have originated from. She was especially curious about the insignia on the woman’s shoulder. It was the first time she had seen such a mark in this valley. “So may I fill the void with some company?”Razza Burn

S H E P H E R D "You had training sessions?" The young boy looked up to the stranger with admiration and wonder. He could only imagine what it would be like to train, to hone his muscles every day, learn new skills and become the best fighter in the whole territory - what he wouldn't give for that! He pondered if the other pups of the Vertok were training. He never really paid attention to them, asides from Zero and Malakai. A small spike of jealousy went through his chest at the thought of them training without him, making his short, scraggly fur fluff up.
This lady had a way of lightening the mood, though, and soon he was distracted from the thought. "Well," She said, "you still have a lot of life ahead of you. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be taking you up on that offer." Again he grinned, a little snaggletooth showing. He'd never had someone put so much confidence in him before; did she really think he could take all this territory as his own? The thought was awfully tempting, to think of being a leader, being so powerful! Often he acted as the ringleader of the trio made up of his friends and he, but he felt that they didn't always recognize his authority... "So, would anyone from that 'stupid pack' of yours be invited as well?" She then asked. Shepherd furrowed his high brow in thought. It didn't take long for him to decide. "Only my two friends, and nobody else." He said certainly. "Our babysitter is okay... But she tries to control me too much, and I wouldn't need help from anyone when I lead!" The confident boy declared, his short tail thumping the mud flat.
Shepherd now glared from behind the wavy-furred female, his wide ears smushed down by the paw on his head. The approaching wolf seemed female, a rather large one at that! But she seemed relaxed, and her swaying tail gave off a look of friendliness. The first wolf offered a cheery 'good morning,' in which the second returned upon arrival. Was it every day that strangers walked up to each other like it was nothing? Perhaps where there was no territory at stake, he considered. The brownish-red woman mentioned something about an assembly of minds, which Shepherd didn't quite understand, so he remained silent until she smiled down at him. “You need not worry. I won’t move from this spot,” She assured with a gesture of her paw. The pup flicked one black ear, clearly skeptical. "Better not," He yipped, thinking he sounded far more fierce than he truly did. The bulky lady went on, and he concluded it best to let the two adults sort things out. For a moment, he imagined the wolf of sunset acting as a bodyguard for the young King, the new company a stranger encroaching on their domain.

Soralai Soralai felt her smile turning confused as she looked down at the pup. Of course, do you not? She said to him with a look. It was a perplexing thought, but one she didn't have the time to interrogate further. This boy had all the ego and enthusiasm of any other young wolf, and if it were true that his energy wasn't being put to good use, well then no wonder he'd strayed so far from his pack. At the very least she was happy to hear he had two friends, but if they were only pups too... Ah, so many questions. Soralai almost felt regret as she had to turn away, catching how the third wolf moved into a loping pace to catch up. But there was time yet for her to learn more. “I do hope I’m not interrupting anything important, say, an assembly of minds,” said the stranger, and Soralai felt herself being sized up. "Nothing we can't bring you up to speed on," she played back, taking her paw off the pup's head and tapping his shoulder lightly before setting it back down as the new woman assured him she wouldn't move. Soralai didn't budge either, steady as a rock in case the child needed her to be. Even if they had just met as well, between their few shared words and Soralai's own theories, it was hard for her to ignore the worry she felt while looking down at him. She breathed out slowly and straightened back up. "Deep revelations of the future, mostly. The usual topic of conversation for chance encounters." Soralai shared a small, taciturn smile of her own with the woman, hoping to establish the friendliness here. And now that the woman was out of the morning sun's blinding haze, Sora could spare her a good look in return. Attractive features fell not on blind eyes as she observed, taking in the warmth of the woman's colors but also noting the way a sharp, almost mischievous expression contrasted it. Not quite her type, but still very interesting. “A lonely morning it has been.”"A lonely few days, more like. You're a wanderer as well, I assume?" Soralai tiled her head, smiling. She felt the pup's silence looming at her side like a wasp, but kept her attention on the woman, letting him watch and judge for himself. If she wasn't his packmate, and wasn't Mercurior, then it was the most obvious conclusion. “So may I fill the void with some company?” Tilting her head down to the pup, Sora hummed. "Absolutely, as long as my friend here agrees."Burn , Jay
