The Sanzin no price too steep for power Total: 6 | Male: 2 | Female: 4
The Sanzin require little introduction. Notorious throughout the lands as a pack that knows little remorse, their reputation often precedes them. Known as a pack that values power above all. They care little for how it is obtained. Their laws are often for show only. Anything goes in the pack as long as you have the power to brush it aside. A Sanzin's first priority is always themselves and everyone plays second fiddle to them. To the Sanzin, rather than the strength of the pack, it is one's own strength that matters. As they say, never trust a Sanzin. After all, they don't even trust each other.SuitArtemis

Rankings Total: 4 | Male: 1 | Female: 3 Elders: 0 | Adults: 4 | Pups and Yearlings: 0
Each wolf has a trade along with their rank; raider, warrior, hunter, or healer. Raiders are diamonds, warriors are spades, hunters are clubs, and healers are hearts. All wolves have a trade except for Suits and Jokers. Royalty
SUIT The pack's one and only leader. Their word is law and to disobey is to be killed or exiled if they're feeling nice. They have absolute power to do whatever they want, whenever they want. Technically, they have the usual duties of a pack leader, but they rarely ever do them. Most Suits have spent their time enjoying themselves and caring little for the affairs of the pack. - SUIT: Artemis
ACES The Suit's favorites and personal guards. They occasionally act as advisers to the Suit and accompany the Suit everywhere. They have authority second only to the Suit. They aren't always the most skilled member of their trade and are more likely to have won the spot through charm than anything. - DIAMOND | Available

High Ranks
KINGS Kings command their respective trade. They are not always the best of their trade but rather may have had the luck to gain their rank through a Chance Games or other means. They make sure everyone stays in line and no laws are broken. Though that is what they are supposed to do, most times, they load it all off on the Queens. - DIAMOND | Available

QUEENS The King's second and advisor. They are usually the ones doing the heavy lifting. They take on all the tasks the King doesn't want which is usually everything. - DIAMOND | Available

HEART | Moro
Mid Ranks
JACKS Pseudo-Kings and Queens. They act like they have authority but don't really. They are basically the same as high-ranking numbers and are really nothing more than a stand-in for when a King or Queen of their respective trade needs a rest, is ill, injured, or killed. Known as the strong arm of the higher ranks, rather than keeping the peace, they ensure that the power dynamics remain the way they are. It is often remarked that they are all bluff and bluster and no bite.

SPADE | Available
CLUB | Available
HEART | Available
NUMBERS The vast majority of the pack. They are given a number from two to ten with a bigger number signifying a higher rank. They do whatever they are told. The higher numbers often try to load off their tasks on lower numbers while still taking credit for the work. - DIAMOND Sariel: Ten open SPADE Areas: Five open CLUB open HEART open
ZEROS Zeroes are pups, elders, pregnant and nursing mothers. They are outside the usual system. Zeroes are protected by the Suit and are to be treated with respect. Pregnant and nursing mothers are Zeroes until they are done nursing. Pups are Zeroes until they reach a year of age. Afterwards, they are left to defend for themselves. While they have the status of Zeroes, some mothers will attempt to escape the pack with their children to spare them the pack's cruelty. - Fable
Low Ranks
JOKERS The pack's punching bags. They are often demoted here for no real reason other than they mildly annoyed someone of a higher rank. They are ignored, trampled, and scorned. Since so little attention is paid to them, Jokers have the easiest time leaving the pack. As such, some wolves will deliberately get demoted to Joker so that they might escape the pack to join another or live on their own. - Jethro

Trades Diamonds Raiders
Diamonds are a rank unique to the Sanzin. They are wolves trained to infiltrate other packs and steal from them. Depending on what they are tasked to do, they might steal food, information, or in some cases, even other wolves. Some raids are stealth missions while others are straight attacks. Raids are done either alone, in small groups, or in large raiding parties. They are often the rowdiest members of the pack and have some of the easiest time ranking up with all the trouble they cause other packs. During both times of peace and war, there duties do not change.
Spades Warriors
Spades are the pack's warriors. They defend the pack and its borders. In times of peace, they patrol the border and fight off other predators such as bears and big cats. In war times, they are the vanguard and the first line of attack.
Clubs Hunters
Clubs are the pack's hunters. They provide the pack with its meals and keep track of the herds. If the pack does not have enough food to get through the winter, they are the ones who will suffer for it. The Clubs tend to be more serious than other trades. During times of war, they act as scouts as well as hunters.
Hearts Healers
Hearts are the pack's healers. They treat illnesses and injuries and are some of the most respected members of the pack. They gather their own supplies and is the only trade that actually trains new members of their trade. Hearts are some of the pack's most responsible members and tend to avoid the pack's usual hazing.

Ranking Up
The rankings are always changing in the Sanzin. As easy as it is to fall, it is far harder to rise in the ranks. A wolf rarely remains in a certain rank for long.
The rules for promoting and demoting a wolf are as follows:
- All ranks, with the exception of Jokers, may demote lower ranked wolves
- Only wolves ranked Queen and higher may promote a wolf
- Wolves may only be demoted a maximum of three ranks at a time
- Wolves may only be promoted a maximum of one rank at a time
- Wolves may be promoted only as high as a rank below that of the promoter
- After a wolf is promoted or demoted, their rank cannot change for one week
- Wolves may be promoted or demoted for any reason
- No ceremony or prior authorization from another member of the pack is required
If all those rules are too much to remember, there's always the old fashioned way. One can just kill the one holding the rank desired and take their place. No one will object anyways.

Specialties
Prey Prey unique to the Sanzin territory include bison, pronghorns, ferrets, and snakes among other plains animals. They often have excess meat and will bring the extra to the Three Packs Meeting to trade. Their most common wares are their prey items.
Ocean Items The only pack with access to the ocean, they will often bring fish, seaweed, and sponges along with other ocean items to the Three Packs Meeting. Their pack hunters are taught to fish. They will often eat it in place of other prey. The Sanzin are some of the strongest swimmers because of this. Seeing as they have little use or care for these items, they only gather them in large numbers when the Three Packs Meeting comes up. It is usually up to the lower ranks to do so.
Poison An item they do not bring to trade no matter what. With the large amount of snakes in their territory and the cruel nature of the pack, the Sanzin have learned how to safely identify, find, and capture venomous snakes. They have learned to extract the venom of the snakes though they have no means of storing it as of yet. Instead, when they decide to poison someone, they drip the venom from the captured snake directly onto meat that they will offer to their victim. After much trial and error, they have learned cures for the venom, ways to slow its infection, and the lethal amount. It is used very rarely and only the highest ranked wolves are taught this. It is both their last resort and their ace in the hole. They do not want it known by the other packs.
Events
Chance Games Winter and Summer
The Chance games occur twice a year in the winter and summer for one day. When they occur during those seasons is random. The Games are a wolf's best chance at rising in the ranks. Participation is voluntary, but if there aren't enough participants, than "volunteers" are taken by force. The only caveat is that each wolf must participate in, at least, one Chance Games per year. There are 14 possible games. Four of the possibilities are season specific. There is a total of 12 possible contests per Games. Of the twelve, five are chosen per Games. The five chosen games will not be chosen next time the Games come around. Some wolves use this fact to strategically participate in the Games and avoid the more dangerous ones. The number of possible winners per contest differs depending on the game but winners will always rise in the ranks and losers will always fall.

The Favored
Favored wolves are those that are particularly liked by the Suit but not enough to rank them up. By having the status of Favored, they are protected by the Suit. No one may attack, threaten, or harm a Favored except for other Favored, the Aces, and the Suit. They are guaranteed their meals. Thus no matter their rank, they will not go hungry. Their rank does not change unless they are a Joker. If they are a Joker, they automatically rank up to a Four. The status of Favored may last for any length of time. From as short as an hour or as long as a lifetime as long as the Suit decides they like them.
If the ruling Suit changes, then any wolves previously deemed Favored are no longer Favored. A Suit may have as many or as few Favored as they wish. With some Suits having ten or twelve Favored and others having zero. The status of a Favored is far from concrete. If the Suit forgets about you, you lose the status. If they lose interest, if you upset them, if you annoy them, you lose the status. Thus Favored try to keep themselves close to the Suit but not too close so as to keep their status. Unlike Aces, Favored are quickly forgotten and discarded.

History
Lotusia The Successor: Years 721 - 731
The wolf that slew the Heir's children kept the Heir's promise. The Successor had been a close and trusted companion of the Heir and had been tasked by them to dispose of their children once they passed. The Heir had deemed none of their children as fit to rule and rather than let the pack rot under their rule, they chose someone they trusted to take over. Thus the Successor was tasked with the job. The Successor's reign was one of peace. The Sanzin mostly kept to themselves under their rule, but prospered none the less. It was possibly the last time the pack had any semblance of normalcy. The Successor was taken out by a wolf that would eventually be known as one of the Three Kings.
The Three Kings; Laeroth, Ayen, and Rygo: Years 731 - 749
This set of rulers is referred to collectively as the Three Kings. They had no notable achievements in any of their reigns. The first reigned for 6 years. The second for 5 years and the third for 7 years. While the pack did not grow, it did not diminish either. It was simply stable. It was with the next reign, that of the Poisoner, that the pack started to become distorted.
Akana The Poisoner: Years 749 - 757
The wolf that invented and made the most use of poison. They were somehow able to extract the poison from the venomous snakes in the region and used it regularly to dispose of unfavorable wolves. They began as a strong ruler, but as time went on, they became consumed by madness. They sentenced anyone to death for the smallests things. If a wolf seemed suspicious in anyway, they were removed. The end of the Poisoner's reign was filled with terror. There were rumors that they were actually a former Au'Dar pack member as a cobra was said to follow them around. The cobra was difficult to find and seemed more ghost than real most times. The rumor only ever remained a rumor. The Poisoner was found dead mysteriously one day. Their Aces were no where to be found. From all appearances, the Poisoner died alone without a struggle. The body was tossed aside but some say they saw a cobra coiled over the body as if in mourning that night. The cobra was gone the next day. With the Poisoner's death came the loss of the secret of poisons. The rulers since have developed a far cruder means of collecting poison but it came at the cost of a wolf's life. With the surplus of disposable pawns, such a flaw mattered little.
Varios The Gladiator: Years 757 - 762
With the Poisoner's unexpected death with no one able to claim the kill, a power vacuum was created in the Sanzin. A vicious civil war broke out among the members as each vied to claim the coveted leader position. The one that emerged on top was a brunish-black brute of great stature with a hide marred with scars. Known as the Gladiator, he ran the pack like a Colosseum. Every wolf was expected to fight each other day in and day out. It was thanks to the Gladiator that the Chance Games were established, initially, as a means of entertainment. They later became the rank wars they are now. The ones that came out on top became the elite few. The pack was more cutthroat than ever with even one loss putting the wolf at the bottom of the ladder. The cruelty of the pack bred dissention among its members. The ones that failed to become the elite rallied around a wolf they called The Champion. With the Champion as their leader, they led a coup that brought down the Gladiator and his treasured elites. The Gladiator and his elites were powerful though and they heavily weakened. The most they managed to do was run him and his group out of the pack with heavy losses. The Gladiator swore to return one day and claim his rightful place.
Aemula The Swindler: Years 762 - 764
The Champion now held leadership. It quickly became clear though that they cared for no one but themselves. They left the pack to starve and did nothing to prevent dissention. The pack became a lawless place as each wolf was out for themselves. As long as the Champion was fed, they cared nothing for the state of the pack. The Sanzin went under great decline with them as leader and their title went from the Champion to the Swindler. While they bathed in luxury, the rest of the pack was left to starve. In short time, the Avenger arrived.
Xecour The Avenger: Years 764 - 769
It is said that the Avenger is the Gladiator's son. He certainly had his father's brunish-black coat and chilling eyes, but while the Gladiator was a fight-crazed brute, the Avenger was strong of both mind and body. In the following years, he would stabilize the pack. His cunning far outstripping anything else. In his final year, he began, perhaps the most devious plan of all, the mass pupnapping of the Vertok's pups. He planned to raise them with a heavy hatred of the Vertok. Once they were grown, he would send them as the frontline in a war against the Vertok. The kidnapped pups would of had no qualms about attacking the Vertok while the Vertok would hold back knowing it was their children they were fighting. The Sanzin stole into Vertok territory time after time snatching pups aged anywhere from just born to six months old. The pups were dunked into the river repeatedly to remove any of the Vertok's scent. For younger pups, they were placed with wolves that could feasibly be their parents. Older pups were hidden on the dangerous, rocky coastline where their cries could not be heard, drowned out by the crashing waves. They were often left for hours at a time as long Vertok wolves still prowled the area looking for their pups. Over the course of six months, over 60 pups were kidnapped. Of those numbers, over half died from the rough handling when they were kidnapped or due to the rocky coastline where they were hidden. The Vertok managed to reclaim a third of the pups while the remaining pups were left in the care of Sanzin with their parents unable to prove that the pup was theirs. The Avenger never saw his plan come to frutiation as the following winter, he stepped on a patch of thin ice on the river and fell in, ultimately drowning. The only witness was a lucky Joker who chose to let the Suit drown rather than save him. The Joker dragged the body from the water and claimed the kill as theirs, claiming the Suit position. The Avenger never shared with any wolf his plans thus the reason for the pupnappings has gone unknown since his death. Regardless, the Vertok still hold a deep hatred for the Sanzin for this event.
Sana The Fool: Years 769 - 770
The Joker that became Suit was a fool and that became their title. The Fool ruled with pack with foolishness. Following after the Avenger, a wolf regarded as one of the Sanzin's best leaders, the pack soon grew tired of the Fool. In less than a year, the Fool was offed. Ironically, it was one of their Aces that did the killing tired of serving under an idiot.
Idogras The Ace: Years 770 - 775
The Ace was a strong ruler, at least initially. Soon enough, the Ace feel into the trappings of the rank of Suit. They grew fat and lazy on the luxuries afforded by the rank and lost the fierceness they once had. Fill with nothing but arrogance, they became the same as the Suit they had killed to take the rank. Caring nothing for the pack and everything for themselves, they became a shadow of what they began as. It was only to be expected that they would be removed before long.
